Things to consider—

Since early 2011, Obama's been waging proxy war on Syria. Imported death squads masquerade as freedom fighters. The scheme's familiar. It repeats. It reflects US imperialism's dark side. In the 1980s, CIA-recruited mujahideen fighters battled Afghanistan's Soviet occupiers. Ronald Reagan called them "the moral equivalent of our founding fathers." He characterized Contra killers the same way. —Stephen LendmanFor over a century now US ambassadors have acted as fifth columns in the nations they are embedded in, their role chiefly to foster corporate and plutocratic power and coordinate machinations against any truly pro-democratic government.•••••"The dead end identity politics of SF Pride, which sells out a peace hero like Bradley Manning to curry favor with the American ruling class, is what I had in mind. The empire loves your tameness, irrelevance and cowardice, SF Pride. You don’t bother the American ruling class — a five foot two, 105 pound soldier does because he has a conscience and because he didn’t make comfort the guiding principle of his life...." —Randy Shields

The controversies over the IRS and especially the AP phone records appear to have long-lasting effects

Due to the controversies over the IRS and (especially) the DOJ’s attack on AP’s news gathering process, media outlets have suddenly decided that President Obama has a very poor record on civil liberties, transparency, press freedoms, and a whole variety of other issues on which he based his first campaign. The first two paragraphs of this Washington Post article from yesterday, expressed in tones of recent epiphany, made me laugh audibly:

“President Obama, a former constitutional law lecturer who came to office pledging renewed respect for civil liberties, is today running an administration at odds with his résumé and preelection promises.

“The Justice Department’s collection of journalists’ phone records and the Internal Revenue Service’s targeting of conservative groups have challenged Obama’s credibility as a champion of civil liberties – and as a president who would heal the country from damage done by his predecessor.” Continue reading »

Priggish, obscurantist parties like the Republican, with an unapologetic mean-spirited platform of reactionism, can only survive in nations where politics is hopelessly Orwellian.

Dolan, stirring the pot with more calls for medievalism.

For years progressives in the United States have been stating the Republicans and their platform simply don’t change over time.  That back to the time of Reagan and in certain respects back to Hoover and even before him to McKinley, the GOP has been the party of the rich and the Corporate Power.  That since Reagan, their platform, dressed up to be sure, has been focused on tax cuts for the rich, the destruction of the pitiful “safety net” that the US has for its poor, the turning back of the clock on Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, the repeal of environmental, labor, financial markets and workplace regulation, in more recent times joined by a heavy emphasis on using the government to enforce particular religion-based positions on such matters as abortion rights, who can marry whom, the uses of stem-cell research. And so and so forth. Continue reading »

Rocky Anderson Enters the Fray—but  the question remains: can ANY Democrat be trusted?
by STEVEN HIGGS

Americans who feel betrayed by timid, capitulatory leadership from Democrats like President Barack Obama now have a candidate to consider at the presidential level. On Dec. 12, 2011, former Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson announced his candidacy on the Justice Party ticket and the next day laid out a cogent progressive agenda on Democracy Now!

“Although hailing from a solidly red state, Anderson has been known as one of the most progressive mayors of any major U.S. city in recent years,” host Amy Goodman said in her introduction to the report. “During his two mayoral terms from 2000 to 2008, Anderson was an outspoken champion of LGBT rights, environmental sustainability and the antiwar movement in opposition to the Iraq War.” Continue reading »

I want to congratulate the Gang of Six for coming up with a plan I think is balanced … I think we’re in same playing field.” ~~~ President Barack Obama

Oh Brave New World
Brave New World ~~~ Aldous Huxley.

Many people think it's the criminal Republicans who are leading the charge on the "deficit ceiling" heist, but in reality it's Barack Obama.

By Ernest Stewart , Issues & Alibis
Well, apparently Obamahood is standing by to sign his name on a Bill that will all but destroy Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. This new balanced budget amendment will balance itself on the backs of the poor, the hungry, the sick, the elderly, and the working class — while giving the rich, steady… wait for it… wait for it… another f*cking tax break!

Yes, the so-called “Gang of Six” is made up of both fascist Demoncrats and Rethuglicans, and they have a plan that screws the bottom half — while making the insanely-rich even richer. Is anyone really surprised by this? I’m not surprised; but I am madder than hell, how about you?

The two-party system: Another citizen calls it quits.
By James Clay Fuller

The need to move past existing parties is now acute.

Count me among the growing number of people who believe support of the Democratic Party, as such, is not merely a waste of time but, worse, a deeply negative activity.  Support for the Democratic Party leads to continued degradation of the United States and great harm to all citizens who are not wealthy.

The same has to be said about support for the Republican Party, but that does not mean rational people must therefore throw in with the Democrats. In plain language, they’re about equally bad for America and its people.  We desperately need a new party, and there is a logical place to begin forming one: With the long list of genuine liberal organizations that were given birth by the Internet. More of that shortly.

Shamus Cooke

Connecticut's Democratic Gov. Dannell Malloy: Nice rhetoric to camouflage Republican policies.

OBVIOUS POLITICAL TRUTHS are sometimes smothered by special interests. The cover-up of the Democrats’ national anti-union agenda is possible because the truth would cause enormous disturbances for the Democratic Party, some labor leaders, liberal organizations and, consequently, the larger political system.

Here is the short list of states that have Democratic governors where labor unions are undergoing severe attacks: Massachusetts, Connecticut, Oregon, California, New York, Illinois, Washington, Hawaii, Minnesota, Maryland and New Hampshire. Other states with Democratic governors are attacking unions to a lesser degree. Continue reading »
