EDWARD SAID—Sure enough Sartre did have something for us: a prepared text of about two typed pages that – I write entirely on the basis of a twenty-year-old memory of the moment – praised the courage of Anwar Sadat in the most banal platitudes imaginable. I cannot recall that many words were said about the Palestinians, or about territory, or about the tragic past. Certainly no reference was made to Israeli settler-colonialism, similar in many ways to French practice in Algeria. It was about as informative as a Reuters dispatch, obviously written by the egregious Victor to get Sartre, whom he seemed completely to command, off the hook.

ED CURTIN—As repugnantly amoral as the profession he literally invented, Edward Bernays saw nothing wrong in promoting bloodsoaked coups to suit the interests of rich transnationals or assorted plutocrats.

KULTURALIA—We thought this was an interesting topic, and the author does provide some persuasive answers. He may be focusing too much on “modern soldiers” typical of the “West”, especially those of Northern European extraction, Britan, Germany, etc., or US soldiers, who comprise a predominant mass of huge people, typical of the US population. That said, the comparison may be less apt when we talk about “modern soldiers” from the Philippines, Korea, Vietnam, Chile, El Salvador, Japan, etc., where average male body mass is certainly much smaller.
JOHN R HALL—From their corporate cages all domesticated sentient beings await their turns to become martyrs to capitalism. Cows, pigs, sheep, turkeys, and chickens moo, oink, bleat, gobble, and cackle their way to the meat grinders. Credit card zombified humanoids, distracted beyond all hope by shiny objects and virgins fondling credit cards, spend like drunken sailors, then toil like slaves, under the threatening whip of bankruptcy, hunger, and homelessness, calloused hands digging their own early earthly graves.

Florida scientists Michael and Patricia Lawman imagine a day when cancer could be treated with a single vaccination, with no debilitating side effects. And these scientists believe that day is coming sooner rather than later. This husband-and-wife Ph.D. team has developed a “cancer vaccine,” which is undergoing clinical trials at Tampa’s Moffitt Cancer Center, reported the Tampa Bay Times on August 12, 2019.
