This phony crisis was precipitated by the city, specifically Mayor Bloomberg; let the world know that what happens now rests squarely on his shoulders.
For obvious reasons, the ruling orders are interested in probing how hard they can push this young movement, and how easy they fold when threatened with more reprisals…And it’s obvious that NYC Mayor Bloomberg, the point man for the ruling class, is implementing the prevailing consensus of this country’s plutocracy—after all, they don’t have many options at this stage, although surely they’re looking for a way to stage provocations to cast the movement in a bad light. Still, with the world watching, and with a movement that comprises so many classes and ages, they can’t unleash full-fledged repression or they will lose any remaining legitimacy even faster, not to mention radicalize those who still believe this system is salvageable.
The request by the authorities for the occupiers of Zuccotti park to evacuate the place so that city workers can clean it is specious, and the authorities know it. They have admitted that much, as Ray Kelly, the city’s police chief has clearly stated that the demonstrators will not be allowed to reenter the park with tents and other camping gear, making it difficult if not impossible for the occupation to continue. As things stand, it’s obvious this is just a scheme to get rid of OccupyWS through “the back door” , and with that, they think, the strongest symbol so far of the spontaneous insurrection sweeping America. —Eds.
