The author’s “Progressive case against Obama” stirred strong reactions. He takes on his critics
BY MATT STOLLER

The deranged legions of the right even portray Obama as a communist. How ludicrous can it get for a man who has increasing trouble hiding his natural allegiance to Wall Street?

The 2012 election is next Tuesday. We face a choice between Barack Obama, a candidate whose Presidency we can examine and evaluate, and Mitt Romney, who is a dangerous cipher. My argument – made last week in “Progressive Case Against Obama“, is that progressives should evaluate these risks honestly, with a clear-headed analysis of Obama’s track record. This piece sparked a massive debate that has had both Obama loyalists and Republicans resort to outlandish name-calling, evidently as a result of their unwillingness or inability to address the issues raised. THE WORLD UPSIDE DOWN. It’s “The Chinese Professor” scare again. Or is he a party commissar?

The following piece of putrid crap is currently circulating on our small screens. This is but one of the latest efforts from the same filthy crowd that has been trying to sell us the “shrink the government” mantra for more than 70 years now, meaning of course cut all social services to the people, and that’s just counting the postwar period.  A couple of comments on YouTube actually sum up quite well the proper reaction to this cybernetic excrement, which does the rounds only because the grotesque and utterly criminal usurpers of power in this nation have the means to produce disinformation 24/7, while the corporate media, in their pockets, can’t be bothered to set matters right.  Thus the Big Lie sails practically unchecked in an ocean of ignorance and manufactured indifference.—PG

Each day, the amount of extra energy accumulating via the heating of the earth is the equivalent of 400,000 Hiroshima atomic bombs. Each day!”

Yes, global warming systemically caused Hurricane Sandy — and the Midwest droughts and the fires in Colorado and Texas, as well as other extreme weather disasters around the world. Let’s say it out loud, it was causation, systemic causation. Systemic causation is familiar. Smoking is a systemic cause of lung cancer. HIV is a systemic cause of AIDS. Working in coal mines is a systemic cause of black lung disease. Continue reading »

Momentarily the odds favor Obama, but is that something to celebrate? Not really, says the author.

Voting for Obama or Romney is like choosing between death by hanging or firing squad. Either way you’re dead. The same goes for choosing Republicans or Democrats. Each party replicates the other. On issues mattering most, not a dime’s worth of difference separates them.

They’re pro-corporate, pro-war, pro-Israel, anti-populist, anti-civil and human rights, and anti all values real democratic societies cherish.

Post-November 6, nothing will change. Duopoly power assures harsher times ahead. Expect direct and proxy imperial wars to continue. New ones will be launched. War on terror/existential threat deception will justify them.  Waging war on freedom rages domestically. Hypocrisy, not democracy, is policy. Dissent is endangered. Big Brother spying is endemic. Democratic values are fast eroding en route to disappearing altogether. Continue reading »
