PATRICK MARTIN—The damage inflicted on American society by constant war and deepening social inequality has found expression in an endless series of events like the mass shooting in Las Vegas. With only 5 percent of the world’s population, the US accounts for 30 percent of the mass shootings. And the scale of such horrors is increasing: the four worst mass shootings, in terms of casualty toll, and six of the seven worst, have taken place since 2007.

The Best Definition of Donald Trump We Have Found
In his zeal to prove to his antagonists in the War Party that he is as bloodthirsty as their champion, Hillary Clinton, and more manly than Barack Obama, Trump seems to have gone “play-crazy” -- acting like an unpredictable maniac in order to terrorize the Russians into forcing some kind of dramatic concessions from their Syrian allies, or risk Armageddon. However, the “play-crazy” gambit can only work when the leader is, in real life, a disciplined and intelligent actor, who knows precisely what actual boundaries must not be crossed. That ain’t Donald Trump -- a pitifully shallow and ill-disciplined man, emotionally handicapped by obscene privilege and cognitively crippled by white American chauvinism. By pushing Trump into a corner and demanding that he display his most bellicose self, or be ceaselessly mocked as a “puppet” and minion of Russia, a lesser power, the War Party and its media and clandestine services have created a perfect storm of mayhem that may consume us all.— Glen Ford, Editor in Chief, Black Agenda Report

In the end violence comes home to roost… When people are taught to disrespect life, to objectify living beings it is the beginning of all violence. The author is astonished when Trump speaks of scriptures…. but should not have been…. the scriptures of the semitic religious tradition contains the seed of violence. All three of these religions sanctify the right to slaughter and exploit animals with some of the cruelest words written in religious scriptures:
Genesis 9:1-3 “The fear and dread of you shall rest on every animal of the earth, and on every bird of the air, on everything that creeps on the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; into your hand they are delivered. Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you; and just as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.”
These words set in motion a chain of violence which begins with the objectification of an entire class of living beings who are non-human animals. With an ethic in place that justifies and condones violence to the weakest and most defenseless among us, it is no wonder that those who have been indoctrinated with this ethic find it so easy to kill with abandon. Those most prone to letting loose with violence here in the USA, appear to be white, christian males. endowed with all the privilege and power of genesis to destroy life. They are the top of the dominion hierarchy, above women, above non-christians and above animals. Some of the most prominent while male christians to go on a killing spree include: the sandy hook shooter who hunted as child, the Colorado cinema shooter who vivisected animals for neurology studies, Anders Breivik a hunter who killed to preserve christian dominance, and Tim McVeigh.
Young children are taught to hunt in Christian Youth Hunting Ministries throughout the USA. They are taught early to objectify the other, the non-human animal, as the kill defenseless, harmless animals with pride. Many grow up to become avid trophy hunters, some go on to kill the infidel in foreign lands. One thing is clear when children are taught that animal lives have no value, their empathy for other living beings is destroyed, making it easier to go on a killing spree with righteous fervor.
It is not just the words of genesis that lead to violence, but myths that obsess over violence and torture that effect young minds. Such sadistic stories cause trauma and fear in young children, which in the alienated may translate into sadism & random acts of violence:
“A note to all happy families gathering around tables with a centerpiece of a murdered innocent – enjoy.
Apparently God thought no more of his “only begotten son” than a piece of meat – for, after all, he had his only son tortured and crucified because he was pissed at Adam and Eve and some of their offspring – so – Jesus is now heroically called “the lamb of god” and that’s ok with most Christians. Kill the human “lamb of god,” then eat the human “lamb of god” at communion time while crossing yourself, and then to celebrate Easter, go take a living, breathing, real baby lamb and eat that, too. Good killing and Good Eating.
P.S. If no baby lambs are available at your local market, and your neighbor farmer won’t sell you a baby lamb, a pig will do.” – name withheld for fear of repercussions ,
If we want to stop objectifying humans, we must first stop objectifying animals. We must recognize them as living being, with inherent value in their own lives, who must be allowed to remain free from human harm. As this is not possible within the semitic religious tradition, we must turn to another tradition for wisdom and compassion. That tradition is the AHIMSA tradition of the Jain religion, inspired by words that recognize the sanctity of the lives of ALL living beings:
“All life is sacred and everyone has a right to live fearlessly to their maximum potential. Living beings do not have any fear from those who have taken the vow of ahimsa.”…
We must stop teaching children to kill animals with moral impunity and temper the urge to kill rather than encourage it:
Ahimsa is derived from the Sanskrit verb root hims, which means “desirous to kill,” and the prefix a- is negation. So a-himsa means literally “lacking any desire to kill,”d
Only when the cruel ethic of dominion is rescinded will there be an end to all the genesis inspired violence.
“No society that feeds its children on tales of
successful violence can expect them not to believe that
violence in the end is rewarded” Margaret Mead
