VANESSA BEEELEY—On Sunday, August 27, SDF [US Kurdish Contras] imposed a curfew in Hasakah city [north-east Syria], cutting off main roads and carrying out raids on civilians homes in the “Nashwa – Villas” neighborhood.

Many SDF members armed with various types of medium machine guns and military vehicles took part amid high security alert. SDF obligated civilians through loudspeakers to close their shops and forced them to stay in their homes without mentioning the reasons. They announced later the launching of “Strengthening Security” campaign to pursue ISIS cells in Deir Ezzor.

JOSUE MICHELS—n age of relative freedom took a major setback on August 25, the day the European Union’s draconian Digital Services Act (dsa) went into force. In the future, this measure could be used to ban articles such as this one. But much more than banning “disinformation” and “hate speech,” the law is set to ban any illegal content, services or activities. While the dsa is combating some filth and corruption American companies allow and promote, it is also setting the scene for a system of absolute state control over the Internet.

EDITORS—The US and its vassal nations are rapidly becoming a “Walking Dead” country as the virus of capitalism accelerates the rot in its core institutions. Now, after a gradual, decades-long, greed-driven process of self-deindustrialisation, the imperial core is mired in an endless cycle of corruption and exploitation of the badly misinformed citizenry, along with endless imperialist wars sold to the population as necessary in the name of the loftiest values. Stunning hypocrisy is indeed the Empire’s oxygen.

PEPE ESCOBAR—According to Damascus, Syria’s energy sector as a whole was robbed by an astonishing $107 billion between 2011 and 2022 by a toxic mix of US occupation, “coalition” bombing, and theft or looting by terrorist and separatist gangs. 

There are no less than a dozen US military bases in Syria – some bigger than the proverbial lily pads (less than 10 acres, valued at less than $10 million), all of them de facto illegal and certainly not recognized by Damascus. The fact that 90 percent of Syria’s oil and gas is concentrated east of the Euphrates in areas controlled by the US and its Kurdish proxies makes Empire’s job much easier. 

THE JIMMY DORE SHOW—The Maui town of Lahaina and surrounding areas have been absolutely devastated by wildfires, with horrifying scenes of charred out buildings and cars as well as video of residents escaping the flames by entering the ocean circulating online. The cause of the fires remains unknown, with varying blame being attributed to climate change, a nearby hurricane and arson.
