About the Author
Glenn Edward Greenwald is an American journalist and author, best known for his role in a series of reports published by The Guardian newspaper beginning in June 2013, detailing the United States and British global surveillance programs, and based on classified documents disclosed by Edward Snowden. Greenwald and the team he worked with won both a George Polk Award and a Pulitzer Prize for those reports. He has written several best-selling books, including No Place to Hide.

GLENN GREENWALD—In a column the year before, NYTimes’ N. Kristof detailed the barbarism and misleading claims that chickens are “humanely raised” at Perdue Farms — the company USDA Secretary Perdue helped to expand — and concluded: “Torture a single chicken and you risk arrest. Abuse hundreds of thousands of chickens for their entire lives? That’s agribusiness.”

Think!

^0Americans are the most over-entertained, uninformed people on the planet.^3000

Ignorant about domestic and geopolitical issues mattering most.^3000

The most important act anyone can do is stop using all mainstream media.^3000

No exceptions whatsoever. It’s brainwash propaganda. ^3000

Toxic sludge for the mind.^3000

Voices like this are NEVER heard on the mainstream media.^3000

The "1%" is the global plutocracy, the billionaires.^3000

A sociopathic, puny segment of humanity.^3000

These people pretend to honor and defend democracy.^3000

But are its murderers and undertakers. ^3000

Gross injustice, war, grotesque inequality is their handiwork. ^3000

And the murder of the planet^3000

Just 8 billionaires own as much wealth as HALF of all humanity.^3000

That's 8 guys are richer than 4 billion people.^3000

The corporate media is their main line of defense.^3000

That's why the best way to break their hold on us...^3000

Is to break their media.^3000

The corporate chokehold on political information is killing us.^3000

Save humanity, the planet and its innocent creatures.^3000

Increase public distrust in the mainstream media.^3000

Defeat their power to mislead.^3000

They lie 24/7. They sell you war. Injustice. Death. Confusion.^3000

And they never stop.^3000

Some more obviously than others, but they all lie. ^3000

So trust no one on the Big Media.^3000

And beware of "entertainment shows". ^3000

Most also carry highly toxic imperialist propaganda.^3000

Like the fungal NCIS series. Or "24", glorifying DHS. ^3000

The police state.^3000

Or CBS Madam Secretary. ^3000

A ridiculous show, like The West Wing. ^3000

Telling us the US government is good.^3000

That the president is good...that its cabinet is good.^3000

That the US establishment—which they represent...^3000

has noble aims. Rubbish!^3000

Get the healing truth from citizens' media.^3000

Like The Greanville Post and similar free voices. ^3000

Do your part to break the power of the mainstream media.^3000

Defeat the presstitutes. The media felons.^3000

Become a soldier in the battle of communications. ^3000

Which we must win.^3000

3 thoughts on “Glenn Greenwald takes on the barbarism of factory farms

  1. Glenn Greenwald ‘sure do love them crush videos’…. He sided with the Supreme Court to allow for the sale of crush videos, where tiny kittens are stomped to death by a stiletto healed leg…. as a sexual fetish.

Glen Greenwald consistently sides with the judeo.christian dominionist view. He may be against factory farms, but he is not against slaughter, not if he considers crush videos an expression of freedom of speech. The emphasis on factory farms rather than on slaughter, no matter how deftly performed, servers only to perpetuate the right to slaughter with moral impunity…. a right so cherished by the dominion religious tradition:

Genesis 9:1-3 “The fear and dread of you shall rest on every animal of the earth, and on every bird of the air, on everything that creeps on the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; into your hand they are delivered. Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you; and just as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.”

The odds that the very privileged Glenn Greenwald is a vegan are slim to none. At the apex of the dominion pecking order only the finest steaks will do, steaks from grazing cattle, slaughtered with proficiency in his native Argentina, a land of gauchos & ranches.

The reality of targeting factory farms is deceptive, as it all too often increases the sale of meat. Case in point…. when veal calves were given a bit more space to live out their six months of life, the public perception changed and once declining veal sales increased by 45%”

Waitrose reported a 45 percent increase in veal sales. Responding in a press release, none other than Compassion in World Farming, the UK’s largest farm animal welfare organization, “welcomes the recent uplift in sales of British veal seen by our Compassionate Supermarket of the Year, Waitrose.” http://www.satyamag.com/oct06/edit.html

I wonder how Glenn Greenwald likes his veal?

  2. The brouhaha about factory farms is intended to distract and misguide from the real issue at hand: all slaughter, all violence to animals is exceptional cruelty. The words of genesis:

Genesis 9:1-3 “The fear and dread of you shall rest on every animal of the earth, and on every bird of the air, on everything that creeps on the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; into your hand they are delivered. Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you; and just as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.”

set into motion the path for every manner of violence to animals, including, but not limited to factory farms. It is the act of slaughter, no matter how swift and clean that is at issue. So long as slaughter remains a sacred right of the judeo.christian tradition animal lives will not have intrinsic value, but will be measured by how they may be used by man….

In genesis Noah is the first owner of a factory farm. He brings breeding pairs of all ‘clean’ animals on board his floating factory farm, not to save their lives, but to use them as food for future generations.

While factory farms have evolved to the highest level of sadism and brutality, it is the root that is rotten to the core. While is is possible to apply small gestures to mitigate the savagery of factory farms, this does little to help animal lives in the long run. Studies have shown that when these tiny cosmetic measures are applied the sale of meat goes up.

After applying menial gestures of compassion to veal calves awaiting a render-vous with a trattoria, the sale of veal soared:

Waitrose reported a 45 percent increase in veal sales. Responding in a press release, none other than Compassion in World Farming, the UK’s largest farm animal welfare organization, “welcomes the recent uplift in sales of British veal seen by our Compassionate Supermarket of the Year, Waitrose.” http://www.satyamag.com/oct06/edit.html

If you are seriously concerned about the atrocities of factory farms, there is a more benevolent ethic found in India, AHIMSA: non-violence to any living being. The Jain community of India has lived a cruelty free life style for centuries, guided by a belief in reverence for all of life: human and animal.
There are no factory farms in Jain communities. There are no slaughter houses in Jain communities.

All life is sacred and everyone has a right to live fearlessly to their maximum potential. Living beings do not have any fear from those who have taken the vow of ahimsa.”…

With ahimsa, it is not possible to justify the slaughter and exploitation of animals. The result is progress for animals that is unimaginable in judeo.christian nations. For example in India it is against the law to import, produce or sell foie gras in any state of India a nation of 1.2 billion people.
In judeo.christian nations foie gras is a thriving business… not banned in any states, though there was a brief ban in chicago, which was rescinded.

Factory farms are part and parcel of the dominion covenant, along with all the other horrific violence that regularly confronts animals under the mislabeled guise of human supremacy. Dominion cannot be fixed, so long as slaughter is the baseline for animal compassion. To end factory farms and all the other justifiable violence of dominion turn away from dominion and the religions (judaism, christianity & islam) that speak the oldest form of hate speech: human dominion over animalkind.
