War and Elections (and Propaganda)

tgp-eagle-c

“In the most deceitful manner, corporate news media fully adopt not only the official lies, but the role of “complicit enabler”, as a former White House press secretary under Bush would call the press, by promoting the whole narrative of “humanitarian invasions”, “responsibility to protect”, “terrorist links” and any other concoction designed to sell wars of aggression…”

War and elections are two very appropriate moments to analyze propaganda. As the former becomes more and more ‘normalized’ after a decade and a half of continuous wars (on terror?) in the Middle East, the latter brought us, with Trump’s victory, a sort of bonus I find rather illustrative: a mea culpa from a ‘liberal’ media incapable of reading into an important segment of the public.

Of course, the reasons for this failure are many times beyond the language and topics allowed in mainstream media debate, ‘liberal’ or not, and in the resulting contortions they practice while trying to explain them, important aspects of the propaganda apparatus reach the light of critical observation.

For corporate media, ‘liberal’ also means to leave behind all traces of impartiality and, despite massive popular disdain for both candidates in the 2016 elections, “describe the prospects of her (Clinton) presidency as one of responsibility, national security, business prosperity and political normalcy”.(1)

When we talk about ‘liberal’ media—with a profound spectrum shift to the right having taken place  several generations ago —we are talking about a spectrum of opinion both pre-eminent and permitted within the mainstream. In this realm, what could pass as conservative is instead called ‘liberal’, while the modestly liberal is many times regarded as  ‘radical’.

This is a simple way of framing reality that parallels the constant ‘moving to the right’, by both Republicans and Democrats (and political systems around the world as well, due to American influence). What was the ‘center’ a decade or two ago is now considered ‘leftist’, and so on.

“The angry and disaffected are victims of the neoliberal policies of the past generation… explained by Alan Greenspan as based substantially on ‘growing worker insecurity’. Intimidated working people would not ask for higher wages, benefits and security”. (2)

The explanation above is beyond most ‘liberal’ media acceptable language. Note that it isn´t the mention or truthful explanation of neoliberalism, (consciously avoided in mainstream narrative for too long) but the direct and damning accusation which is, in the best of cases, on the margins of the MSM narrative, meaning the public won’t receive that kind of message in a repetitive and insistent fashion, experts will not be summoned to convince anybody of the blowback of neoliberalism on the vulnerable.

Instead, corporate media will indulge in many ‘theories’:

“We are talking about a problem at the very core of journalism: the unstated theory of change that could be summed up as: ‘society will get better when we show where it is wrong’. We are presenting what’s wrong with the world as if that’s all there is”, (3) explained David Bernstein and Tina Rosenberg (New York Times) stating that Trump benefited from the “hyper-cynicism” of people that results from news media’s disposition to show society where it’s wrong, which creates distrust in the establishment and institutions, driving them to outsiders, who many times pose for “change”.

“…the white working class”, they continue, “…have suffered serious economic and social dislocation. Many feel powerless and resent elites and journalists, whom they find arrogant and condescending”. (Emphasis added).

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t’s indeed telling that the white working class would group together and regard elites and journalists as sharing such characteristics. Perhaps it relates to the fact that much of mainstream journalism represents the interests of elites, and not society, much less the working class, white or not.

Being constantly exposed to the visible surface of human problems while avoiding their substance is, surprisingly, failing to bring about change.

In conclusion, if the central issue lies beyond the political framework news media create for certain (most) topics, the readers and viewers will be diverted into an understanding of that reality by the means of euphemism and scapegoats.

Ideological blind spots

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he inability of corporate media to foresee Trump could be explained by its blind spots when considering society’s setbacks surviving the economic policies in which corporations thrive. This, of course, is shared by a political establishment also oriented to cater for corporate interests.

The features of neoliberalism that are convenient for private wealth but nefarious for common people tend to circumvent mainstream narrative, in fact, part of the language needed to criticize them do not exist in their lexicon. For most ‘liberal media’, advocating for consideration of other economical orientations or alternatives is completely off-limits. It´s only natural then that they are unable to speak to or even understand important segments of society.

In the words of Craig Murray: “In neither the UK nor the US is a viable radical alternative going to be put before the electorate in the near future. Those who believe either Brexit or Trump presage a break from neoliberalism will be sorely disappointed. They represent the continuance of neoliberalism, but with popular discontent diverted into added racism“. (5) [Emphasis mine]

When the war efforts are finished, mainstream media soon forgets their role in it and the dire consequences of the catastrophe provoked, with complete disregard for valid criticism on them and the politicians whose lies they promoted.

We could list a number of scapegoats used by the mainstream media to explain Trump’s election, all reflecting realities which hardly defined it, but in whose name arguments can be put forward: misogyny, racism, xenophobia, nationalism, Facebook lies too much, etc.

First of all, the ‘lesser evil’ didn’t really conform to the qualities of progressiveness it was said to stand for (in discourse):

“Occupying the right wing of the Democratic Party, Clinton has aligned herself with a war culture that supports drone warfare and continues to support military policies that result in the needless deaths of millions of children in the Middle East, Yemen, Somalia, and other places that bear the brunt of America’s foreign policy. It is difficult to imagine, given Clinton’s coziness with the financial elite, big corporations, the military-industrial complex and the reigning war culture, that she will do anything that will lessen the violence to which children, both at home and around the globe, will face under her potential reign as President of the United States”. (6)

This is a concise excerpt of HRC’s affiliations, hardly the ‘lesser evil’ to a pampered billionaire celebrity with no experience in ‘humanitarian invasions’.

We can observe the similarities between news media representation of political leaders and their own discourse (therefore Obama is ‘progressive’) and then recognize the disconnection with the facts and their actions (destroying thousands of innocent lives remotely by drones, no questions asked and no due process).

Facebook “lies for Trump”

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]ainstream media have accused Facebook’s failed algorithms and policies for giving an extra boost to news reporting the Pope endorsing Trump, among other fakes, and finally to Trump himself.

Lying, omitting crucial facts, the vital context, reporting the ‘official’ version unverified, especially when advancing war propaganda, among other common practices, are a privileges MSM jealously protect.

The scandal over Facebook’s putative carelessness over the dissemination of fake posts could misled us into thinking fake news are something rare in mainstream media, which is sadly far from the truth. The most scandalous lies and “fake news” in news media, as a matter of fact, exist and occur routinely in the corporate press, and they cost thousands of hundreds of lives, even millions (remember Iraq’s “weapons of mass destruction”, the “Viagra-filled” Libyan soldiers about to commit “an atrocity against their own people”? Only two recent examples).

Indeed, lies and fake news fly straight from “official” sources to the NYT front pages without verification when the need to create fear and blind support for violence abroad becomes urgent. This fake news are later reproduced around the world, where local, capitalist-owned mainstream media take the NYT or CNN as authority and anything they publish is automatically validated.

In the most deceitful manner, corporate news media fully adopts not only the official lies, but the role of “complicit enabler”, as a former White House press secretary under Bush would call the press, by promoting the whole narrative of “humanitarian invasions”, “responsibility to protect”, “terrorist links” and any other concoction designed to sell wars of aggression. (8)

When the war efforts are finished, mainstream media soon forgets their role in it and the dire consequences of the catastrophe provoked, with complete disregard for valid criticism on them and the politicians whose lies they promoted.

Jessica Yellin, who worked for MSNBC in 2003, said that journalists covering the war on Iraq had been “under enormous pressure from corporate executives, frankly, to make sure that this was a war presented in a way that was consistent with the patriotic fever in the nation”. (9)

“The claim that Bush decided early in his presidency to attack Iraq is supported by earlier exposés. The leaked minutes of a highly confidential Downing Street memo dated July 23, 2002 records the words of Sir Richard Dearlove, the head of British Intelligence service, MI6: ‘Military action was now seen as inevitable. Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD (both lies). But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy’”. (Parenthesis is mine) (10).

This is only part of the facts and truths not introduced into mainstream narrative, part of their lies and fakes. It resembles all the unclassified intelligence correspondence and WikiLeaks files regarding Syria in the years leading to its ongoing war, explaining the true aims driving US foreign policy there and the nature of the uprising, also disappeared from history by MSM.

This applies like a rule on most armed conflicts where Western interests must be protected, and wars should be “presented in a way that (is) consistent with the patriotic fever in the nation”.

Yesterday, Steffan de Mistura, UN envoy to Syria, proposed to create an independent administration for Aleppo, aiming to stop the violence between the Syrian Army and the rebels which Mistura himself admitted, are 50% al-Nusra, al-Qaeda affiliate. (11) The unclassified intelligence documents mentioned above mention in clarity about the creation of a “Salafist Principality in Syria” as a political possibility for the ongoing war. (12)

Just to be clear, Nicholas Kristof was not referring to Bush, Cheney, Blair, Cameron or Obama when talking about “nuts” being empowered by fake news. But perhaps we are going too deep in actually investigating the subjects we report.

Somehow, the idea of mainstream media lying to its public or ignoring facts remains bizarre and outlandish to many journalists, which seems either disingenuous or dangerously naive:

“The point was, my daughter had some facts. Or thought she had some facts. The gist was that these so-called facts, which she’d picked up online, were not only enormous and significant, but were being suppressed by the mainstream media. Everyone knew about these facts but were determined to ignore them, because these facts reflected badly on the government. I pointed out to my daughter that I had some little experience of journalism and the news media, and that such a scenario was excessively unlikely”. (Tim Lott, How do I tell my daughter that her online ‘truth is a conspiracy theory? The Guardian, 11/11/16)

I honestly don’t think Tim Lott is lying to her daughter nor himself. What am I missing?

Another concerned parent, writing for Buzzfeed, shared:

The question unspooling in my mind… the question I kept asking my husband and our equally horrified and bewildered friends, was how on earth we would face our children and clear the breakfast table gauntlet the morning after. How could we possibly explain to our daughter that, given the choice between a hardworking, imperfect, eminently qualified stateswoman and a reality-television star running on a platform of hatred and fear, so many people — including many of our neighbors, friends, some of our family members — chose the latter?” (Nichole Chung, The Day After the Election, I Tell my Daughter the Truth. Buzzfeed, 11/10/16)

Those are the hardships of a bourgeois childhood. A few years later they might be facing a harsher truth: their parents indulged in an image of their admired leaders completely divorced from reality, but closer to their own discourses and the way mainstream media would like us to see them. After all, they represent powerful interests, and must be allowed to act on their behalf by faking legitimacy.

Facebook is lying for the wrong interests today, but it’s being fixed so “fake news”, many times an ambiguous and biased characterization, will only translate the desired channels in the right direction.

NYT Editors Bash Russia on Thanksgiving Day

black-horizontalDispatches from
STEPHEN LENDMAN

stevenlendmanbanner
T    he Times operates as a press agent for wealth, power and privilege, a lying machine using journalism as advocacy for deplorable policies, disgracefully betraying readers deserving better.

Bad habits die hard. Many people continue to believe the NYTimes is must reading every day or every Sunday, its word preferred to any other.

Shameless Russia bashing persists – even on Thanksgiving Day, Times editors headlining “Warning Russia on Hacking Isn’t Enough,” saying: Obama “hinted at some kind of retaliation…Because Donald Trump, an outspoken admirer of Vladimir Putin, is unlikely to act, it is up to Mr. Obama to hold the Russian president to account.”
..
Fact: Russia had nothing to do with hacking DNC emails. It didn’t interfere with America’s political process, including November’s election. Not a shred of credible evidence suggests it. Claiming it is a Big Lie – The Times a leading proliferator, substituting willful misinformation for truth-telling.  Its editors irresponsibly want Russia punished before Obama leaves office, including by more illegal sanctions.
..

They claimed “warnings alone (won’t) be enough to deter Mr. Putin, who has shown no hesitation in challenging America during the post-election transition by continuing to bomb Aleppo, in Syria, and by installing new nuclear-capable missiles in Kaliningrad, Russia, near the NATO border.”

Dean Baquet, current Disinformer in Chief. At its most vile, the empire requires more tokenism to fool the masses. That's the pitfall of PC politics as used by the ruling class.

Dean Baquet, current Disinformer in Chief. At its most vile, the empire requires more tokenism to fool the masses. That’s the pitfall of PC politics as used by the ruling class. They pervert long denied justice. Doing the right thing for the wrong reasons, and enlisting these collaborators to extend the victimisation to millions around the globe.

..
Fact: Throughout his tenure as Russia’s president, Washington consistently undermined Putin’s responsible outreach – wanting cooperative relations with America, NATO and all other nations.
..
Fact: On October 18, Russia and Syria halted aerial operations on eastern Aleppo, focusing on surrounding areas, others elsewhere in the country, combating US-supported ISIS and other terrorists.
..
Fact: Explaining its deployment of ballistic missiles and air defense S-400s in Kaliningrad, (its most Western territory, an oblast between Poland and Lithuania) Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said “Russia is doing all that is necessary to protect itself against the backdrop of NATO’s expansion toward its borders.”
..
“NATO is indeed an aggressive bloc. That is why Russia is doing everything that is necessary. Russia has all the sovereign rights to take the necessary measures across all the territory of the Russian Federation.”
..
Fact: Self-defense is a universal right, permitted under international law. UN Charter Article 51 affirms it, including for protection against imminent or possible threats.
The Times is a malicious force for ill, not good. It’s my main scoundrel media target because of its global influence.  My mission is countering its misinformation and Big Lies – exposing them to the light of day, the best disinfectant.

Trump Unloads on Media Scoundrels

black-horizontalDispatches from
STEPHEN LENDMAN

stevenlendmanbanner

EditorsNote_WhiteWatching Trump castigate the media barons and their henchmen—media stars, top editors and tv producers— is sweet indeed, a refreshing, truly unprecedented spectacle, and these bastards deserve every ounce of venom The Donald is hurling at them. Fully complicit in horrendous crimes, including devastating wars and plotting more, they should be flogged in the public square. That said, let us never lose sight of the fact that Trump represents just one wing of the plutocracy, currently in conflict with the other wing (the one still licking its wounds) supporting Hillary and the Media/MIC establishment and its Neocon project of constant wars and US hegemony at any cost, an enterprise that until Nov. 8 vociferously included the entire whorish liberal commentariat and their numerous ramifications throughout American culture.
..
Yea, Trump is no champion of the working class, not by a long shot, but a pampered egotist who, in this case, is nonetheless justified in being irate at the treatment he received from the media whores. While the tongue lashing he already gave them is well deserved, and more may come when he meets with the supremos of the New York Times and WaPo, two enormous engines of imperial hypocrisy and disinformation, eventually we bet that class interests will prevail and make for nice nice among them, or else Trump will move out of their orbit into no man’s land with completely unpredictable consequences. Indeed Trump’s “more rational” voices are already joining the system-wide “normalization” effort on behalf of Trump and his momentary opponents.  In all cases, let us keep calm, flexible in our responses, and remember that the enemy of my enemy may not necessarily be my friend. Ergo, we must NOT let our guard down. Trump, a plutocrat with autocratic tendencies illustrates the wisdom of this maxim in glowing technicolor. Let him show us the money before believing an iota of what he says.
..
All the above notwithstanding, from the start of his campaign Trump has broken all rules of Omertá holding the filthy secrets of the plutocratic establishment within its carefully hidden folds. That’s what happens when ruling class factions clash: some truth manages to bubble up to the surface, where the hoi polloi, at last, can get a measure of reality about the situation confronting them. —PG

Media scum troop up to Trump Tower to pay obeisance and meet with the new man in charge.

Top media executives & stars meet with Trump. Click here for more info.

NBC's Chuck Todd and Lester Holt; CNN's Wolf Blitzer and Erin Burnett; CBS's Norah O'Donnell, Charlie Rose, John Dickerson, and Gayle King; and ABC's George Stephanopoulos, David Muir and Martha Raddatz were some of the anchors seen entering Trump Tower shortly before 1 p.m.

Several executives from the network news divisions were also spotted on the way into Trump Tower, including ABC News president James Goldston; CNN president Jeff Zucker; Fox News co-presidents Bill Shine and Jack Abernethy; NBC News president Deborah Turness; MSNBC president Phil Griffin; and CBS News vice president Chris Isham.

There was much for the group to talk about. Trump has long-standing relationships with many in the TV news business -- but he also waged an anti-media crusade during his campaign for president.

Throughout America’s just concluded political season, major media reporting was scandalous, near-entirely one-sided for Hillary, shamelessly anti-Trump, inventing reasons to denigrate him. It’s why I call the lot of them scoundrels. In his day, famed journalist George Seldes (1890 – 1995) railed against “prostitution of the press.”

..
He called fourth estate presstitutes “the most powerful force against the general welfare of the majority of the people.” For Gerald Celente, they’re “shills, sellouts and media whores.” Paul Craig Roberts calls them “presstitutes.” So do I, explaining they substitute advocacy for journalism, sinking to the level of press agents for wealth, power and privilege – keeping readers and viewers misinformed and distracted. The New York Times is my prime target because of its global influence. On domestic and geopolitical issues mattering most, it’s a lying machine, publishing state and corporate propaganda, suppressing what’s most important to know.
 ..
Throughout the scoundrel media universe, managed news misinformation substitutes, glorifying wars in the name of peace, claiming they’re about democracy building. Aggressive wars are called liberating ones. Mass slaughter and destruction are portrayed as humanitarian intervention. Carving up continents for profit is considered economic development. Exploiting workers as virtual serfs is called jobs creation.
 ..

CNN's Zucker: one of the top media scoundrels in the Western universe.

CNN’s Zucker: one of the top media scoundrels in the Western media sphere.

On Monday, around two dozen television media bosses and anchors visited the president-elect in Trump Tower for an off-the-record meeting. Was it to kiss the ring they once cursed?  According to the New York Post, it was a “f…ing firing squad,” Trump unloading on attendees. He blasted CNN president Jeff Zucker. According to an unnamed source, he said “I hate your network. Everyone at CNN is a liar and you should be ashamed.”

 ..
“The meeting was a total disaster,” said the source. “The TV execs and anchors went in there thinking they would be discussing the access they would get to the Trump administration, but instead they got a Trump-style dressing down.” He “kept saying, ‘(w)e’re in a room of liars, the deceitful dishonest media who got it all wrong.’ He addressed everyone in the room calling the media dishonest, deceitful liars.”
..
NYT publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. meets with Trump on Tuesday, his publication and the Washington Post the lead anti-Trump print media throughout the campaign – some of the worst pure rubbish I read and reported on since mid-2015 when Trump and Hillary announced they’re run for president. Politico reported Trump saying he wants a “reset…fairness…the truth” henceforth. His campaign manager Kellyanne Conway called the meeting “very candid and very honest,” adding the president-elect “did not explode in anger.”
 ..
Trump isn’t one to mince words. While campaigning, he blasted media misreporting about him numerous times in stump speeches. On all important issues, state and corporate advocacy journalism substitutes for the real thing.

Battles with Media Scoundrels Continue: UK Think Tank Bashes Russia, Vilifies Putin, NYT urges Internet censorship

black-horizontalDispatches from
STEPHEN LENDMAN

stevenlendmanbanner
O n issues mattering most, The Times shamelessly publishes state and corporate propaganda, pretending it’s all the news fit to print. Along with other media scoundrels, it long ago lost credibility, why alternative sources of news, information and analysis are growing at their expense. Following reliable ones exclusively is the only way to stay informed – essential in today’s dangerous world.

 NYT Urges Internet Censorship

EDITOR’S NOTE:
Cover photo above: Dean Baquet, current New York Times editor.

Another black face to fool the masses. The Neoliberal plutocracy likes to hide behind politically correct masks. They did it brilliantly with Obama, they do it with many men and women pigeonholed in positions of pseudo power sprinkled throughout the establishment. Baquet, whose decency and fides as a true journalist can be gauged by his serving the Times, has been the executive editor of The New York Times since May 14, 2014, reporting directly to Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, Jr., the chairman and publisher.[3] Between 2011 and 2014 he served as managing editor under the previous executive editor Jill Abramson.[4] Baquet is the first black American to serve as executive editor, the highest-ranking position in The New York Times newsroom. —PG
(Wikipedia)

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Times and other media scoundrels misinform, distort, distract and lie, vital hard truths banished from their reporting – fake news their specialty. A previous article discussed Google and Facebook intentions to halt what they call “fake news,” claiming it’s to counter misinformation. I asked if their real aim is censorship. Will other online companies operate the same way? Is free and open Internet content at risk? Will reliable alternative media sources be targeted for elimination?
..

Will dark forces controlling America only let their message be disseminated, destroying the essence of democratic free expression? On Monday, Global Research editor Michel Chossudovsky [along with The Greanville Post editor Patrice Greanville who published an alert around the same time] stressed the danger and raised the same issue, essentially saying “(a) smear campaign is currently underway accusing the alternative and independent media online media of producing ‘Fake News.’ “

“Fake news,” according to Times editors, is content disagreeing with what the self-styled “newspaper of record” reports. “Real news” is daily rubbish it publishes – a cesspool of misinformation, distortions and Big Lies on major issues mattering most.

[dropcap]N[/dropcap]ever before in America and other Western societies was it so urgent to stay vigilant about growing tyranny replacing fundamental rights – none more important than speech, media and academic freedoms. Without them, all others are at risk. Does the NYT advocate what demands denunciation? It appears so from a Sunday editorial, headlined “Facebook and the Digital Virus Called Fake News,” the title indicating disturbing content to follow, saying:
 ..
“(M)illions of people (are) taken in by fake news stories…spread on social media sites” – what Times editors call a “scourge,” claiming “internet companies like Facebook and Google…ma(de) it possible for fake news to be shared nearly instantly with millions of users and have been slow to block it from their sites.”
 ..
“Fake news,” according to Times editors, is content disagreeing with what the self-styled “newspaper of record” reports. “Real news” is daily rubbish it publishes – a cesspool of misinformation, distortions and Big Lies on major issues mattering most. Their solution is what Edward Herman and Noam Chomsky discussed in their book, titled “Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy and the Mass Media” – explaining how media scoundrels manipulate and control public thinking and perceptions by filtering news and information.
 ..
Acceptable “residue” only is reported. Dissent is marginalized. Government and dominant private interests alone are served. In his 1928 book titled “Propaganda,” Edward Bernays said it’s possible to “regiment the public mind every bit as much as an army regiments their bodies.”
 ..
“If we understand the mechanism and motives of the group mind, is it not possible to control and regiment the masses according to our will without their knowing about it?” In his book titled “Taking the Risk Out of Democracy: Corporate Propaganda versus Freedom and Liberty,” Alex Carey said:
 ..
“The twentieth century has been characterized by three developments of great political importance: the growth of democracy, the growth of corporate power, and the growth of corporate propaganda as a means of protecting corporate power against democracy.”
 ..
Media scoundrels, like The Times, are gatekeepers, wanting their message alone disseminated, excluding truth-telling alternative sources, exposing their misinformation and Big Lies. The Times says these vital reports are “hoaxes,” claiming “dissemination of (what it calls) fake news on Facebook…has been a longstanding problem,” advocating “(b)locking” it – censorship by any standard while ignoring it own daily “fake news” on issues mattering most.
 ..
News consumers in America and other Western societies are relentlessly carpet-bombed with scoundrel media-proliferated “fake news.” Tune them out. Ignore their publications. Choose reliable alternative sources for news, information and analysis.  Get involved to keep the Internet open, free and fair. Challenge dark forces wanting their message alone disseminated.

TAKE 2

The London-based, right wing, militantly anti-Russia Henry Jackson Society issued a disgraceful report, titled “Putin’s  Useful Idiots: Britain’s Left, Right and Russia.”

..
It challenges the credibility of guests appearing on Russian media, claiming some support his “standing up to the European Union and/or defending ‘traditional values’ from the corrupting influence of liberalism.”

Others admire Russia “in part out of ideological folly: they see anybody who opposes Western imperialism as a strategic bedfellow.”

..
The report ignores deplorable BBC and other Western propaganda, criticizing so-called “Kremlin-backed” media as “Russia’s propaganda networks…Putin makes for a deceptive and dangerous friend,” it claimed. Its McCarthyite recommendations to UK and other European lawmakers are disturbing – making Western and Eastern Europe more tyrannical than already if adopted, urging:
..
“Activists, journalists, and politicians should point out the pro-Russian connections of individuals and parties across the political spectrum and challenge the credibility of these entities via political debates.  The personal and organisational connections of left-and right-wing politicians and parties and their Russian counterparts should be mapped across Europe.”
..
“As individuals and movements on the left and right grow in influence across Europe, the continent must wake up to their insidious means of funding. Parliaments across Europe should amend current legislation or pass new legislation that forces politicians to declare all media appearances they make, whether they receive money for them or not.  Academics, commentators, and others should raise awareness in the West of the nature of the Russian regime.”
..
Is Trump a Kremlin puppet for appearing on RT? Is his wanting better Russia/US relations something to fear? Should appearances on Russian media be criminalized? Are only Western and likeminded media reports acceptable, no others? I’ve been interviewed on RT, Sputnik News and other Russian media.
..
I support peace, equity, justice, ecosanity, rule of law principles, multi-world polarity, and mutual cooperation among all nations. I oppose imperial lawlessness, fantasy democracy, tyranny, and government serving wealth, power and privilege at the expense of most everyone else.
..

Does that make me anti-American? A Kremlin puppet?

Establishment’s fight against “Fake News” a covert war on Free Speech

Can the industrial manufacturers of lies and fake reality help us determine what is “fake news”?

That, apparently, is what the system’s shills are after in raising the alarm about the spread of “fake news” throughout the Internet. For starters this is transparently dishonest. Unrestricted opinion, including insane and very biased items, have long circulated on the Net. But in the free for all of mass communications which is the Internet, there’s also a rising trend: honest truth-tellers with a widening audience. An audience whose expansion is a threat to the guardians of the national brainwash, of benefit only to the plutocratic 0.00001% fronted by the Duopoly politicians and their associated presstitutes crawling all over the MSM.

The video below is a harbinger of probably more to come. A thinly-veiled attempt at demonising opinion the establishment finds dangerous to their own hold on the public mind. Paving the way for a more frontal attack on dissenters on the web. Choking free speech. This is something that everyone should realize and stand firm to oppose and resist. For whenever the system managers demonise something, worse attacks follow.

An analysis of this development is presented on a separate post introducing our new section, SPOTLIGHT, so there is no need to repeat it here. Meantime, just watch this video below and start learning how to read the truth between the lines, or under the top layer of sanctimonious posturing offered by the system’s front men, women, the official mouthpieces. It’s the kind of instruction that you have been missing all along but no longer can afford to neglect. If you think we exaggerate you are not paying attention. And if you keep reading the New York Times, watching mainstream TV, or listening to the faux left voices, you’ll simply be blindsided by events. It’s really up to you. For no one else can ultimately control what you believe.

This is the way CBS presents this toxic piece of pseudo news trash:

The battle to stop the spread of fake news online

CBS This Morning  | Nov. 18, 2016

Published on Nov 19, 2016

There’s growing concern about fake stories online to draw in readers and possibly mislead voters. Dan Ackerman, senior editor at CNET, and Jeff Jarvis, a journalism professor at the City University of New York, join “CBS This Morning: Saturday” to discuss the motivation behind the fake headlines, and the role websites and social media platforms should play to inform users.
