At the suggestion of Tom Baldwin, a colleague and associate who has dedicated a great deal of work to popularizing the work of Chris Hedges, and in general advancing political understanding, we present hereby a selection of materials relevant to the current acute global political, economic and ecological crisis precipitated by capitalism, and its chief defender, the government of the United States. —Branford Perry

Honoring the Works of Chris Hedges, No. 2, Important Video Presentations and Books
Composed by Thomas Baldwin

INTRODUCTION:
In “Honoring the Works of Chris Hedges, No. 1” I focused on his most recent work, especially his new book, “Wages of Rebellion: The Moral Imperative of Revolt” by showing at least two video presentations he had made since the book’s release. Included in that blog were also a Hedges and Richard Wolff presentation on “Marx, the System is the Problem”, Hedges interviews with scholar Sheldon Wolin (and his concept of Inverted Totalitarianism), a multipart interview of Scheer on “They Know Everything About You” and a Gary Null audio interview of Hedges. In Hedges most recent book and in his talks he displays his knowledge of revolts and revolutions that he has directly witnessed in other countries, and applies his knowledge of history in concluding that the U.S. needs a full scale revolution to rid ourselves of the “Corporate State” and the two party Duopoly which has become its servant. He further concludes that no meaningful change can occur within the electoral system with its current dominance from corporate elite control.
Honoring the Works of Chris Hedges–No. I– by Thomas Baldwin
The months of May-June, 2015, Chris Hedges launched and conducted a tour for what must be one of his best and most significant books. It is entitled “Wages of Rebellion: The Moral Imperative of Revolt”. Here is a short description as provided with the Amazon advertisement where one can also get a sneak peak. Then I present a few of his speeches on YouTube given with his book presentations in two or three locations. Note that an excellent listing of his work with Truthdig is also given on Truthdig.com at this site.
Revolutions come in waves and cycles. We are again riding the crest of a revolutionary epic, much like 1848 or 1917, from the Arab Spring to movements against austerity in Greece to the Occupy movement. In Wages of Rebellion, Chris Hedges—who has chronicled the malaise and sickness of a society in terminal moral decline in his books Empire of Illusion and Death of the Liberal Class—investigates what social and psychological factors cause revolution, rebellion, and resistance. Drawing on an ambitious overview of prominent philosophers, historians, and literary figures he shows not only the harbingers of a coming crisis but also the nascent seeds of rebellion. Hedges’ message is clear: popular uprisings in the United States and around the world are inevitable in the face of environmental destruction and wealth polarization.

FACT TO REMEMBER:
IF THE WESTERN MEDIA HAD ITS PRIORITIES IN ORDER AND ACTUALLY INFORMED, EDUCATED AND UPLIFTED THE MASSES INSTEAD OF SHILLING FOR A GLOBAL EMPIRE OF ENDLESS WARS, OUTRAGEOUS ECONOMIC INEQUALITY, AND DEEPENING DEVASTATION OF NATURE AND THE ANIMAL WORLD, HORRORS LIKE THESE WOULD HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED MANY YEARS, PERHAPS DECADES AGO. EVERY SINGLE DAY SOCIAL BACKWARDNESS COLLECTS ITS OWN INNUMERABLE VICTIMS.
