CURRENTLY PLAYING

Since early 2011, Obama's been waging proxy war on Syria. Imported death squads masquerade as freedom fighters. The scheme's familiar. It repeats. It reflects US imperialism's dark side. In the 1980s, CIA-recruited mujahideen fighters battled Afghanistan's Soviet occupiers. Ronald Reagan called them "the moral equivalent of our founding fathers." He characterized Contra killers the same way. —Stephen LendmanFor over a century now US ambassadors have acted as fifth columns in the nations they are embedded in, their role chiefly to foster corporate and plutocratic power and coordinate machinations against any truly pro-democratic government.•••••"The dead end identity politics of SF Pride, which sells out a peace hero like Bradley Manning to curry favor with the American ruling class, is what I had in mind. The empire loves your tameness, irrelevance and cowardice, SF Pride. You don’t bother the American ruling class — a five foot two, 105 pound soldier does because he has a conscience and because he didn’t make comfort the guiding principle of his life...." —Randy Shields

The “Cleaning Confrontation” is unfolding, with unpredictable results for both parties.

NYC’s Mayor Bloomberg
This phony crisis was precipitated by the city, specifically Mayor Bloomberg; let the world know that what happens now rests squarely on his shoulders.

For obvious reasons, the ruling orders are interested in probing how hard they can push this young movement, and how easy they fold when threatened with more reprisals…And it’s obvious that NYC Mayor Bloomberg, the point man for the ruling class, is implementing the prevailing consensus of this country’s plutocracy—after all, they don’t have many options at this stage, although surely they’re looking for a way to stage provocations to cast the movement in a bad light. Still, with the world watching, and with a movement that comprises so many classes and ages, they can’t unleash full-fledged repression or they will lose any remaining legitimacy even faster, not to mention radicalize those who still believe this system is salvageable.

The request by the authorities for the occupiers of Zuccotti park to evacuate the place so that city workers can clean it is specious, and the authorities know it. They have admitted that much, as Ray Kelly, the city’s police chief has clearly stated that the demonstrators will not be allowed to reenter the park with tents and other camping gear, making it difficult if not impossible for the occupation to continue.  As things stand, it’s obvious this is just a scheme to get rid of OccupyWS through “the back door” , and with that, they think, the strongest symbol so far of the spontaneous insurrection sweeping America. —Eds. ROBERT REICH

Reich (center) beaming off in the presence of Obama.
The President’s Jobs Bill doesn’t have a chance in Congress — and the Occupiers on Wall Street and elsewhere can’t become a national movement for a more equitable society – unless more Americans know the truth about the economy.

Here’s a short (2 minute 30 second) effort to rebut the seven biggest whoppers now being told by those who want to take America backwards.
