‘Peace Through Strength’ is a Racket

SHELDON RICHMAN—It takes only a few minutes to see that the PTSD is a racket intended (by some of its advocates at least) to gull the unsuspecting populace into supporting whatever the war party and the Pentagon want. North Korea – an Agent of Peace ?

PETER KOENIG—Could this be an eye-opener for the world, showing how fake the entire UN-operation has become, how subservient to the paymaster they have become? Could this be a signal for China and Russia that their non-veto, their submission to the bully, for whatever strategic reason they may have had – was a mistake? – Or would they simply claim credit for what is happening – that threats and sanctions do work?

U.S. Again Supports Al Qaeda in Syria

ERIC ZUESSE—Trump is continuing Obama’s war against Russia and its allies. This is not what he had promised to do when he was running for the Presidency against Hillary Clinton, who openly promised to escalate Obama’s war. Apparently, America’s ‘democracy’ offered its voters a choice between two lying extreme neoconservatives, but Trump turned out to be the better liar — even if not nearly as good a one as Obama had been.

US Humiliation of South Korea

DAVID W. PEAR—Peace is not anything that Washington’s plutocratic interests want to hear, although the South Korean people like it and elected Moon president by a wide margin.  The US wants to keep tensions high, keep the American people frightened of a North Korean boogeyman, keep large numbers of US troops in South Korea, install multi-billion dollar THAADS, and keep Korea divided.  Even if they start a nuclear war.

Inter-Korean Talks

STEPHEN LENDMAN—Its nuclear weapons deterrent was developed because Washington can’t be trusted. Its hostility toward the DPRK risks US aggression on the country. North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs are solely for defense, not offense. Responsibility for peninsula tensions lies in Washington, not Pyongyang.
