NILES NIEMUTH—Speaking on CNN’s “Reliable Sources” program just three days after being released, Manning made clear that she will resist the new grand jury subpoena, even at the cost of being sent back to prison.“I am going to refuse,” Manning explained when asked by host Brian Stelter if she would comply with the new subpoena. “I think that this grand jury is an improper—I think that all grand juries are improper. I don’t like the secrecy of it.”Manning explained that she hoped her attorney’s appeal to quash the subpoena would be successful and she would not have to return to jail. “We’re certainly going to raise every single legal challenge,” she said. “We have a very strong case.” Manning already answered all of the questions raised by the grand jury during her testimony at trial in 2013.

PETER KOENIG—Why do they risk everything – even a devastating war?Well, there are several reasons. First you may think, “It’s the Oil, stupid!” – And second, the turbo-capitalist, neoliberal turning-to-neofascist US will not tolerate a socialist state in what they still consider their ‘backyard’. – Well, all of this is true. Venezuela has indeed the world’s largest hydrocarbon reserves – and it is conveniently close to The US’s Texas refineries. However, the key reason for Washington forcing ‘regime change’ is that Venezuela has stopped selling her hydrocarbon in US dollars, and, may therefore become a risk for the US-dollar hegemony around the globe. That is a punishable violation for the empire. At least two heads of state were assassinated because they dared abandoning the unwritten and unlawful, but nevertheless US-imposed rule to sell their oil and gas in US-dollars, Saddam Hussein of Iraq and Muammar Gaddafi. Both had started trading their oil in other than US-dollar currencies – and were strong advocates for others to do likewise.

Looking Through the Screen at the World’s Suffering
15 minutes readED CURTIN—Awareness? I sit here looking through the screen that encloses the little porch where my table rests. MLK’s words reverberate in my mind as I watch a grey fox slink across the grass in search of prey. What is it about the love of money and the fear of death that so cripples people’s care and compassion? I know I don’t want to see that fox seize a screaming rabbit and worry (to kill by biting and shaking the throat; strangle) it to death. Unlike Forché, I have not physically seen the dead and mutilated bodies of Salvadorian victims of death squads, nor been threatened by them, as she was. Nevertheless, thanks to her and others like Manlio Argueta, I have seen them in my imagination and heard the screams, and they have haunted me. Ghosts.

He contacted a reporter about a matter of extreme importance that’s been shrouded in secrecy,” Radack said.
