The US and its accomplices, especially Britain, spent most of the 20th and much of the 21st centuries trying to smother Soviet communism, and now Russia’s reemergence as an independent power. Churchill, an abject and unapologetic colonialist and imperialist strongly advised “the West” to strangle the “Bolshevik baby” in its cradle. The next decades saw cold and hot wars—including the Western-tolerated buildup of a huge German fascist army with the express purpose of having such force defeat and smash the hated communists. Even before the Second World War was finished, he was advising, with plenty of American interest, the notion the USSR should be invaded and nuked. The Anglo-Americans knew all along that Russia would not abide by Washington’s hegemonic ambitions, or its savage capitalism forever mentality.

Intercept interview with Chomsky shows that neither can be trusted as genuine left opinion guides
58 minutes readP. GREANVILLE—n Intercept podcast by Jeremy Scahill (published Sept. 26) had an interesting and mighty revealing segment with Noam Chomsky, showing that neither Scahill nor his august guest—despite a respectable amount of cogent analysis—can be trusted to illumine left opinion on the great issues of the day, especially when it comes to US foreign policy, supposedly the forte of both discussants. This may sound harsh, unfair and even shocking to many on the left, as Scahill is often on target, spot on, until he goes off the rails. And then the glaring contradictions crop up. MICHAEL WELCH—The Russian threat appears to have become inflamed in the public consciousness with the ascendancy of Vladimir Putin to the presidency. President Putin has been accused of promoting, aiding and abetting Russian and pro-Russian terrorists in the east of Ukraine. He has been blamed along with the Assad government for the “ruthless bombing” of Syrian civilian targets. He supposedly intervened in the 2016 U.S. presidential election to the benefit of Republican candidate Donald Trump. He allegedly sent operatives to poison a former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter with a neurotoxin. Most maliciously, authorities invariably deflect criticism of U.S. policy by attempting to link dissenting publications with Russia. Given that the U.S. appears to be just as self-serving and law defying as Russia is accused of being, what is the reality behind the unrelenting anti-Russian propaganda campaign? That question is at the heart of this week’s installment of the Global Research News Hour.

Senior French Intel: Head of Donetsk, Zakharchenko, Was Assassinated by Ukraine Intelligence, with Support from US, UK
20 minutes readEven Gaddafi’s explosives’ specialists were trained and armed by former CIA operatives. They helped them to disguise booby traps as lamps, alarm clocks, vases, radios and even ashtrays. So, those who installed the bomb in Donetsk were US-trained, these smart bombs are their signature. Americans and Brits favour bombs when they want to kill somebody. Obviously, in this case, they also used a local mole who helped the group which actually set the booby trap.

Russia’s Military Operation in Syria: Three Years On
26 minutes readPETER KORZUN—Since the start of Russia’s operation, the Syria’s government has gone from the brink of collapse to near victory, with its control established control over the larger part of the country. It is firmly in power. Aleppo has been cleared of terrorists and control of Palmyra regained. This century, Russia’s victory in Syria is the only example of successful military operation achieved in a short period of time with positive results, paving the way for a negotiated solution, with the focus shifting to a political process. The time has come for diplomats, not guns, to talk.
