JOHN R. HALL—How do you convince a schmuck with a two hundred thousand dollar high interest student loan debt and an engineering degree from the University of Arizona that working at Raytheon is tantamount to mass-murder? Who’s going to tell that testosterone-charged, fresh out of high school young buck that joining the U.S. Marines isn’t going to build him into a man, but, like so many boys before him, turn him into a fiend, a killer, a rapist?

VINCENT KELLEY—It is figures like Epstein who are most invested in the scientific and technological progress that so many well-adjusted, liberal Americans uncritically support. Although Epstein’s actions are especially deplorable, his Epicurean scientistic worldview is one that is held by many others as a default. The fact that a man like Epstein subscribes to such a widespread epistemology and funds what is ostensibly the scientific research and technological development of the future should give us all pause.

In this terrific interview, hilarious and incisive political comedian Jimmy Dore (http://twitter.com/jimmy_dore) sits down with The Young Turks’ host Cenk Uygur (http://twitter.com/cenkuygur) to discuss politics, the media and how corporations have seized control of them both – all of which Jimmy also covers in his new book, “Your Country Is Just Not That Into You: How the Media, Wall Street, and Both Political Parties Keep on Screwing You – Even After You’ve Moved on.”

PATRICE GREANVILLE—Capitalism has always drowned and faltered on its unjust social relations. The outrageously lopsided way it distributes income, the product of society, continually augmented by advances in technology, is a contradiction that has no economic answers because it is really a question of power, a question of politics. The constant elimination of jobs by automation, and their hemorrhage toward cheap-labor zones cannot be “cured” by job training programs or even better education for all (as Clinton cabinet member Robert Reich, the main evangelist for this pseudo-solution, still preaches).

ERIC SCHECHTER—Bernie has called himself a “democratic socialist,” which would indeed be a type of socialist. But Bernie seems to be more of a “social democrat,” which is actually not a type of socialist. Those two phrases are often confused, so much that they are sometimes used interchangeably, and Bernie has added to the confusion. Nevertheless, Bernie has been useful to the cause of socialism, as I will explain below.
