TERJE MALOY—Ronald Reagan came to power in 1981, and immediately ratcheted up the tensions in the Cold War. Reagan initiated a massive military buildup, accompanied by a major disinformation campaign and a war of nerves aimed at reducing the Soviet leaderships self-confidence. Superior financial resources and new technological innovations gave the US a technological and military edge. Reagan’s intention was to not just to hold one’s own, but to win the Cold War outright. To achieve this, he formed an informal group, known as the ‘deception committee’, consisting of a few select close associates led by CIA-director Bill Casey. These military and intelligence officers were responsible for operational activities, giving the White House plausible deniability in case of exposure.

Cost of potential US war with Iran? $250 oil & another [much much bigger] Afghanistan
12 minutes readMIKHAIL KHODARENOK—Firstly, it should be pointed out that even though the capabilities of US intelligence agencies are almost limitless, quite a few Iranian missile launching sites remain undiscovered. Secondly, US air defense systems in the Persian Gulf, no matter how effective, would not shoot down every last Iranian missile. And even a handful of Tehran’s missiles reaching critical infrastructure in the Persian Gulf region would be enough to cause devastation. On top of that, there are more questions than answers regarding the reliability of the antimissile and air defense systems that the Persian Gulf monarchies deployed to defend their hydrocarbon terminals and other oil and gas infrastructure.

PHILIP A. FARRUGGIO—One can fast forward to some of our own nation’s so called ‘ Wars’ after WW2: Korea, Vietnam and of course Iraq. In all of these instances the public was sold, hook, line and sinker, the fear card that our entire way of life would come to an end if we did not fight. And fight we did, or should I say in the case of Iraq ‘ And attack we did!’ This ‘ guns and butter ‘ approach only succeeded, each and every time, in helping to further the slow timed bankruptcy process, both fiscally and morally.

PAUL EDWARDS—The story is so patently phony it sinks itself. It would be comic if our Imperial Bozos were not fixated on provoking war with a country that, should an attack come, is able and sworn to inflict grievous damage on its attacker. Pompeo and Bolton are not concerned. The War Machine needs them and what they do because it needs its wars.

US wants low-yield nukes to blackmail dissident countries, not to deter Russia – Moscow
9 minutes readThe US returning to its views “from 60 years ago,” when they believed that a “limited nuclear war” was acceptable and winnable, is a source of serious concerns, the Foreign Ministry said, adding that “this is apparently linked to the growing signs of Washington’s desire to refuse its obligations under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT).”
