Elephants’ death march continues as the world fritters away time and resources that could help them

Stepping up the fight against elephant poachers
No matter which angle we look at it: blocking demand for ivory at the source; destroying stockpiles (which do nothing to dampen demand); combatting the poachers in the field; public mobilization campaigns by animal defense groups and wrongheaded approaches utilized; or the grotesquely inadequate amounts dedicated to the salvation of elephants and other species across Africa, Asia and other endangered areas, the response of humanity is pitifully slow, late and much too weak to stop the extinction of these wonderful animals.

Bear in mind that while poaching is the chief and most pressing factor in the disappearance of those animals, many indirect factors also play a substantive role. Include here the constant wars and global dislocations and distractions caused by conflict on the political and economic fronts issuing from a world that is literally rudderless (in terms of good leadership) and dominated by corrupt elites that generate poverty everywhere they rule—which is practically every corner of the planet—a fact that allows for habitat destruction on a massive scale, and the unchecked growth in human population.
