David Swanson, one of 100 activists and intellectuals that sent an open letter calling on Senator Bernie Sanders to finally tackle the US war budget, said “It’s incoherent to have a public policy that ignores over 60 percent of federal discretionary spending” that goes to the military. “He is in the right place on ending the US war in Yemen,” said Swanson, publisher of the influential web site WarIsACrime.org, but otherwise talks “as if the military doesn’t exist.”

The Best Definition of Donald Trump We Have Found
In his zeal to prove to his antagonists in the War Party that he is as bloodthirsty as their champion, Hillary Clinton, and more manly than Barack Obama, Trump seems to have gone “play-crazy” — acting like an unpredictable maniac in order to terrorize the Russians into forcing some kind of dramatic concessions from their Syrian allies, or risk Armageddon.However, the “play-crazy” gambit can only work when the leader is, in real life, a disciplined and intelligent actor, who knows precisely what actual boundaries must not be crossed. That ain’t Donald Trump — a pitifully shallow and ill-disciplined man, emotionally handicapped by obscene privilege and cognitively crippled by white American chauvinism. Let’s get some synergy going here. If the Sunrise Movement (which is POTENTIALLY a great peace movement, because peace is essential to a Green New Deal) is REALLY serious about the GND–and BIG-TIME media coverage–let them protest Bernie Sanders as they did Pelosi. I’ve already proposed this in an e-mail to David Swanson.
I’ll probably write a follow-up to my current Greanville Post piece (about the potential of Sunrise for peace activists) in which I propose the Sanders protest.
