ELINA XENOPHONTOS—Plagued by the contradictions of capitalism that have generated the current economic, military and political crisis of the US — it turns to its allies in order to export the costs of its war. Albeit its European NATO partners have politically defied the US, behind the scenes it has de facto gathered whatever remains of its military arsenal, in the Eastern Mediterranean. This places the European Armada within a close range to the Strait of Hormuz, potentially setting the stage for what its leadership claims to be “defensive operations.”

This rhetoric of European bourgeois politicians merely serves as a mechanism to obfuscate the masses into believing that they want no part of this war — thus controlling the narrative. However the strategic position of the EU’s military assets, and the aim of potentially and conditionally extending Operation Aspides to the Strait of Hormuz — places them in direct opposition to Iranian military aims.

That said, the question then becomes, is Delcy Rodriguez and her entourage really trustworthy, true to the Bolivarian project, or is she one of Maduro’s betrayers and secret political tools for the Empire? Her rather curious, respectful and  conciliatory tone toward Trump, right in the wake of an outrageous violation of Venezuela’s sovereignty by the Empire, and a torrent of loud arrogant proclamations, is certainly suspicious and downright distasteful.

ELINA XENOPHONTOS—By fuelling the drug cartel industry in Latin America, both directly and indirectly — this also provided the U.S with the requisite pre-text by which to perpetually intervene within the internal affairs of Latin American states, claiming “national security threats.” This is not too dissimilar to the way in which the U.S has historically armed and funded Al Qaeda as well as other extremist groups in West Asia, in order to bring about regime change or combat communism — only to then use the same groups they funded, as pretext to justify further involvement in the region.

E. XENOPHONTOS—Anyone who claims that the Iran – Israel ceasefire is indicative of the U.S acknowledging Iran’s superiority in West Asia and as such, its desire to back down from a full-scale war with Iran — exhibits a fundamental lack of understanding as to the greater geopolitical material realities of the world, and most notably, how imperialism operates. These are the very same people who argued that a war would not be declared against Iran, and who similarly stated that Trump would not bomb Iran.
