Blitz Dispatch from Deena Stryker
A distinct (albeit unintended) benefit of Trump’s presidency is that the people get to see more and more of the system’s Mr Hyde without its usual masks.
Washington frets and fumes over every aspect of the up-coming Trump presidency, yet fails to acknowledge its true import: every flaw of neo-liberalism that has been more or less successfully hidden from public view will be out in the open starting next Friday.
Has the world been ruled by corporations acting behind the scenes ever since corporations were invented? Corporate leaders will now populate the Presidential Cabinet. Have laws routinely been drawn up by lobbyists rather than legislators, who are paid not to interfere? Henceforth lobbyists will be on the dole, their services no longer needed. Have lightly armed police more or less kept the peace across an industrious and virtuous land? They will be armed for the battlefield, as the unemployed team up with the illiterate in search of a past that never was.
Has the US been the country most alert to so-called ‘conflicts of interest’? The incoming President’s vast holding are so intertwined that he is literally unable to put them into a blind trust. His two adult sons, Donald and Eric, will act as joint CEO’s of the multi-million dollar international business empire, while — get this — never being more than a Skype ‘Come-to-Meeting’ away, no matter who is walking in and out of the Oval Office at any given time.
In case they miss a crucial moment, Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, will be a permanent fixture in the White House as ‘pro bono ‘Special Advisor to the President’. During Melania Trump’s absence in New York until the end of son Barron’s school year, daughter Ivanka, head of a vast fashion conglomerate, will fill the role of ‘First Daughter’.
During a long-awaited first press conference as president-elect, Donald Trump occupied as much space as an entire room of journalists interacting with the fourth estate like a lion tamer cracking his whip. He would not take questions from the CNN correspondent, calling his organization a distributor of “Fake News”, which is absolutely correct. Too bad he did not have the gumption to extend the compliment to the rest of the press organizations represented in that room, as they are ALL first and foremost engines of propaganda for the foulest wing of the Deep State, at present battling it out with Trump. (The press got back at him the very next day, gleefully publishing and commenting salacious revelations by an untraceable former British spy, depicting Trump doing what he probably does everywhere — but this time in Moscow where Putin’s former shop, the FSB, could supposedly record his antics.)
While this momentous change is taking place, neither the press nor America’s rulers appear concerned that Saudi Arabia is starving Iran’s ally Yemen, the poorest country in the Middle East, using US weapons; that Congo’s illegal gold mines flourish — or that many other of the world’s other horrors are traceable to American drive, malignant interference, and ingenuity. The airwaves vibrate to the tune of Auld Lang Syne as our first Black President waltzes slowly (very slowly!) out of a house built by slaves, as a revered Black freedom fighter is invited to condemn Russia, about which he knows only what he is told: that Vladimir Putin is a ‘revanchist’ (a word hitherto applied only to Hitler’s Germany) for wanting to maintain mutually advantageous relations with its Slavic neighbor, Ukraine, which the US is preventing by installing and supporting a fascist-riddled government. Instead of reminding viewers about that, news and talk show journalists line up to condemn Russia’s ‘interference’ in America’s sacrosanct elections.
Hillary Clinton planned to bring Russia to heel by waging “survivable tactical nuclear war”, as irresponsible and deranged a concept as any our rulers have entertained (and still do: it’s the current plan). Under Donald Trump, World War III will be avoided, we hope, but capitalism will no longer even pretend to serve the many, as it funds the 0.000001%’s new home in space, leaving the 99.9999% behind to survive on a dying planet.

CUBA: Diary of a Revolution, Inside the Cuban Revolution with Fidel, Raul, Che, and Celia Sanchez
America Revealed to a Honey-Colored World
A Taoist Politics: The Case For Sacredness
She began her journalistic career at the French News Agency in Rome, spent two years in Cuba finding out whether the Barbados were Communists before they made the revolution (‘Cuba 1964: When the Revolution was Young’). After spending half a decade in Eastern Europe, and a decade in the U.S., studying Global Survival and writing speeches in the Carter State Department, she wrote the only book that foresaw the fall of the Berlin Wall AND the dissolution of the Soviet Union (“Une autre Europe, un autre Monde’). Her memoir, ‘Lunch with Fellini, Dinner with Fidel’, tells it all. ‘A Taoist Politics: The Case for Sacredness’, which examines the similarities between ancient wisdom and modern science and what this implies for political activism; and ‘America Revealed to a Honey-Colored World” is a pamphlet about how the U.S. came down from the City on a Hill’.
