[A] salt water powered car? Seems like science fiction, but read on:
This car uses a electrolyte flow cell power system that is newly certified for use on Europe’s roads. They call it, the Quant e-Sportlimousine, made its debut in the 2014 Geneva motor show. Not only does it run on salt water, which is freakin’ incredible in and of itself, but it’s said to be able to top 217 miles per hour.
After inspection, the German TÜV Süd in Munich gave it the go ahead to be tested on European roads. The company is now preparing to produce the series.
So how does it work? Well, the flow cell system that powers the vehicle’s four electric motors derives energy from the electrochemical reaction created by two electrolyte solutions. The electricity is then stored and distributed when needed by super capacitors.
This definitely looks like the car of the future. What are your thoughts on this? Would you drive one?
