ARROGANCE AND INTELLECTUAL LAZINESS COMBINE TO MAKE THIS PRACTICE ALL THE MORE DIFFICULT TO ERADICATE. Far too many times, as is seen across the liberal TV landscape, criticism of the Republicans and their egregious crimes and excesses is not balanced by any criticism of the Democrats’ numerous crimes, thereby blocking the public’s understanding of the broader, systemic nature of the problem, and implicitly endorsing the Dems, all of which perpetuates the Duopoly. Given the heinous imperial crimes committed by the Democrats, especially under Obama’s watch, partisanship of this kind is a form of gross dishonesty and falsification of truth. Maher, in his more recent rants against Trump has carefully avoided any mention of Clinton & Co’s underhanded—and proven—obliteration of Sanders, something that deserved inclusion in any honest discussion of the political crisis we face. Nor has he, along with all the other Democrat celebrities, ever stated that the origins of the wars in the Middle East and elsewhere and all the squalid psychotic propaganda making them possible is a completely bipartisan project. This is outrageous, but it is also the normalized reality of US society and its corrupt politics. A further dimension of confusion—permitting the insertion of lies—is the fact that many public figures, including Maher, or presstitutes, do say things from time to time that are true and irrefutable, and which buttress their credibility. Observe for example Maher’s critique of Pentagon bloat, militarism, and Congressional corruption, of the systemic kind, seen in his exchange with venomous Neocon Bill Krystol (Appendix).
I am not saying here that these people are always consciously dishing half-truths in order to ambush people with greater lies, although that is established practice among Big Media “journalists”, but that this is something common in our political landscape, and perhaps inevitable as most human beings are in constant flux and liable to carry partial knowledge and stunted consciousness about most social topics. The upshot is that we end up in most cases with shoddy analysis, very raw decontextualized “facts”, which, against a tapestry of massive ignorance cannot begin (and are usually not designed) to dissolve the biggest foundational deceptions. In this manufactured vacuum of truth and cogency, propaganda enters largely unopposed.—PG

Sadly, more and more these days the majority of middle class, university educated Americans rely heavily on the likes of Bill Maher, Stephen Colbert and John Stewart [and lately John Oliver] for their world view. Cue the laugh tracks…
This spat which took place on Bill Maher’s recent talk show exposes what happens when an above average IQ guest is allowed to challenge the elite comedian class on America’s TV screens.
Watch as canny veteran journalist Glenn Greenwald makes short work of the host, exposing Maher’s own 4th grade view of Middle East politics and US foreign policy – in front of Maher’s own drooling audience…
