GEORGE BURCHETT—Karl Rove’s “we” – history’s actors – no doubt include those G.W. Bush called “the crazies in the basement”: the neo-cons, who scripted, produced and staged the disasters that are Iraq and Afghanistan. Under Obama, they morphed into “humanitarian interventionists” (under the R2P label – Responsibility To Protect) and added Libya, Syria, Ukraine, Yemen, to the list of neo-con wars and ‘interventions’. As Rove says, “we’re history’s actors and you” – that is the rest of us – can “study what we do.”
The question is then: are we content to just study the reality the ‘reality creators’ create for us, or can we do something about it and perhaps create another reality?

ERIC ZUESSE—The world that Truman started on that day in 1945 has shaped the world that we all live in today. Truman’s decisions shaped it by enormously increasing wars and deaths and war-dismemberments and destructions and refugees, and especially by creating (and most especially by the continued cooperation of all U.S. Presidents since the time of GHW Bush who secretly decided to continue the Cold War on the U.S. side) the danger that we all now face, of a nuclear Armageddon.

Instead of negotiating with Russia, NATO continued moving closer to Russia and building up heavy forces in Ukraine. These forces were poised to move into the separatist areas of Eastern Ukraine and put an end to their independence effort. There were rumors or indications that Ukraine would move against the separatists at the end of January or the beginning of February 2022. In any event, Russia struck first and launched a “Special Military Operation” (SMO) against the Ukrainian forces on February 24, 2022. Thus began the “consequences” that Russia had warned about.
