Brilliant! I’m a vegan too — practically, as I am a lacto-vegetarian — have been since early childhood. Couldn’t stand them ‘beasties’ landing up on people’s plates .. so a thumbs up for this spunky cowgirl! — Oh, and for her man — a man she has every right to be proud of and so, so deserving of her love and he of hers…
We are all celebrating this small but hugely symbolic victory for the animals, especially bovines, so brutally persecuted by humans.
This is no miracle. It is an aberration, one which reflects the stranglehold of christian dominion. It is the exception that proves the rule…in a nation rooted in genesis:
Genesis 9:1-3 “The fear and dread of you shall rest on every animal of the earth, and on every bird of the air, on everything that creeps on the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; into your hand they are delivered. Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you; and just as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.'”
The compassionate among us – a small minority – are desperate for any reason to hope… but hope does not come from the words or actions of even the most enlightened in a society dominated by genesis…
The real miracle is that In India, in an entire community – the Jain community – there are no ranchers… The Jain religion prohibits any trade or profession that harms animals or humans. The ideal of AHIMSA, which means no harm is sacred to this community The miracle of ahimsa has taken root in the Hindu religion as well, so that 400 million hindus who are vegetarian.
There have been great minds and thinkers in the west. To name a few Einstein, Isaac Bashevis Singer, Plutarch, Pythagoras, and Leonardo da Vinci. Their wisdom has been consistently suppressed. Words of kindness are easily dismissed:
“But for the sake of some little mouthful of flesh we deprive a soul of the sun and light, and of that proportion of life and time it had been born into the world to enjoy.” ~ Plutarch
These words have gone unheeded… stomped out by the sacred violence of dominion. Words of compassion and wisdom are shouted down by the enforcers of dominion, with all the authority they can muster – religous authority. Ahimsa will not take root in a nation that pays homage to dominion, in a nation where the judeo.christian heritage is mainstream. In a nation where ahimsa, sanctity for life, both animal and human is taboo, where animals are commodities for human benefit, pleasure, endeavors – the cycle of violence cannot be broken by words from philosophers, artists, writers, geniuses. or lone outlier individuals.. The cycle of violence so cherished by the semitic religions will end outside of this bloody tradition, with its excuses and rationalizations for harming animals. Dominion must be repudiated along with the enforcers of the genesis mandate. The cruelty will only end when dominion is replaced by ahimsa:
“For there is nothing inaccessible for death.
All beings are fond of life, hate pain, like pleasure,
shun destruction, like life, long to live. To all life
is dear.” Jain Acharanga Sutra.
“These words of the venerable Mahavir found in the
Acharanga Sutra are some of the profoundest ever found in a religious scripture. They are a result of a
tremendous but simple spiritual discovery: all life is
holy, sacred or God-given. Life, therefore, has
intrinsic values – and all that lives has an interest
in living.” Reverend Andrew Linsey
In dominion usa, slaughter is a sacred biblical right…
In India the cow is holy. The indian state of Rajasthan has 644 guashalas (cow sanctuaries)… The depth and magnitude of cow protection in India can be understood by viewing just one gaushala in southern india which protects and cares for 4300 cows:

It is not possible to expect that the rescue of 39 cows from a Texas ranch in a society that vilifies the sanctity of animal lives, will result in the expanse of compassion inspired by AHIMSA?
