We're engaged in a protracted mass communications battle, a contest of propagandas, Their object is to prop up the system's legitimacy; ours precisely the opposite. The core of a system's illegitimacy is nothing more nor less than its easily demonstrable Orwellian nature. If it claims to be a democracy it must be a plutocracy; if it proclaims to defend the safety of its population, it actively endangers it; if it struts around loudly shouting its allegiance to freedom and the rule of law, it is in actuality a cynical hidden dictatorship; If it brags about its "free press", then you know for sure that it is an abject, servile tool of the power elites. Of course the most infamous contradiction is that when this hypocritical scum kneel before the altar of peace they are actively engaged in making war. On and on. Always the opposite of what it claims. In America, especially, anyone awake can see that readily. Hollande: Left or faux left?

The morning after election Sunday, French and Greek voters have major issues unresolved. Austerity harmed people in both countries. Technocrats remain in charge. Odds remain long for change.

Europe’s recession is deepening. Every stimulus attempt failed. Budget cutting during crisis conditions makes hard times worse. Throwing out bums for new ones assures similar ones.

European governments fell like dominos. Since crisis conditions began, over a dozen regime changes followed. Thirteen Eurozone ones collapsed, were voted out of power, or were ordered out by banker diktats. Left or right made no difference.

The Dutch government resigned. No confidence votes toppled Romania and Czech Republic leaders. Minority governments lead Sweden and Bulgaria.

An unnamed European diplomat said we’ll “have to get used to new faces and ideas all the time.” Unity, leadership and vision are absent.

THIS WEEK

A version of Edvard Munch’s iconic 1895 painting, The Scream, sold at auction in New York last week for $119.9 million, an all-time art auction record. The bidding took 12 minutes, not counting the cheering when the hammer fell. Cheers for over-the-top indulging? Sometimes you just want to you-know-what.

But sometimes we can’t scream. On Capitol Hill this week, Politico reports, the House Budget Committee will be putting “the final touches” on an appropriations package that denies jobless Americans unemployment benefits “until they spend down their cash savings below $2,000.” Scream at that in the Budget Committee chambers, and you’ll be thrown out on your ear.

Sometimes, on the other hand, we can just be too dumbfounded to scream. A mega millionaire who made his fortune playing private equity games with Mitt Romney at Bain Capital has a new book out. His theme: The more unequal America gets, the better life gets for everybody!

Gretchen Rossi—one of the stars of Bravo’s seminal franchise, Real Housewives of Orange County, is a lucky genetic accident. By that I mean she’s outside the norm. In the bell-shaped distribution she’s one of those creatures sitting pretty on one of the extremes—the extremely fortunate one—the coordinates inhabited by people blessed with perfect body, features and voice, the kind that answers a teenager’s wet prayers. Rossi’s looks are the prime if not sole reason why Bravo picked her to impersonate a “real housewife”—a suitably Orwellian term for a woman who’s neither a housewife nor very real.
