On Tuesday, the right-wing National Constitution Center (NCC) awarded him its annual Liberty Medal. Its trustees include GHW and Jeb Bush, Bill Clinton and billionaire Richard DeVos. Doug DeVos chairs its executive committee. Joe Biden serves as chairman.
NCC claims it’s the only organization in America established by Congress “to disseminate information about the United States Constitution” - its principles long ago abandoned by neocon/neoliberal administrations and lawmakers.
Addressing NCC members at the award ceremony, McCain turned truth on its head like he always does, blustering he “believe(s) in our country and in our country’s indispensability to international peace and stability and to the progress of humanity.”
Fact: America is permanently at war, currently in multiple theaters, new targeted countries likely to be attacked, waging aggression to prevent democracy, not support it, seeking dominance over planet earth, its resources and populations, carving up whole continents for power and profit - deploring peace, stability, equity and justice.
McCain calling America a “daring, beautiful, bountiful, brave, magnificent country” constitutes a deplorable perversion of truth - a nation more responsible for mass slaughter and destruction than any others, flagrantly violating rule of law principles, exploiting its own people, serving its privileged class exclusively.
McCain: “We are living in the land of the free, the land where anything is possible, the land of the immigrant’s dream, the land with the storied past forgotten in the rush to the imagined future, the land that repairs and reinvents itself, the land where a person can escape the consequences of a self-centered youth and know the satisfaction of sacrificing for an ideal, the land where you can go from aimless rebellion to a noble cause, and from the bottom of your class to your party’s nomination for president.
“We are blessed, and we have been a blessing to humanity in turn. The international order we helped build from the ashes of world war, and that we defend to this day, has liberated more people from tyranny and poverty than ever before in history.
False on all counts with one exception!! In his 1958 Naval Academy class, he was near dead last - 894th out of 899 midshipmen. The only thing America excels in liberating is millions of people from their lives. Its “ideals” and patriotic extremism may destroy us. The so-called “indispensable nation” fosters “tyranny and injustice,” not the other way around, as McCain claimed.
It doesn’t make “dreams…achievable.” It destroys them for most Americans, impoverishing millions, transferring wealth to monied interests.
