PRECIS
The Origins and Nature of Fascism: Gabriel Rockhill
First streamed Feb 13, 2025
Prof. Rockhill presents an in-depth overview of fascism, stressing that this ideology far from being defeated in WW2, actually survived and prospered thanks to the protection of the West’s intel services, chiefly the CIA and MI6, who offered prominent Nazis ratlines (with Vatican assistance) to escape to the US, Canada and Latin America, and literally integrated many of these fascists in their ideological, intelligence, and military networks. As a result, fascism, which usually exists semi-submerged, side by side with “liberal democracy,” and simply moves almost seamlessly to replace it when capitalism is threatened by a serious crisis and pro-worker mobilizations, is now clearly thriving again across many key nations in the so-called “collective West”. It must be noted that the re-emergence of fascism, or heavy right-wing authoritarianism (i.e., Orban in Hungary, Le Pen in France, AfD in Germany, etc.) is not exactly the result of a defeat of a genuine left program, but of liberal authoritarian globalist regimes implementing equally anti-worker, pro-war, pro-corporate right-wing policies of imperialist domination at home and abroad. It’s clear at this point that the destruction of the Left in the US, and later, in much of Europe, and its replacement with a fake left that eventually totally buried the class struggle, replacing it with a sanctimonious culture war centred on individual identity rights instead of collective action, contributed greatly to the political confusion still paralysing much pro-worker organising. This dossier is invaluable in drawing a clear anatomy of fascism, covering its historiography, social roots, and diverse “national” manifestations, from the “Croix de Feu” in France, the Falangists in Spain, Germany’s Nazis, etc., to the KKK and the American Legion in the US. It is imperative, notes Rockhill, that people who aspire to genuine democracy, the defeat of fascism, and a government controlled by the working class, should do everything in their power to educate and mobilise their fellows before the freedom to do so is drowned in dictatorial violence from the Right.
