No question about it, the Russians are definitely not conducting this war as if it were a war for survival like the fighting was on the Eastern Front during WWII. The Russians are conducting this war more like the way kings did during the 17th-19th centuries, where wars were effectively lawsuits carried out through military means by one nation against another for some perceived wrong, insult or other grievance, and where the end goal was a diplomatic settlement rather than unconditional surrender and total defeat of the enemy and its population.
