Born in the "devil's own country", in 1939, of a WASP (white, Anglo-Saxon protestant) military family. Growing up I experienced the pains and indignities of US chauvinism and racism at home and abroad, its imperial domination, its brutal jingoistic wars.

Before I understood the essence of US imperialism, I joined the US Air Force, at 17, to fight the Soviet "commies" when they occupied Hungary, in 1956. Posted to a radar site in Japan, I witnessed approved segregated barracks at the Yankee base, and the imposition of racism in Japanese establishments. I protested and was tortured by my white “compatriots”, who held me down naked, sprayed DDT aflame over my pubic hairs, and then held me under snow. This, and the fact that we had orders to shoot down any Soviet aircraft over “our” territory in Japan—which never appeared—while we flew spy planes over the Soviet Union daily, led me to question American morality. ERIC SCHECHTER, Special Contributing Editor

Eric Schechter is an American mathematician, retired from Vanderbilt University with the title of Professor Emeritus. His interests started primarily in analysis but moved into mathematical logic. Schechter is best known for his 1996 book Handbook of Analysis and its Foundations, which provides a novel approach to mathematical analysis and related topics at the graduate level. In retirement he has become a full-time political activist and radical educator. His conversion to anti-capitalism in recent years transformed Eric’s life. By temperament a progressive and iconoclast, his study of social and environmental conditions, domestic and international, rapidly led him through various stages from standard liberalism to a far more radical critique of the corporate status quo, which he regards as unreformable.

Born in Belgrade, Serbia (1950), Stefan is U.S. citizen. Graduate of the University of Chicago and Indiana University School of Law. Member of several defense teams at the International Criminal Tribunal For the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY). Founder and president of NGO “Srebrenica Historical Project,” registered in the Netherlands and in Serbia. Currently engaged in research on events that took place in Srebrenica in July 1995. Rowan Wolf obtained her doctorate in Sociology from the University of Oregon and taught sociology for 22 years. Her specialized areas of interest are systems of inequality (particularly race, class, and sex); globalization; organizations; and culture and socialization.  She lives with her partner (Kelly), and their two canine family members. EDITOR'S NOTE: Due to acute health issues, resulting from a double lung transplant, Rowan resigned her job as Managing Editor on Nov. 19, 2016.  She is now primarily devoting her time to writing a book on her life experiences. A retired journalist, his latest novel is Three Russians (Punto Press). A lifelong social justice activist, Ed Duvin serves as Editor-at-Large for The Greanville Post and formerly Cyrano’s Journal Today, and also as a member of their editorial boards. His writings—often controversial—on politics, philosophy, and questions relating to the morality of human interactions with animals and nature have inspired generations of activists in the US and abroad. His characteristically low-key contributions to the humane movement, in particular, have been significant. In 1989, he wrote a landmark article that ignited the “no-kill” movement among humane societies. Until then, most shelters just gave animals a brief reprieve for adoption prior to being euthanized. John Rachel has a B. A. in Philosophy, has traveled extensively, is a songwriter, music producer, novelist, and a bi-polar humanist. Since 2008, when he first embarked on his career as a novelist, he has had eight fiction and two non-fiction books published. These range from three satires and a coming-of-age trilogy, to a political drama and now a crime thriller. The two non-fiction works were also political, his attempt to address the crisis of democracy and pandemic corruption in the governing institutions of America.  In the works is a creative non-fiction work, The Naked American. It is allegedly an account of author Rachel's travels since leaving America August 2006, but more likely the product of the voices in his head which have plagued him since puberty. A number of prominent publishers have declared that they will do everything in their power to make sure these new books never see the light of day. The author’s last permanent residence in America was Portland, Oregon. John Rachel now lives in a quiet, traditional, rural Japanese community, where he sets his non-existent watch by the thrice-daily ringing of sonorous temple bells, at a local Shinto shrine.

Rick Sterling was born and grew up in Vancouver Canada, he studied anthropology at Simon Fraser University and came to the US as an activist in 1976 after working in Africa where he got married and ended up staying.  Rick says: “With kids, had to get a real job so I studied electronics at Merritt College and Cogswell Polytechnical. After 25 years working in the high tech and aerospace industries I retired from my senior electronics engineering position at UC Berkeley Space Sciences Laboratory in 2011 (NASA and satellite work), so now I can work full time on progressive causes.  I have an interest in public education and activism to promote positive change. My skills include writing, presentations and outreach and consider myself a ‘self-starter’ able to lead and work with others.

Went to Middle East in summer 2007, part of Palestine Summer Encounter seeing the situation on the ground, meeting great Palestinian and Israeli organizations and individuals. Went to Honduras in summer 2011 as part of an international human rights delegation. We travelled around the country and met various organizations speaking about the aftermath of the 2009 coup. Returned to Honduras in November 2012 as part of human rights group monitoring the primary election. I am interested to bring more information on Latin America and Middle East to Contra Costa. The goal is to push for substantial change in US policy and building support for progressive organizations working for change in other countries.

Was a member of the MDPJC board for a few years (approx 2006 – 2010) and currently on the board of Marin Interfaith Task Force on the Americas (www.mitfamericas.org/about). I’m currently active or connected to the KPFA outreach committee, Rossmoor friends of KPFA club, Rossmoor Voices for Justice in Palestine, Palestine Solidarity Network, Middle East Study Group and Richmond Progressive Alliance.  I believe the Center needs to continue promoting peace messages in schools and the community. Believe it would be useful to encourage more people from the community to travel abroad and bring back / share their experiences and observations (Latin America, Middle East and beyond). Would like to see the Center take more active positions in opposition to the war machine, oil corporations, etc. and make more connections/coordination with other peace / justice groups.  Serving in the board since 2013.

Thierry Meyssan  is a French journalist and political activist, as well as political consultant, and President-founder of the Réseau Voltaire (Voltaire Network). Meyssan is the author of investigations into the extreme right-wing (particularly about the National Front Militias, which are the object of a parliamentary investigation and caused a separation of the extreme right-wing party), as well as into the Catholic Church (Opus Dei, for example). Meyssan's book 9/11: The Big Lie (L'Effroyable imposture) challenges the official account of events of the September 11 terrorist attacks. In recent times, he published several stories claiming Donald Trump is the victim of a "campaign that has been scientifically organized against the President of the United States", orchestrated by the American administration establishment and the world intelligence community. In November 2005, Thierry Meyssan presided over the Axis for Peace 2005 Colloquium, which gathered over 130 participants from 37 nations in order to discuss the international situation and call a people’s mobilization in favour of international law and world peace and against the neoconservative trend. Meyssan is currently living in Damascus, Syria. Michel Chossudovsky is an award-winning author, Professor of Economics (emeritus) at the University of Ottawa, Founder and Director of the Centre for Research on Globalization (CRG), Montreal, Editor of Global Research.  He has taught as visiting professor in Western Europe, Southeast Asia, the Pacific and Latin America. He has served as economic adviser to governments of developing countries and has acted as a consultant for several international organizations. Alexander Mercouris, founding editor of The Duran, is a London-based writer on international affairs with a special interest in Russia and law. ABIGAIL SUZANNE MARTIN

Abigail Suzanne Martin is an American citizen journalist and presenter. From 2015 to 2018 she hosted The Empire Files on teleSUR English, a network co-funded by the Venezuelan government. She was formerly the host of Breaking the Set on the network RT America, working from the Washington, D.C. bureau. Before hosting her own show, she had worked for two years as a correspondent for RT America..  Martin is also an artist and activist, and helped found the citizen journalism website Media Roots.  She serves on the board of directors for the Media Freedom Foundation which manages Project Censored. Martin co-directed 99%: The Occupy Wall Street Collaborative Film (2013). Abby Martin launched a new program, The Empire Files, in 2015. Martin directs the show, and journalist and activist Michael Prysner, produces it. The Empire Files is hosted by teleSUR, which is funded by several Latin American governments. Martin said "The show is totally independent of teleSUR ... We merely sell them the content; they have zero control over anything we do". The program was forced to shut their operations completely in August 2018, when wire connection was cut off to the USA, due to US sanctions against Venezuela, after having suffered heavy financial dificulties caused by "financial attacks" by the US government, according to Media Roots.

WILLIAM J ASTORE

William J. Astore is a retired lieutenant colonel (USAF) and professor of history who’s written for TomDispatch.com, Truthout, History News Network (HNN), Alternet, and Huffington Post among other sites.  He is the author or co-author of three books and numerous articles focusing on military history as well as the history of science, technology, and religion.  He is a co-founder of The Contrary Perspective and served as its editor and chief writer from 2013 through the end of 2015.

ANDREI MARTYANOV

Andrei Martyanov is an expert on Russian military and naval issues.  He was born in Baku, USSR in 1963. He graduated from the Kirov Naval Red Banner Academy and served as an officer on the ships and staff position of Soviet Coast Guard through 1990. He took part in the events in the  Caucasus which led to the collapse of the Soviet Union. In mid-1990s he moved to the United States where he currently works as Laboratory Director in a
