This is seen in issue after issue. Radical bourgeois feminists, for example, taught women in the 1980s that their “natural” enemy was men, not the ruling elites. Bourgeois feminism ended up subverting women’s power. • Same with the “woke” anti-racist movement. Capitalism, in fact, needs racism; it is one of the ideologies fuelling and justifying colonialism and the ruthless expropriation of people around the globe, often using racist imperial soldiers who come from the exploiting country’s working class.
MAIN EDITORS—According to the collected statistics, 26% of Ukrainian families with one child and 39% families with two children (4.4 and 6.6 million correspondingly) are struggling to survive whilst living below the poverty line. Poverty leaves no other option to many people except providing sex services for rich and wealthy foreign guests. A 2008 research of the Ukrainian sex workers’ lifestyle revealed that 39% of them do not use condoms regularly and that 22% are drug users.
CHRIS HEDGES—Woke ideology is pervasive in liberal institutions, especially universities, but does it further and hamper the liberal values and inclusiveness it purports to advocate? It seeks to transform society through what Christian Parenti calls the moralizing micropolitics of politicized etiquette. It is fixated on the politics of language and symbols, the sins of cultural appropriation and misnaming and calls for centering historically oppressed groups. It advocates identity politics, prioritizing race, gender, indigeneity, sexual orientation, physical disability, mental health diagnoses, immigration status and socioeconomic status over political content. Woke discourse, Parenti writes, “is imbued with a therapeutic mentality expressed in safety-obsessed incantations about harm, trauma, healing, care and doing the work. Personal struggles take precedent over political struggles.
ANDRAJIT—The reason the war questions are emerging now is that Americans are dying. This nominally raises the stakes. But which Americans? Three Black soldiers have just died in Syria/Jordan and the ‘volunteer’ army is primarily made up of debt slaves. Rich people’s children don’t get drafted so, fundamentally, what do they care, besides thanking these people for their ‘service’ while gutting their veterans services? Do these deaths count as war if the ruling class doesn’t actually give a shit?
