Things to consider—

Since early 2011, Obama's been waging proxy war on Syria. Imported death squads masquerade as freedom fighters. The scheme's familiar. It repeats. It reflects US imperialism's dark side. In the 1980s, CIA-recruited mujahideen fighters battled Afghanistan's Soviet occupiers. Ronald Reagan called them "the moral equivalent of our founding fathers." He characterized Contra killers the same way. —Stephen LendmanFor over a century now US ambassadors have acted as fifth columns in the nations they are embedded in, their role chiefly to foster corporate and plutocratic power and coordinate machinations against any truly pro-democratic government.•••••"The dead end identity politics of SF Pride, which sells out a peace hero like Bradley Manning to curry favor with the American ruling class, is what I had in mind. The empire loves your tameness, irrelevance and cowardice, SF Pride. You don’t bother the American ruling class — a five foot two, 105 pound soldier does because he has a conscience and because he didn’t make comfort the guiding principle of his life...." —Randy Shields

In September 2006, four original BRIC nations met in New York. On May 16, 2008, Yekaterinburg, Russia hosted a full-scale diplomatic meeting. In June 2009, Brazil, Russia, India and China again met in Yekaterinburg. Early steps were taken to end dollar supremacy. Eventual plans may replace it with a global currency or basket of major ones. Our imperial elites (and their innumerable little yapping media sycophants on both sides of the political fence) simply cannot bear to have American power and domination resisted in any way, at any time, for any reason, anywhere, by anyone. It offends their imperial dignity.

It is apparent that the nation of Ecuador will now be in the frame for what American foreign policy elites like to call, in their dainty and delicate language, “the path of action.” Ecuador granted political asylum to Julian Assange on Thursday for one reason only: the very real possibility that he would be “rendered” to the United States for condign punishment, including the possibility of execution.

None of the freedom-loving democracies involved in the negotiations over his fate — Britain, Sweden, and the United States — could guarantee that this would not happen … even though Assange has not been charged with any crime under U.S. law. [And even though the sexual misconduct allegations he faces in Sweden would not be crimes under U.S. or UK law.] Under these circumstances — and after a sudden, blustering threat from Britain to violate the Ecuadorean embassy and seize Assange anyway — the government of Ecuador felt it had no choice but to grant his asylum request. Ecuador’s Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño speaks during a press conference in Quito, Ecuador, Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012. Patiño told that Ecuador received a written threat Wednesday from Britain that “it could assault our embassy” if WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was not handed over.

Editor’s Note: We perfectly understand our colleague’s doubts and reservations regarding Julian Assange’s dealings with major Western media—all tainted and complicit in imperial crimes by definition. However, in his defense, we think that he thought his information, even if heavily redacted, was going to prove an embarrasment to the empire and its chief criminals—and it did. Otherwise, as it happens with so much radical communication that never reaches the “validation” of mass distribution via the mainstream (corporate) media structure, much of his revelations would have remained an incipient phenomenon, at best.—P. Greanville

For around two months, Julian Assange has been holed up in Ecuador’s London embassy after requesting political asylum.  Sweden wants him extradited on spurious charges. They include unlawful coercion, sexual molestation and rape.  Allegedly it’s for having nonconsensual condomless sex. A honey trap snared him.

Sex charges are bogus. Sweden represents Washington’s interests. Obama officials wants him extradited to stand trial for whistleblowing. They want him put away and silenced. Sweden’s playing willing co-conspirator. So is Britain. Continue reading »
