I had the pleasure to talk with David William Pear on the air today. At 74 years of age, he is an anti-imperial dynamo, waging the good fight, by writing, reporting and protesting, while traveling to countries considered vile by Euranglolanders’ owners.

David’s diverse travels and experiences makes for a great radio guest. We decided to focus on the Korean Peninsula today, since Western propaganda is marching in lockstep about the “evil North” (DPRK) and its defiant and successful leader, Kim Jong-Un. The situation there is extremely dangerous for the whole world right now, so our talk is very timely and essential listening.

I promised to post David’s three recent articles on Korea,

I Ain’t Gonna Die For Korea (https://www.opednews.com/articles/I-Ain-t-Gonna-Die-for-Kor-by-David-William-Pear-Anti-war_Korea_Korean-Unification_Korean-War-171106-604.html).

North Korea is not a Threat (https://www.opednews.com/articles/North-Korea-is-Not-a-Threa-by-David-William-Pear-Bush_Iran_Iraq_Korean-Unification-171202-985.html).

US Humiliation of South Korea (https://www.greanvillepost.com/2018/01/14/us-humiliation-of-south-korea/).

In addition to writing for Oped-News and The Greanville Post above, David has also written for and highly recommends The Real News (http://therealnews.com/t2/), Truthout (http://www.truth-out.org/) and Consortium News(https://consortiumnews.com/).

Enjoy the show!

“US CIA Director Mike Pompeo broached the possibility of a preemptive strike on North Korea. Two days later, General Robert Neller, the head of the US Marine Corps, publicly discussed the possibility of a ground invasion of the impoverished country, declaring that such a war ‘will be a very, very kinetic, physical, violent fight.'”

Which country, I ask, is the most aggressive and terroristic country on earth? I’ll give you a hint – it’s not actually North Korea.

I’m currently reading Daniel Ellsberg’s book “The Doomsday Machine” about how close we came to nuclear war and how easy it would be to cause it now. I haven’t felt this uneasy about the future in my entire life.

“The event’s official summary contrasts the utopian vision promoted at the turn of the century, based on the belief that “greater economic interdependence among countries, buttressed by liberal democratic institutions, would ensure peace and stability well into the new century,” with the “changed” reality that “geostrategic fissures have re-emerged on multiple fronts with wide-ranging political, economic and social consequences.””

The ruling elites never believed their for-media consumption rhetoric. They knew that ‘geo-strategic fissures’ would emerge; many they helped plan.

The publicly available dialogue, and behind the scenes discussions, at such quasi-official ruling class conclaves as the World Economic Forum at Davos, the Bilderberger meetings, the Bohemian Club, the Council of Foreign Relations, the G-7, G-8 and G-20, and the like reflect the disquiet that is starting to grow among the Capitalist elites. These meetings, despite the increasing presence of China and other non-western leaders, are primarily composed of the Western capitalist elite, and by that very fact do not accurately reflect the views of other elite groups, who have just arrived at the feast in large numbers recent years.

It is a function of the fact that many of these people are quite intelligent and well-educated, despite their general absence of any sort of moral scruples, that the enormity of the problems facing humankind are finally impinging on their smug and self-satisfied world. Many natural and social scientists have become increasingly alarmed by the numerous unfavorable developments in human society and its interaction with the Earth, our one and only home. The warnings these scholars have been publishing, with increasing frequency and intensity, over the past three or four decades, have ultimately penetrated through to the more intelligent denizens of the oak-paneled boardrooms and luxurious galas.

Humanity in general is in big trouble. The elites will be able to use their wealth to sidestep some of the horrific situations that could easily engulf the rest of us, for awhile anyways. But in the not-too-distant future there will be no escape if present trends of destruction of this planet continue. The rich bear by far the greatest responsibility for this, they could have accepted lower profit rates and given the mass of the population room to live decently. They could have begun the transformation of economic activities to a more environmentally sound basis decades ago, when their own research departments began warning of the dangers of global warming, biodiversity destruction, and other environmental crises. In the main, no positive actions were undertaken by the elites, they cynically manipulated the levers of power to enrich themselves with no regard to the inevitable consequences. Now there is, understandably, some pessimism about the future at their lavish meetings, a bit of worry expressed over the caviar. It is decades late and they will harvest the whirlwind, unfortunately we will also suffer and even more than this collection of greedy cretins and soul-less monsters.

Good point! On another different but I feel related one: Last night on BBC radio I listened to someone called A L Kennedy: saying that human and empathetic movies about people made by Hollywood were stopped in the 1950s by the McCarthy movement who thought they were too leftist: instead Hollywood for this and commercial motives concentrated on spectacle: leading to a more recent state of affairs which she described as “films made for psychopaths”: all about action and not emotion; bullets and bodycounts not ideas; in which “the little people” are seen as expendable and only fit to be the victims of serial killers and disasters; all this bleeds over into “reality TV” and other forms of shallow sensationalism: anyway, it’s like what Robert Hare was telling us for years: the world is run by psychopaths. Oh and she said Hollywood attracted psychopaths because of the opportunities for self-aggrandizement- and influence.
