ANDRE DAMON—In March Glenn Hubbard, the former Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers, published an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal calling for slashing Social Security and Medicare to fund a massive surge in military spending, declaring, “NATO Needs More Guns and Less Butter.” Hubbard, a Republican, praised the conclusions of Obama’s 2010 deficit reduction committee and called for the full implementation of its demands. Hubbard echoed the themes of a 2013 paper by Anthony Cordesman of Washington think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), which stated: “The US does not face any foreign threat as serious as its failure to come to grips with … the rise in the cost of federal entitlement spending.”
But while there is allegedly no money to pay retirees their retirement benefits, there is no limit to what can be handed out to defense contractors to fund the US conflicts with Russia and China.

The assassination of Daria Dugina and the US-NATO war in Ukraine
13 minutes readJOSEPH SCALICE—Both the evidence of history and the logic of contemporary developments lead to the inescapable conclusion that the assassination of Dugina was a political crime, bearing the fingerprints of Washington, calculated to provoke a wider war. The involvement of Washington in such a scenario is not only plausible; it is the political default hypothesis, that which must be assumed to be true unless otherwise proven false. The entire history of US imperialism is one of assassinations and wars instigated by the US intelligence agencies.

PEPE ESCOBAR—It’s fine and dandy that the Russian Ministry of Defense is about to start the production of the hypersonic Mr. Zircon as it continues to churn out plenty of Mr. Khinzals. Or that three Mig-31 supersonic interceptors have been deployed to Kaliningrad equipped with Khinzals and placed on combat duty 24/7.
The problem is the rules have changed – and the SBU/NATO combo, facing an indescribable debacle in Donbass, is upping the sabotage, counter-intel and counter-diversionary dial.
They started by shelling Russian territory; spread out around Donbass – as in the attempt to kill the mayor of Mariupol, Konstantin Ivachtchenko; even launched drones against the HQ of the Black Sea Fleet in Sebastopol; and now – with the Darya Dugina tragedy – are on the gates of Moscow.

18 minutes readERIC ZUESSE—Pakistan’s Prime Minister until he was removed in a U.S.-demanded coup in April of this year was Imran Khan. He had been trying to separate Pakistan from the U.S. regime, which long has controlled it. Despite Pakistan’s aristocracy owning the nation’s newsmedia, he retained extraordinary popularity and admiration amongst Pakistan’s public; and, so, he has been using every means at his disposal to try to regain control of Pakistan’s Government, in order to become enabled to complete the job that he had begun, to free his nation from the yoke of America’s billionaires and their agents, including not only of America’s Government but of Pakistan’s own billionaires. Pakistan is a vassal-nation in the American empire, and Imran Khan is determined finally to free his people from that foreign dictatorship
