V is for Virtue

V does not stand for Vendetta, though that is what our political, military and business class will receive if they do not mend their criminal and inhumane ways. The People will “take arms against a sea of trouble” when they have nothing left to lose, which is fast approaching.

Our problems do not arise from our institutions or our Constitution. They arise solely from the men who inhabit them. Systems are not corrupt. Bureaucracy is not venal. Our woes in the last throes of empire are not the fault of antiquated ideas, whereby the Constitution is a “goddamned piece of paper,” but in the men whose character is lost to vanity and ignorance. Our job as citizens is to separate the venal, the vain and the vacuous, from the rare public servant who embodies Virtue.

And part with him when he goes wrong…

Because, almost without exception, our society and our “leaders” have become the embodiment of all a good, honorable and successful nation is not. Our people have become stupid and easily lied to. Indeed, we have less representation now for the people than we had under the British Crown. We have less say in government than any people of a Banana Republic. We are run roughshod by the greedy, murderous and cruel. War is a racket. Politicians are corrupt. Mass Media is Propaganda. And in this environment, The People are Sheep.

We live in a fascist state creeping steadily toward totalitarianism. The proof is in the great indifference of the people consumed with trivialities, superficialities and the mundane quest to get ahead against our fellow citizens in a make believe world of meritorious competition – also known as the Rat Race. Our war rhetoric of humanitarian intervention is transparently for illegal wars of aggression to pillage and plunder. Our two political parties are one party which preaches endless war and economic injustice. Call it the WarBucks Party.

Our Presidents are War Criminals. Our Congress a drunken Harlot. Our Judges are Cronies. Our CEOs are Psychopaths. And the People Dazed and Confused; always apologizing, justifying and excusing its sorry lot because we “live in the greatest country in the history of the world.” And, given the facts on the ground, if this isn’t a sign of brainwashing nothing is.

We have given over the integrity of paper ballots to hackable machines. Our election results cannot be trusted. We have given corporations the rights of man and the ability to whore the political process with unlimited and unaccountable money. We have surrendered a free press to a propaganda regime whose duty is to manufacture consent that slavery is freedom. While we wantonly murder people around the world, including our own citizens, our noses are rubbed in Celebrity Trivia and Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. We have given up our Constitutional rights of speech and assembly to restricted free speech “zones.” Protest needs permits. Our Inalienable Rights need government permission to exercise. Instead of Government deriving its existence by the consent of the people, the people live at the whim of the government. The Public is owned lock, stock and barrel by the Private. Our taxes go to pay the un-repayable debts of Pork and Empire instead of working toward the common good. The banks say they come first and people are an afterthought. The commonwealth is stolen by a hereditary aristocracy our Founders died to end. The country has become anathema to the ideals by which it was founded.    

So, unless you believe in the political equivalent of the Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus and Lone Gunmen, we have to admit that things in America have gone terribly awry and, in deed, have gone full circle and the only option we face as human beings under the thumb of tyrannical power is to rebel by any means we can to achieve the ends of our stolen inalienable rights. Life if cheap. Liberty draining away. Happiness a dream of smoke and mirrors.

And the only way we will succeed as a People, whether as a nation or of the world, is to instill the concept of Virtue amongst us.

What is virtue? Simply to be good and to do good. To do what is right rather than expedient. To practice the Golden Rule. It’s really quite simple in theory. We won’t agree on the forms and substance for the reconstituted USA, but we can agree that all people are deserving the same dignity and respect as ourselves. We can agree that a human by any other name is still a human. We can agree that fear and loathing does not lead to enlightenment.

And we can agree that our representative government has fallen like angels from heaven into disrepute, disrepair and distanced itself from the People as to be no use at all except as a private men’s club of vice and viciousness.

But what we must agree upon is that before we can right the wrong, correct the course and save the nation from its devolution to barbarism; We The People must make amends with each other, establish tranquility with each other and learn to love each other, even unto Jesus’ words to Love our Enemy before we can re-establish a government of, for and by The People. And until we do that we are complicit in the evil done in our name. Our Government rampages the world in the name of Freedom, while its people are enslaved through debt and force.

They don’t hate us because we are free, they hate us because we are hypocrites.

And until WE make the change through whatever means it takes to empower people over corporations and humanity over money and love over fear, we deserve whatever befalls us.

The greatness of our country lies in the distant past before we embarked upon Empire.

But there is greatness in our future if we hold to these self-evident truths:

That all people are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among People, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.
