Unbridled arrogance, compulsive ethnocentrism, and an unchallenged belief in their country's goodness (despite a colossal record of crimes and deliberate evil, not to mention their ubiquitousness), have made Americans insufferable to many people around the globe, people, however, who lack the American empire's tools of international intrusiveness. Not surprising, then, that critics would crop up, using a tool ironically also first mass developed by the Americans, the Internet, and later its bastard child, social media. The current anonymous critic, apparently an Anglosphere person, presents here a valuable down payment on what is in reality a monumental job, cataloging and critiquing the cultural and political roots of American's civic passivity, the nation's disgusting narcissism, and, equally rankling, imbecility.
Many of the sins the speaker mentions, doubtless, originate in America's ruling class' devious pandering to ordinary Americans, a nonstop barrage of adulation long delivered by all engines of available propaganda, designed to foster boundless narcissism in the population, while making the masses (who are essentially politically crippled and easily distracted, as the obsession with professional sports easily demonstrates) believe they actually rule "the indispensable nation"—as Obama and other professional liars frequently intone.
A main object of this sick manipulation has been, of course, to secure the masses' passive approval and endorsement for the nation's perennial imperialist goals, including global hegemony at any cost, goals which are naturally never honestly explained since the honesty would quickly destroy the usual claims to virtue. In a nation whose vaunted democracy has been weak at best, and non-existent at most important junctures, no area has been more lacking in actual democracy than US foreign policy. This fact was recognised many decades ago by Salvador de Madariaga, a keen observer of American reality. Speaking about the almost always misunderstood Monroe Doctrine, Madariaga explained its hold on Americans thusly:
I only know two things about the Monroe Doctrine: one is that no American I have met knows what it is; the other is that no American I have met will consent to its being tampered with. That being so, I conclude that the Monroe Doctrine is not a doctrine but a dogma, for such are the two features by which you can tell a dogma. But when I look closer into it, I find that it is not one dogma, but two, to wit: the dogma of the infallibility of the American President and the dogma of the immaculate conception of American foreign policy.
In sum an eloquent and deservedly impassioned denunciation of America's prevailing stupidity, and its inevitable terrible effects across the world. That said, beware of what I perceive to be some Eurocentric liberal/bourgeois hatred for "authoritarianism", which in our day denotes a veiled reference to Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping or Iranian leaders, the mark of fake leftism. —PG
