ERIC ZUESSE—READ THE STUNNING DISARMAMENT PROPOSAL THE SOVIETS TENDERED AT THE END OF WW2
Who benefited from America’s refusal even to discuss what had been U.S. President FDR’s aim for the post-WW-II world? The beneficiaries are what Eisenhower when leaving office called the “military industrial complex,” and are basically America’s hundred largest military contractors, especially the owners of the largest weapons-manufacturing firms such as Lockheed. Ike had served them well, and then three days before leaving office warned the public about them so as not to be blamed (along with Truman) by historians, for having created it.

Politician Calls For “Hiroshima” Solution To Gaza
7 minutes readEDITOR—Tim Walberg, a Republican US politician that somehow represents the utterly benighted people of Southern Michigan, is emblematic of the repugnant state of American politics. This moral imbecile, who in any country with some functional media, political culture, and education, should not be elected to ANY public office, has now proposed to “nuke” Gaza. This pathetic coward is now trying to walk back his idiotic and criminal utterance, but it’s hard to disavow something so vile as his proposal. We know that the long-suffering Palestinian people have no friends in the US political class of either party, as both faces of the uniparty are completely in the pocket of the MICIMATT (Military-Industrial-Congressional-Intelligence-Media-Academia-Think-Tank) complex, a confabulation of interests and nstitutions constantly pushing, hypocritically and sanctimoniously, for war and imperialism. It is in this rigged cultural cesspool that Americans “make their presidential choice” every four years, a particularly cruel joke in 2024 as Donald Trump is as pro Israel as any Democrat. Yes, this is the best Democracy that money can buy. Look what it gets us.

THOMAS FAZI—Javier Milei, Argentina’s self-styled “anarcho-capitalist” president, enjoys an almost Christ-like status among heterodox conservatives and MAGA-style Right-wingers, almost on a par with Trump himself. Like lovestruck teenagers, a certain type of conservative drools over Milei’s over-the-top mannerisms and “based” speeches against “libtards” and “communists”.
There is, however, a problem: aside from his questionable hairstyle and swamp-draining rhetoric, Milei actually has very little in common with Trump. For all his faults, Trump stood on a platform that rejected the neoliberal orthodoxy that had defined the Republican Party ever since the Reagan era. Trump’s agenda, by contrast, was markedly anti-libertarian: he advocated economic nationalism and protectionism, lambasted globalisation, promised to protect social welfare programmes, vowed to support local industries, and even courted the labour movement.

BILLY BOB—While proletarian dictatorship develops policies and propaganda based on the best interest of the entirety of the working class, the bourgeois dictatorships decide policy and propaganda based on what is in the best interests of the wealthy elites. In other words, proletarian dictatorship is democratic and wants to further the interests of the masses while the dictatorship of the bourgeoisie is anti-democratic and is solely concerned with maintaining the power and privilege of the wealthy elites.

MICHAEL ROBERTS—All the Indonesian presidential candidates are promising upwards of 15 million new jobs in the next five years, in a country where about 3 million people enter the job market annually. But most estimates reckon that Indonesia needs 7% economic growth annually to churn out enough jobs for its young population and the growth forecast for the next two years is closer to 4% a year. Around 1,000 jobs were created for every trillion rupiah of investment in 2022, compared with 4,500 jobs in 2013.
These jobs are supposed to be generated by moving away from an economy based on mining, oil production and single crop agro exports (palm oil), which are mainly capital intensive to a more broad-based manufacturing and hi-tech economy like China or Vietnam.
