Things to consider—

Since early 2011, Obama's been waging proxy war on Syria. Imported death squads masquerade as freedom fighters. The scheme's familiar. It repeats. It reflects US imperialism's dark side. In the 1980s, CIA-recruited mujahideen fighters battled Afghanistan's Soviet occupiers. Ronald Reagan called them "the moral equivalent of our founding fathers." He characterized Contra killers the same way. —Stephen LendmanFor over a century now US ambassadors have acted as fifth columns in the nations they are embedded in, their role chiefly to foster corporate and plutocratic power and coordinate machinations against any truly pro-democratic government.•••••"The dead end identity politics of SF Pride, which sells out a peace hero like Bradley Manning to curry favor with the American ruling class, is what I had in mind. The empire loves your tameness, irrelevance and cowardice, SF Pride. You don’t bother the American ruling class — a five foot two, 105 pound soldier does because he has a conscience and because he didn’t make comfort the guiding principle of his life...." —Randy Shields

The AC-130 Spectre gunship which the Americans are using for special operations in southern Afghanistan was designed for close support of ground forces. Yes, we got the top instruments of crowd control.

Neocon editors who increasingly dominate the New York Times want President Barack Obama to deploy A-10 and AC-130 aircraft for close-combat attacks against Libyan government forces in urban areas.

Rather than give serious thought to peace feelers that have come from members of Col. Muammar Gaddafi’s inner circle, including his son Saif, the Times’ editors — like other key figures in the U.S. mainstream news media — see violent regime change as the only acceptable outcome for Libya. The Man from Hope

A PARTIAL SHUTDOWN of the US federal government was postponed by a deal struck late Friday night between White House and congressional negotiators to resolve a protracted standoff on legislation to finance government operations.

The Obama administration agreed to $2 billion more in social spending cuts in return for an agreement by the Republican House leadership on a stop-gap continuing resolution that will fund the federal government through next Thursday. President Obama, House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid also said they had reached a broader agreement to fund government operations through the end of the fiscal year, September 30, which is to be voted on by both houses of Congress next week.   Continue reading »

Jesse Ventura: We Need an Alternative to the Two-Party System

Jesse

Jesse Ventura became Governor of Minnesota as a candidate of the Reform Party. Since leaving office he has continued to call for opposing the two-party system. This transcript is from an interview he did with Larry King. Read the entire transcript here:

VENTURA: I wrote the book because I was down there and I met the writer Dick Russell a few years ago. And he lives down there part- time, too. And we would get together every Wednesday. And we wrote the book together. And I wrote the book, hopefully, to awaken America, the United States, to what I believe we need a revolution here. Continue reading »

Same votes nationwide will help Dems win in 2012 (but who’s misty eyed about that!)
bydemocratic initiatives

"Bipartisan" misleadership allowed the rotting out of the Supreme Court, and all that that entails.

Voters in Madison, Wisconsin on Tuesday overwhelmingly approved, by an 84 percent majority, a city referendum calling for amending the U.S. Constitution to establish that “only human beings, not corporations, are entitled to constitutional rights.” In Dane County, Wisconsin, which includes the city of Madison, 78 percent voted for a similar county referendum, rejecting the rationale underlying the Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United decision, which allows unlimited, and secret, corporate campaign spending. There may be scumbags in America that match Ted Nugent in sheer odiousness, but none have a chance in hell of surpassing him.

By Media Matters staff | November 10, 2010

Nugent

In a November 9 Washington Times op-ed, Ted Nugent wrote: “Domestically, we have gone through a bloody civil war, a catastrophic dust bowl, a Great Depression, Sept 11, 2001 and survived a number of attempts by the Democratic Party to destroy America.”

Nugent also called for an end to an entitlement spending such as “Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security,” stating: “If we are to save the country for future generations of Americans and ensure they have more opportunity than we do, we must address entitlement spending and address it now. Then kill it all.” Continue reading »
