ALL CAPTIONS AND PULL QUOTES BY THE EDITORS NOT THE AUTHORS

Escobar is a realist as all or most individual observers are of West-Asia. Not all Israelis are monsters and there are national sensibilities on how they react to criticism. One of the most terrifying acts for an Israeli is that of hostage taking as the loss of personal freedom. If and when (one hopes) that all hostages have been freed by Hamas, then hopefully there will be some understanding of what Israel did to Gaza. The mad superstructure of their society may no longer be tolerated.
As for Trump, he wants peace in West Asia aiming of it to be a political bloc against Iran and China. The Abraham accords are meant to create a sort of cooperation between through European colonialism created borders. It would in a way be a nod towards tribalism. But peace is a dangerous sword as JFK experienced.
And despite the overabundant expressions of compassion for the hostages in Gaza, the ones that were released appeared hale and well, healthy in mind and body, even well fed. One wonders if any irony is recognized by the Israelis who ignore the suffering of the Palestinians. While of course the ridiculous US television propaganda is loudly commiserating with the torture and horrors these hostages have endured.
