I LITERALLY PAY SO LITTLE ATTENTION, that when my son asked me this morning what Prince was getting married, I wasn’t sure. Then he asked if it was true that Royals married among themselves and why didn’t they all end up nuts. Many did, I answered. Then I started thinking about why I don’t give a shit, and why so many Americans as well as other World Citizens do. Its the old “Little girl dreaming of being a Princess thing.” That is everything that is wrong with the world and the American psyche. We all want to be in this privileged class in which everyone reveres us, and caters to our every whim. We yearn to be among the ranks of an Elite that shouldn’t exist in the first place. We want the jewels, the pomp, the circumstance, never thinking that even the polish for the armorplate of the attending guard would feed a third world nation for a week. These are people who believed they were Divinely set apart, had blood so superior to the rest of humanity that breeding with the “lesser beings” is still scandalous. Rather than come with pitchforks to the event, as the British are asked to accept austerity, they and we wax all sentimental and dreamy about the “precious fairy tale” of it all, and swoon at this grotesque carnival of excess. The money spent on this fiasco would spare so many in England the indignity and hardships they are being made to endure. The beautiful gowns we will never wear. The Blood Diamonds dripping off every neck, wrist, finger and lobe. The feathers, the flowers, the absolute deferential respect given this small group of self-appointed Elites that still consider themselves a race apart. Sure, people like their childhood fantasies, fantasies fed them to ensure that adulation. Is it not time to wake up and realize that a far better dream for a world is one in which no small group of people drain so much of the World’s resources with not only our permission, but our fondest wishes for them. Fuck the Royal Wedding. Fuck the Royal Family. Fuck the Queen and her spawn. Fuck the British Empire and its demon child American Imperialism. Fuck the dream of being one of the Oppressors. Long live the People. Long live the dream of equality. Long live the revolution. Long live V!!!! Contributing Editor Diane Wieczorek (DIANE GEE) defines herself as follows: “Middle aged, overweight, undereducated housewife commie-pinko, socialist, semi-anarchist, tree-hugging, dfh, activist, writer and radio host who wants to save the World. Hows THAT for a bio?” Diane maintains a personal blog at THE WILD WILD LEFT.

I think Diane has hit it the nail on the head with what I regard as a brave article. While her opinions will be quickly labeled (and huffily dismissed) by conservatives as those of a “sore loser” in the lottery of life…she’s damn right –and fully entitled_ to her critical observations.
Besides being parasitic—the British royals, as one of the richest clans in the world —should PAY for their keep instead of being supported by the nation, a nation where the masses are increasingly screwed by precisely the social order whose apex they represent. Let’s face it friends, William and Kate may be as charming as they come, and they’re all those things children think of as “good”—come from “the right” families, are storybook pretty, and so on (not to mention the “right race”), but the presence of a reigning (if technically not governing) royal structure quietly and constantly validates the existence of a pecking order, a pyramid of privilege and snobbishness that discriminates against countless people. Plus, why would anyone on the left knowingly excuse the obscene level of inequality these folks represent, and, in a marketing universe, help to sell such to the unwashed billions? Extravaganzas like this wedding serve—whether intended or not—to prop up such system of gross inequality.
I could go on, but you get my point. Royalty and nobility in general—almost always faithfully allied with the Church (they have reason to thank “God” for their good fortunes)—are toxic anachronisms in the 21st century, no matter how much Katie Couric and all the rest of the bourgie media try to make you think otherwise. In fact, as is the case almost everywhere there’s social progress, such was not initiated nor backed nor attained by nobles and their entourages—leave the usual exceptions alone for a moment—but by the determined struggle of organized people and their loyal representatives. In all these struggles, the top tiers of society aligned themselves almost uniformly against the masses’ interest. History—not Hollywood versions of history—is quite eloquent about that.
And yet, people will defend the pomp and circumstance… despite the obvious class war flaunted in their faces… sigh.
They say everyone needs a bit of “fairytaling” in their humdrum existences, but this is such a display of over-the-top privilege in an era of global attack on the poor and working people everywhere by those who rub shoulders with the likes of these royals and their entourage that the spectacle leaves behind–for me–a bitter taste. Of course, most people are silly, and the telly assures that they will remain so. Alas, the abetting of stupidity is now one of the media’s major unstated tasks.
Thank you for an invigorating read!
