GLENN GREENWALD—When Carlson raised these same questions on his Fox program, he did what I did when doing so: cited my reporting as well as Trevor Aaronson’s about the FBI’s long history of orchestrating such plots and luring people into them using informants and undercover agents. Much of that reporting about the FBI’s tactics was published by The Intercept, which — when aimed at American Muslims during the First War on Terror — had an editorial view that it was extremely improper and dangerous for the FBI to do this. But now that it is being done to American anti-government activists on the right, the site’s liberal editors seem happy about it.

GABRIEL ROCKHILL—It is often presumed that intellectuals have little or no political power. Perched in a privileged ivory tower, disconnected from the real world, embroiled in meaningless academic debates over specialized minutia, or floating in the abstruse clouds of high-minded theory, intellectuals are frequently portrayed as not only cut off from political reality but as incapable of having any meaningful impact on it. The Central Intelligence Agency thinks otherwise.

The disturbances in Cuba were marked by unprecedented violence and vandalism, jeopardizing the lives of hundreds of Cubans, including peaceful demonstrators and revolutionaries who took to the streets in response. However, the mainstream media have tried to deem the protests as peaceful to legitimize the narrative that the Cuban government, which does allow the right to demonstrate peacefully, was repressing those who do not support the revolution.

P. GREANVILLE—The repugnant evil of US policy toward Cuba is undeniable and in the open; it’s been so for decades—six and counting—and yet no one can do much about it because the rulers of the US, the billionaires that comprise its sociopathic oligarchy, will not lift their crippling economic embargo on the island, a polite term for economic warfare. And they can’t be forced to remove their sanctions—completely illegal from the standpoint of international law—because they hide behind America’s bloated military muscle and a thick wall of disinformation loyally operated by the system’s prostituted media. We know why this is being done. Cuba is hated and demonised by US ruling elites and their accomplices around the globe for the same reasons the Soviet Union and Communist China, and more recently Venezuela, Nicaragua and Iran have also been hated and feared: they provide a living demonstration that humanity has much better choices than the “American Way of Life,” that is, irrational and savagely predatory capitalism.
