Obama’s (and George W Bush’s) political rehabilitation continues apace; new propaganda tool introduced
6 minutes readP. GREANVILLE—The propaganda mavens running the imperial disinformation machine have apparently developed—perhaps in conjunction with Facebook and other social media platforms, and certainly with their support—a new and sneaky approach to propagandise for their establishment heroes—criminals to us. Here’s an eloquent example doing the rounds of Facebook and collecting tons of clueless endorsers. Suddenly we’re seeing lots of “Share if…” items pushing complimentary views of the Obamas, the Clintons, and even Bush2, one of the great international criminals of the century. Note that in many cases this approach is being used by Democrats.

DIANA JOHNSTONE—Still, if Trump actually makes a “deal”, there may be losers – neither the U.S. nor Russia but third parties. When two great powers reach agreement, it is often at somebody else’s expense. The West Europeans are afraid it will be them, but such fears are groundless. All Putin wants is normal relations with the West, which is not much to ask.

BILL VAN AUKEN—The terms “left” and “right” have ceased to have any real significance within the context of bourgeois politics in the US. The neo-McCarthyite politics embraced by the Democrats express the shift by the entire ruling establishment and its warring factions toward reaction and the destruction of the basic social and democratic rights of the broad mass of working people.

GLEN FORD—The Democrats can forget about ever getting back most of these self-aware white supremacist voters, but the establishment corporate Republicans that Trump crushed in winning the GOP nomination will not win back his followers’ allegiance unless they become more like Trump, i.e. more blatantly white supremacist. Which is decidedly not the corporate way, in the 21stcentury.
