The local media site “El Tiempo” reported that the ELN’s Jose Maria Becerra was responsible for the killings and attributed it to a dispute between insurgent groups and criminal groups that emerged after the demobilization of former guerrilla group FARC over the control of coca fields. Locals say the victims, aging between 20 and 35 years, are not part of the community.

CAITLIN JOHNSTONE—It’s really weird how many people in the political circles I move in are still running pretty much the exact same programs they were running in 2016. There are still former Berners acting like Hillary Clinton is the single greatest threat to America despite her being more or less irrelevant in 2018. There are still leftists and anarchists acting as though small neo-Nazi groups present a greater existential threat than the mainstream neoliberal neoconservative Orwellian power establishment. There are still liberals running the same “OMG TRUMP NAZI LITERALLY HITLER WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE” script despite overwhelming evidence showing that the most evil things this administration has done are all extensions of Bush and Obama administration policies.

KSHAMA SAWANT—Working people need to draw our own line in the sand. But to do so, we will need to build a stronger movement. We must use the coming months to prepare the launch of a broad progressive alliance to fight for affordable housing and replace the establishment politicians in Seattle City Hall. We need a new mass party in the US that will fight unambiguously for working people and the oppressed, and which accepts no corporate money.

Mexico: «So far from God, So Close to the United States»
18 minutes readVLADISLAV GULEVICH—Mexico is the nearest and weaker neighbor of the United States. Many a time it happened to be a victim of such neighborhood. The US intervention in 1846-1848 occupies a special place in Mexicans’ memory. We’re accustomed to call it the US-Mexican war. The historic and geographic remoteness of those events makes it hard to estimate the damage inflicted upon Mexico by combat actions and the geopolitical gains achieved by the United States.

JEFF J BROWN—A SIMPLY AMAZING REPORT BY OUR CHINA CORRESPONDENT AND ASSOCIATE EDITOR JEFF J BROWN. Although China did not qualify for the World Cup, it still sent more than 100,000 fans to Russia—more than several major countries combined. Postscript: This article says each Chinese football fan visiting Russia will spend an average of ¥30,000 each, or about €/$4,500. That comes to a total of ¥3 billion, or about €/$450 million – almost a half a billion dollars pumped into the Russian GDP. Four thousand Chinese are arriving in Russia every day, on 20 direct flights. In an international poll, 87% of the Chinese want to watch the World Cup, more than Russians, Brazilians, Italians and US citizens. The love affair between the peoples of Russia and China continues to flourish.
