  1. I just listened to the interview here with Dr. John Ackerman, Professor of Law at Mexico University and major journalist about the chances of the Left candidate Andres Moreno Lopez Obrador, who at this moment is highly favored to break the PRI tradtion of electoral fraud to win elections for nearly 80 years. Ackerman estimates that because of the fraud threat, itself institutionalized, as is the governing PRI party, Lopez Obrador (known as AMLO) would need at least a majority plus 15% vote in order to make his eventual electoral victory stick. I am particularly curious about the outcome. In 1966, I had the opportunity to meet personally Lopez Obrador at a mass meeting in Mexico City, introduced to him by mutual friends. Int that period, as a leader of the Partido Revolucionaria Democratica (PRD) he spoke of social ideals using left wing language. That did not work for him in national elections in 2006. In 2012 elections he modified and softened his program but still did not win. Dr. Ackerman points out here that he has now managed to combine the two ideological views in a new party, Juntos Haremos Historia, combining the center left and center right groups, and as such has also captured the support of Northern Mexico, tradtionally of the governing right.
