Radical media critic and former economist Patrice Greanville is The Greanville Post’s founding editor.

Besides TGP, Greanville also served as publisher for Cyrano’s Journal Today, currently an archival site, and as editorial director for Punto Press Publishing. Like many people deeply invested in the triumph of justice and compassion, he is an enemy of all forms of animal abuse and exploitation, dominionism, and a passionate defender of authentic democracy, all of which puts him well outside the sphere of “corporate life” and most respectable company. He considers such exile one of the greatest bargains of his life. He makes his home in New York.  Contact him at patriceg@greanvillepost.com

BRANFORD PERRY, Associate Editor

Branford Perry, as he puts it in jest, is “No. 4 man on the mast” of The Greanville Post, but in reality, given his broad functions, as TGP’s  Associate Editor, he’s the No. 3 in command, primarily in charge of articles routing, production, and social media outreach. Formerly a resident of London, and an engineer with an specialization in ecological safeguarding, he now makes his base of operations mostly in the Montpellier area, and travels frequently throughout Northern Europe and other parts.  He is founding editor of a personal blog, Branford Perry’s Hipokrisy.net, but his work on TGP has literally pre-empted focus on that site.  Shy and reserved, we’re still waiting for his mug shot. Contact Branford at branford.perry@greanvillepost.com .

PAUL EDWARDS, Associate Editor

Paul Edwards is a genuine Renaissance man, gifted with many talents and participant in many events and struggles of our tormented times. Our colleague Jeff Brown, who did a fine interview with him, sums it up thusly: “Paul’s life story is worthy of a biography: a rebel youth growing up, traveling and working around the world and then a long career as a Hollywood writer. Through it all, he has never lost his lifelong wrath against US imperialism and global capitalism, while seeking social and economic justice for humanity’s 99%…”

Jacques R. Pauwels is a people's historian. In the tradition pioneered by Marx and Engels, and continued by Michael Parenti,  Howard Zinn, Eric Hobsbawm, Leo Huberman, and others of similar merit, he writes history that is not only firmly grounded in truth but is aimed at liberating the mind from the claptrap of existing ruling class mythology. Pauwels has taught European history at the University of Toronto, York University, and the University of Waterloo. He lost his first job in 1961 for defending China's resumption of sovereignty over Tibet. He still annoys authorities by pointing out that the Chinese government has kept all its promises for the past 70 years while our government has broken them all.

THE SAKER

Swiss-born, but of Dutch-Russian parentage, The Saker is the nom de guerre of a leading and highly original geopolitical analyst who founded The Saker network of sites dedicated to global strategic analysis and commentary. The Saker, a committed anti-imperialist and antiwar activist, is eclectic in his political philosophy: “Personally, I reject the Left-Right reference system and consider myself an Orthodox “People’s Monarchist” (народный монархист) in the tradition of Lev TikhomirovFeodor DostoevskyIvan Solonevich and Ivan Ilyin. Just like the Russian philosopher Berdaev, rather than looking left or right, I rather look *up*! I also recognize myself in the notion of “Left of labor, Right of values” (Gauche du travail, droite des valeurs) of Alain Soral. My economics are: laissez-faire capitalism for the family and small business level, socialism for the corporation level and communism for strategic/national level sectors of the economy. All my info is 100% “open source”.  ( “My past experience with classified data tells me that it is either highly technical or time-critical but not otherwise better than open source information: 80% of all the good info is out there, in the open, it is just a matter of putting it together correctly.” ) (Read his full bio page here.)

NATHAN RICH

NATHAN RICH  (born February 13, 1982) is an American author, Scientology critic and content creator. He is currently an American expat living in China. He appeared on Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath alongside classmate Tara Reile about their experiences at the Scientology boarding school, the Mace-Kingsley Ranch School.  Since Rich supports Beijing in its struggle with Western disinformation, his Wikipedia page —controlled by the Western intelligence agencies—has been weaponised against him, and is filled with disparaging remarks about Rich (i.e., insinuations he lacks formal education, etc.) while presenting Rich's fact-based political statements in support of China regarding Taiwan, Hong Kong, Xinjiang's Uyghurs  and other issues in the news, as if Rich was in error.  The Wikipedia describes Rich as engaged in "China apologetics", which is stunningly cynical considering that a) what he says is corroborated by any impartial examination of the evidence, and b) almost all important coverage of international events is deformed to support Washington's and London's imperialist outlook on the world.

Freed of these burdens during the late seventies, he returned to the US and continued as a socialist organizer. His PhD in nuclear physics and his socialist outlook led him to advocate the expanded use of nuclear energy, despite the growing propaganda war against it. In 1995, this group received the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts. Presently, he is an Associate Professor in quantum chemistry at the University of Copenhagen. His 2003 book Information Theory and Evolution set forth the view that the phenomenon of life, including its origin and evolution, that including human cultural evolution, has it background situated over thermodynamics, statistical mechanics, and information theory. Avery’s parents were both born in the United States, in the state of Michigan, where they studied at the University of Michigan. His father studied medicine while his mother studied bacteriology. After graduation, his parents did research together at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Later, his father did research in a borderline area between physics and medicine with Arthur Holly Compton, discoverer of the "Compton effect", at the University of Chicago. In 1926, his father moved the family to Beirut, where his father worked as a professor of anatomy at the American University of Beirut. The family stayed in Beirut until the start of World War II. It was during these tumultuous years that John Scales Avery was born.

FRED REED

Fred Reed real oneFred Reed, who has referred to Oprah Winfrey as looking "like five hundred pounds of bear liver in a plastic bag," takes a jaundiced and highly irreverent view of all things sacred-journalism, marriage, affirmative action, federal scams, governmental uselessness, women, men, fellow reporters, and popular culture. On the other hand, he has a kind word for drunks, bar girls, and children. Neither a liberal nor a conservative-he describes these as "twin halves of the national lobotomy"-he is just Fred. He figures it is enough. Anything more would be multiple-personality disorder. Fred has spent many years doing things your mother wouldn't want you to do, such as living in alleys in Taipei, Bangkok, and Saigon, with some of the strangest people ever to crawl this weary earth. Once a war correspondent in Viet Nam and Cambodia, then for years a police reporter in places the media don't admit exist, he spent most of a decade writing a syndicated column on matters military. While he tends to write with wit, he has seen, he says, a lot of ugly things, and doesn't like the people responsible. He says so. Fred may charm or offend, but he'll keep your attention. "Funny, sharply observant and often deeply poignant, Fred Reed writes what a hell of a lot of Americans are thinking, but are afraid these days to say. He is delightfully beyond category for anyone with an open mind, which is probably why he lives in Mexico, far enough away that the politically correct of both camps cannot strangle him." --Joe Bageant, author of Deer Hunting with Jesus

ISRAEL SHAMIR

The unclassifiable iconoclast Israel Shamir is despised and virulently attacked as a self-hating Jew and professional antisemite, an "Holocaust denier", and other thoughtcrimes for his unrelenting attacks on Zionism, but he is also recognised as an internationally acclaimed radical political thinker, Internet columnist and writer. His comments about current affairs and their deeper meaning are published on his site www.israelshamir.net and elsewhere. They are also collected in three books, Galilee Flowers, Cabbala of Power and recently published Masters of Discourse available in English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Norwegian, Swedish, Italian, Hungarian etc. A native of Novosibirsk , Siberia, he moved to Israel in 1969, served as paratrooper in the army and fought in the 1973 war. After the war, he turned to journalism and writing. In 1975, Shamir joined the BBC and moved to London . In 1977-79 he lived in Japan . After returning to Israel in 1980, Shamir wrote for the Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz, and was the Knesset spokesman for the Israel Socialist Party (Mapam). He translated and annotated the cryptic works of S.Y. Agnon, the only Hebrew Nobel Prize winning writer, from the original Hebrew into Russian. In 2006 his mammoth annotated translation of a medieval Hebrew classic Sefer Yohassin (The Book of Lineage) was published by Zacuto Books. Shamir also translated the Odyssey, and selected chapters of Joyce’s Ulysses. But Palestine , its sad history and enchanting landscape remained his most important subject. His views were summed up in The Pine and the Olive, the story of Palestine/Israel, published in 1988 and republished in 2004, and became a cult book among the readers.  In 2004 he was received in the Orthodox Church of Jerusalem and Holy Land , being baptised Adam by Archbishop Theodosius Attalla Hanna. Shamir (60) lives in Jaffa and spends much time in Moscow and Stockholm ; he is father of three sons.

ARAM MIRZAEI (in his own words)

My name is Aram Mirzaei, I’m 30 years old and live somewhere in Europe. Originally, I hail from western Iran, a place that is deeply rooted in my heart. Ever since my teenage years, I’ve had a passion for history and politics, a trait I inherited from my mother who was an Iranian revolutionary. Naturally, this passion made me choose to study political science all the way up to my Master’s degree. Having supported my country against foreign threats my entire adult life, I became an activist for the Resistance Axis when the Syrian War broke out in 2011 and have combined my passion for writing and politics, to contribute to the propaganda fight that runs in parallel with the fighting on the ground.

In fact, Frank is not hesitant to sound off exactly what he thinks and believes, and he doesn’t beat around the bush. Mark Twain could be like that. So could Albert Einstein, both calmly speaking truth to power and making the corrupt elites squirm and look down at their shoes, avoiding the searing white light of unvarnished reality.  Not only is Mr. Scott a great conversationalist, he is an outstanding commentary writer. Since 2007, he has stayed busy, posting more than an article a week at http://legalienate.blogspot.hk/

RON RIDENOUR, Special Contributing Editor

Born in the "devil's own country", in 1939, of a WASP (white, Anglo-Saxon protestant) military family. Growing up I experienced the pains and indignities of US chauvinism and racism at home and abroad, its imperial domination, its brutal jingoistic wars.

Before I understood the essence of US imperialism, I joined the US Air Force, at 17, to fight the Soviet "commies" when they occupied Hungary, in 1956. Posted to a radar site in Japan, I witnessed approved segregated barracks at the Yankee base, and the imposition of racism in Japanese establishments. I protested and was tortured by my white “compatriots”, who held me down naked, sprayed DDT aflame over my pubic hairs, and then held me under snow. This, and the fact that we had orders to shoot down any Soviet aircraft over “our” territory in Japan—which never appeared—while we flew spy planes over the Soviet Union daily, led me to question American morality. ERIC SCHECHTER, Special Contributing Editor

Eric Schechter is an American mathematician, retired from Vanderbilt University with the title of Professor Emeritus. His interests started primarily in analysis but moved into mathematical logic. Schechter is best known for his 1996 book Handbook of Analysis and its Foundations, which provides a novel approach to mathematical analysis and related topics at the graduate level. In retirement he has become a full-time political activist and radical educator. His conversion to anti-capitalism in recent years transformed Eric’s life. By temperament a progressive and iconoclast, his study of social and environmental conditions, domestic and international, rapidly led him through various stages from standard liberalism to a far more radical critique of the corporate status quo, which he regards as unreformable.

RUSSEL BONNER BENTLEY, Donbas Chronicles

Most of our editors and contributors are gifted in many areas, but few merit the label of “polymath” as richly as our new Novorossiya correspondent, Russell Bentley, “Texac”. He has been called poet, musician, soldier, political activist, outlaw, smuggler, convict, fugitive, philosopher, lover, teacher and friend—and, indeed, he may be all those things, but his course is always guided by an unswerving commitment to the construction of a better world in which peace, genuine freedom, and social justice reign supreme. A native of Texas, Russell joined—at the tender age of 54— the Novorossiyan Armed Forces (NAF) to fight what he sees as the attack on the Donbass people by an illegitimate fascist entity: the Kiev regime installed and supported by the US after a thinly-veiled coup. His example evokes the deeds of the Lincoln Battalion, the American volunteers who fought in the Spanish Civil War. As his writing gifts abundantly prove, he also channels John Reed and Hemingway in a rare, seamless, package. Russell’s work at TGP can be found here and at TEXAC

ROWAN WOLF, Editor Emeritus

Rowan Wolf obtained her doctorate in Sociology from the University of Oregon and taught sociology for 22 years. Her specialized areas of interest are systems of inequality (particularly race, class, and sex); globalization; organizations; and culture and socialization.  She lives with her partner (Kelly), and their two canine family members. Rowan Wolf is Managing Editor of The Greanville Post, and was appointed Director of The Russia Desk, a specialized section of The Greanville Post, on Nov. 23, 2015.

Rowan’s email is rowanwolf@greanvillepost.com
EDITOR'S NOTE: Due to acute health issues, resulting from a double lung transplant, Rowan resigned her job as Managing Editor on Nov. 19, 2016.  She is now primarily devoting her time to writing a book on her life experiences. Her tenure was marked by great improvements on TGP, a refinement in our editorial processing routines, and a simply prodigious amount of time invested in meeting the myriad demands of a complex publication like The Greanville Post. That she was able to carry this enormous load honorably and with characteristic lucidity, moral rectitude and fairness to all parties is a testament to her revolutionary determination.

GAITHER STEWART

Gaither Stewart served as The Greanville Post  European correspondent, Special Editor for Eastern European developments, and general literary and cultural affairs correspondent. A retired journalist, his latest novel is Three Russians (Punto Press). He’s also the author of several other books, including the Europe Trilogy (The Trojan Spy, Lily Pad Roll and Time of Exile), all of which have been published by Punto Press. These are thrillers that have been compared to the best of John le Carré, focusing on the work of Western intelligence services, the stealthy strategy of tension, and the gradual encirclement of Russia, a topic of compelling relevance in our time. He makes his home in Rome, with wife Milena. Gaither can be contacted at gaithers@greanvillepost.com. His latest assignment is as Counselling Editor with the Russia Desk. ED DUVIN

A lifelong social justice activist, Ed Duvin serves as Editor-at-Large for The Greanville Post and formerly Cyrano’s Journal Today, and also as a member of their editorial boards. His writings—often controversial—on politics, philosophy, and questions relating to the morality of human interactions with animals and nature have inspired generations of activists in the US and abroad. His characteristically low-key contributions to the humane movement, in particular, have been significant. In 1989, he wrote a landmark article that ignited the “no-kill” movement among humane societies. Until then, most shelters just gave animals a brief reprieve for adoption prior to being euthanized. Today, most shelters—not just in the US and developed nations—have banned euthanasia from their normal practices. Many call him the “movement’s conscience”. His role as documentarian essentially started when he, and two other journalists - David Murro and Eric Piper - documented the reality of what was happening in Cambodia after the fall of Pol Pot. In 2006, the photos and reports produced were turned into a film "Year Zero." More articles and documentaries followed on atrocities as diverse as Australia's treatment of  its indigenous peoples, to East Timor, and Palestine. After a lifetime of distinguished work, Mr. Pilger continues to be an outspoken critic of the corporate media, and of  Western imperialism.

VANESSA BEELEY, Contributing Author

Vanessa Beeley is a brave and indispensable British antiwar/anti-imperialist citizen journalist and political activist specializing on Middle East affairs, with a focus on Syria. As a person of integrity who tells the truth about this critical area, she is constantly maligned by the Western disinformation machine, which has the audacity—probably projecting its own vices— to call Beeley a "conspiracy theorist and disinformer." This is indeed the laughable attempt by the imperialist services controlled Wikipedia to silence important historical witnesses not just by underhandedly banning them from mainstream media platforms, but by also undermining their credibility through false bio blurbs like these (bold italic ours):

"Vanessa Beeley is a British activist and blogger. She is known for sharing conspiracy theories and disinformation about the Syrian civil war and about the Syrian volunteer organisation the White Helmets.Wikipedia "

JOHN RACHEL, Distinguished Collaborator

John Rachel has a B. A. in Philosophy, has traveled extensively, is a songwriter, music producer, novelist, and a bi-polar humanist. Since 2008, when he first embarked on his career as a novelist, he has had eight fiction and two non-fiction books published. These range from three satires and a coming-of-age trilogy, to a political drama and now a crime thriller. The two non-fiction works were also political, his attempt to address the crisis of democracy and pandemic corruption in the governing institutions of America.  In the works is a creative non-fiction work, The Naked American. It is allegedly an account of author Rachel's travels since leaving America August 2006, but more likely the product of the voices in his head which have plagued him since puberty. A number of prominent publishers have declared that they will do everything in their power to make sure these new books never see the light of day. The author’s last permanent residence in America was Portland, Oregon. John Rachel now lives in a quiet, traditional, rural Japanese community, where he sets his non-existent watch by the thrice-daily ringing of sonorous temple bells, at a local Shinto shrine.

Vice-Chair, International Issues and Development, Mount Diablo Peace and Justice Center

Rick Sterling was born and grew up in Vancouver Canada, he studied anthropology at Simon Fraser University and came to the US as an activist in 1976 after working in Africa where he got married and ended up staying.  Rick says: “With kids, had to get a real job so I studied electronics at Merritt College and Cogswell Polytechnical. After 25 years working in the high tech and aerospace industries I retired from my senior electronics engineering position at UC Berkeley Space Sciences Laboratory in 2011 (NASA and satellite work), so now I can work full time on progressive causes.  I have an interest in public education and activism to promote positive change. My skills include writing, presentations and outreach and consider myself a ‘self-starter’ able to lead and work with others.

Went to Middle East in summer 2007, part of Palestine Summer Encounter seeing the situation on the ground, meeting great Palestinian and Israeli organizations and individuals. Went to Honduras in summer 2011 as part of an international human rights delegation. We travelled around the country and met various organizations speaking about the aftermath of the 2009 coup. Returned to Honduras in November 2012 as part of human rights group monitoring the primary election. I am interested to bring more information on Latin America and Middle East to Contra Costa. The goal is to push for substantial change in US policy and building support for progressive organizations working for change in other countries.

Was a member of the MDPJC board for a few years (approx 2006 – 2010) and currently on the board of Marin Interfaith Task Force on the Americas (www.mitfamericas.org/about). I’m currently active or connected to the KPFA outreach committee, Rossmoor friends of KPFA club, Rossmoor Voices for Justice in Palestine, Palestine Solidarity Network, Middle East Study Group and Richmond Progressive Alliance.  I believe the Center needs to continue promoting peace messages in schools and the community. Believe it would be useful to encourage more people from the community to travel abroad and bring back / share their experiences and observations (Latin America, Middle East and beyond). Would like to see the Center take more active positions in opposition to the war machine, oil corporations, etc. and make more connections/coordination with other peace / justice groups.  Serving in the board since 2013.

GARY BRECHER

Self-described war nerd Gary Brecher knows he’s not alone, that there’s a legion of fat, lonely Americans, stuck in stupid, paper-pushing desk jobs, who get off on reading about war because they hate their lives. But Brecher writes about war, too. War Nerd collects his most opinionated, enraging, enlightening, and entertaining pieces. Part war commentator, part angry humorist àla Bill Hicks, Brecher inveighs against pieties of all stripes — Liberian generals, Dick Cheney, U.N. peacekeepers, the neo-cons — and the massive incompetence of military powers. A provocative free thinker, he finds much to admire in the most unlikely places, and not always for the most pacifistic reasons: the Tamil Tigers, the Lebanese Hezbollah, the Danes of 1,000 years ago, and so on, across the globe and through the centuries. Crude, scatological, un-P.C., yet deeply informed, Brecher provides a radically different, completely unvarnished perspective on world affairs. Often, simply the truth unvarnished.

Meyssan's book 9/11: The Big Lie (L'Effroyable imposture) challenges the official account of events of the September 11 terrorist attacks. In recent times, he published several stories claiming Donald Trump is the victim of a "campaign that has been scientifically organized against the President of the United States", orchestrated by the American administration establishment and the world intelligence community. In November 2005, Thierry Meyssan presided over the Axis for Peace 2005 Colloquium, which gathered over 130 participants from 37 nations in order to discuss the international situation and call a people’s mobilization in favour of international law and world peace and against the neoconservative trend. Meyssan is currently living in Damascus, Syria.
