Editor’s Note:
<< Ben Nelson made his name and money in the insurance industry. After graduating from law school, Nelson landed a job as assistant general counsel for Central National Insurance Group of Omaha. In 1975, he became state insurance director before going back to work for Central National Insurance as an executive vice president and eventually president.
In the article below, colleague Rob Kall zeroes in on the latest scandal involving the Democratic party leadership (DNC), without a doubt one of the filthiest cabals of politicians since this benighted republic came into being. His agitation is well-grounded. As Joe Sudbay reported,
“The DNC and Organizing for America (OFA) have been asking supporters to chip in for the fight to pass real health care reform, including a public option. But, who does it look like benefited from those donations, your donations? Ben Nelson, the guy who worked to kill real reform. And he got the money after he killed real reform, almost like it was a pay off. Nelson announced his support for the much-weakened Senate health care bill on December 19, 2009. He cast his vote for final passage on December 24, 2009. The DNC transferred money to the Nebraska party on December 28, 2009. You do the math.”
We have only one plaint: Sudbay places the blame on Nelson and his ilk, which is perfectly correct; Nelson is undiluted scum, an insurance industry prostitute strutting around as a representative of the people. Problem is, Nelson for all his perfidy and corruption didn’t single-handedly sink this so-called healthcare reform, nor, for that matter, its vaunted “public options”, however we define them. The poison pill was put there much earlier, when this criminal cabal (only the GOP leadership matches them in this regard) with Obama, Pelosi and Reid at the head of the parade brushed aside any discussion of a single-payer option. At that point we knew the fix was in. (For a complete rendition of Sudbay’s take go to http://www.americablog.com/2010/01/ben-nelson.html )—P. Greanville, for the editorial team
February 2, 2010 Grit Your Teeth; DNC Funding $460K Ad Campaign for Ben NelsonBy Rob Kall, Editor in Chief/Publisher, OpedNews.com [print_link] Grit your teeth, get ready to heave and lock up your wallet. The DNC is doing something even dumber than you could imagine. IF SENATOR BEN NELSON’S POLITICS makes you want to puke, join the club. The former insurance industry hack turned politician who pimps the insurance industry’s interests made just about all progressives sick, almost apoplectic, with his pandering to insurers and his blocking of the public option. Now, the DNC is funding a nearly $500,000 ad campaign in Nebraska for Ben Nelson. Doesn’t that want to make you contribute to the DNC? Doesn’t that make you feel confident in the Obama administration’s appointment of Time Kaine as the DNC Chairman? No? You mean it makes you want to vomit. What? It confirms your resolve NOT to contribute to a perhaps not misguided, perhaps De-f*cking-ranged DNC that has not only left the reservation, but has left the planet? Oh, you think we need to make scumbags like Nelson feel safe playing in the sausage factory? You think this is part of doing the nasty in DC? We need a name for Democrats who tolerate this kind of sh*t. DLC Dems? Clinton Dems? Obamabots? Rahm Emanuel sh*t-eaters? I’ve been saying that the current state of the Democratic party is due to a failure of leadership at the top– Obama, his administration, Pelosi, Reid, Kaine, Menendez (DSCC.) Obama set the tone with his well-intentioned but failed attempt to mimic Lincoln. Here’s some background info from Huffpo’s Sam Stein on this DNC… what would you call it? Spew? Puke? Heave? Stupidity? The sky’s the limit. On Monday, Joe Sudbay of Americablog reported that the DNC had forked over $459,760.00 to the Nebraska Democratic Committee, which, in turn, used that money to sponsor television ads on Nelson’s behalf. Those ads featured the senator explaining his support for health care legislation in part by noting he had changed the legislation so that insurance coverage would not be “run by the government.” It was a clear slight at the public plan. A spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Jim Manley, told Ben Smith of Politico that the money was not part of the deal to get Nelson’s vote. But the real question was why the DNC would pay for ads that maligned government-run insurance at the same time the party was rallying behind that very proposal. Asked about the expenditure, DNC Press Secretary Hari Sevugan sent over a statement that glossed over the question of how strongly the committee was devoted to the public option in favor of pointing out that Nelson was (then and now) under immense political pressure. It’s time the geniuses at the White House put a true leader, Howard Dean back at the helm of the DNC. That would be one major step forward back from neanderthalism to homo sapiens level functioning.
