AMLO: Mexico is not a colony of the United States...

MEXICO CITY - The United States must modify its foreign policy to respect the sovereignty of nations, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said on Wednesday.

At his daily press conference, the Mexican president noted that the US government has applied an "arrogant" and "interventionist" foreign policy for at least two centuries since the adoption of the Monroe Doctrine.

"They have always acted like this. We have insisted a lot and will continue to do so, that they must change their foreign policy," Lopez Obrador told reporters.

A US State Department report issued earlier this week on the state of human rights around the globe alleges that human rights violations prevail in Mexico.

The Mexican president also accused the United States of trampling on other countries' sovereignty with its report on the state of human rights around the globe

"How are they going to talk about human rights if they allocate billions of dollars to war for the death of innocent people in countries all around the world where there is conflict?" he questioned.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Mexican president accused the United States of trampling on other countries' sovereignty with its report on the state of human rights around the globe.

"We do not issue a letter of good conduct because it is not our responsibility," Lopez Obrador said.

"But they were left with this mania from 200 years ago, since the Monroe Doctrine," he said, referring to the 19th-century US policy of interfering in the internal affairs of Latin American and Caribbean countries to protect the US interests.

According to Lopez Obrador, US leaders consider themselves to be "the judges of the world".

Lopez Obrador maintained that his administration has been respectful of US internal affairs since coming to power in December 2018 and expects the same from the United States.

"They should be respectful of us," said the president.
