Trump Silent on Kiev's Terrorism, Reveals Complicity and a Desire for War

Since 2022, Ukrainian terror attacks have killed over 6,000 Russian civilians. Trump won't condemn Kiev's terrorism, making clear that his 'peace' plan is a fraud. As usual, double standards.

Trump: Massively ignorant and devious. And seemingly unpredictable—up to a point. (TGP AI)

As Russian forces liberate the Kursk region, the grisly reality of Ukrainian occupation is very clear — possibly hundreds of elderly and infirm civilians executed in their homes by U.S. armed troops. The evidence is overwhelming, yet you won’t hear about it in U.S. or European media.

How has Trump reacted? Did he condemn the Ukrainian terrorists as he condemns terrorists in the Middle East? Not at all. Instead, Trump appealed to President Putin to spare the lives of Ukrainian war criminals now surrounded by Russian forces! Washington’s infamous double standards persist under Trump. Even more, I’ll wager that among the trapped Ukrainians are plenty of guys from the U.S. and Europe.

Ukrainian attacks against Russian civilians in Donbas and other frontline regions occur daily, made possible thanks to U.S. military intel, recon drones, and Elon Musk’s Starlink. In addition, Kiev has also stepped-up long-range drone attacks, targeting residential buildings across Russia, even in Moscow and its suburbs.

This is a deliberate campaign of terrorism aimed at Russia’s civilian population, to try to break their resolve, and it’s financed and orchestrated by western governments. These are war crimes, and western media (not surprisingly) remain silent. Instead, they hurl the same accusations at Russia (as is often their tactic).

This is a deliberate campaign of terrorism aimed at Russia’s civilian population, to try to break their resolve, and it’s financed and orchestrated by western governments.

Last week, the Russian Foreign Ministry released data for Ukrainian terrorist attacks since early 2022. Over 6,000 Russian civilians have been killed, and over 13,000 injured in Donbas, Zaporozhe, Kherson, Kursk and Belgorod regions. About two-thirds were victims of NATO/Ukrainian artillery and HIMARS rocket systems. The remaining one-third were attacked by drones.

Take Gorlovka in Donbas, for example, located a dozen kilometres from the front, since 2014 artillery fire has been continuous, and Ukrainian drones fly over the city constantly, except in bad weather.

Gorlovka had more than 240,000 inhabitants before the war. Today, few remain, usually those too poor or infirm to leave, as well as those determined to resist Kiev’s aggression. Ukrainian shelling has left the city without electricity and water.

Russian civilians murdered in Kursk by Ukrainian death squads

“We are afraid, but we go on living,” says Lilia, a 35-year-old Gorlovka resident who is raising an 11-year-old daughter. “Our children used to go out to the playground, now they study at home. We have lived in this hell since 2014.”

It’s important to emphasize that Kiev considers the civilians in Donbas to be Ukrainian citizens, yet it has bombed and terrorized them since 2014. (The Foreign Ministry data above does not include the 10,000 to 14,000 civilians killed in Kiev’s brutal effort to ethnically cleanse Donbas since 2014).

I’ve spent months investigating these terrorist attacks, talking to people in the impacted regions, and viewing photos and videos. The extent of Ukrainian crimes is horrifying, the evidence overwhelming. For more information, please view this telegram channel, Verum, dedicated to information on Kiev’s war crimes.

Yes, Russia speaks the truth, and of course that makes the West squirm. But whenever the Kremlin mentions such war crimes to western governments and media, the answer is always the same: “We don’t believe you; this is Russian propaganda”.

With those three ‘magic’ words — “It’s Russian propaganda” — all truthful reporting and information is easily suppressed by the U.S. and Europe. The simplicity of this deception is chilling. The ramifications are tremendous. Thus, the western world lives in a false reality, and its leaders are hostages to their own lies and propaganda.

Over the past month, I had hoped that Donald Trump would make good on his promise to be a peacemaker. But to achieve peace, Trump first must publicly admit the truth and repent of America’s crimes.

The conflict in Ukraine is entirely a U.S.-conceived and managed project. Until Trump totally repudiates Biden’s policies and terminates all assistance to Kiev, he cannot be a peacemaker. America is a belligerent in this conflict.

Trump lies to the American people. He has access to full information that details the horror of life in Ukraine — jailing and executions of anyone deemed to be “pro-Russian”; state-sponsored kidnappings of men to be sent to the front; total suppression of all dissent — no free media, no free speech, no political opposition; and state policies to destroy the Orthodox Church, Ukraine’s main faith.

If Trump truly wants peace between Russia and Ukraine, then he must tell Americans the truth and full story: Why did this conflict start? Who started it? And the genuine nature of the regime in Kiev.

Trump Must Immediately End Support for Ukraine

Under Zelensky, Ukraine is a totalitarian state that stamped out all freedom, and where terrorism is a weapon and war the goal. Zelensky brought the world to the edge of nuclear war. He must go.

Putin and Trump in Osaka, Japan in 2019

Trump’s crushing defeat of Joe Biden and the Democratic Party has been a huge setback for the liberal-globalist effort to build a new totalitarian order. I’d like to celebrate Trump for this, but it’s still too early. Policy towards Ukraine will be the ultimate test of Trump’s sincerity.

Ukraine is the pet project of liberal-globalist forces and their allies in the Deep State. Trump must remove Zelensky from power and dismantle his regime. Zelensky has stamped out every basic human freedom — he wages war on the Orthodox Church, shut down opposition media and political parties, jails and murders critics, represses ethnic minorities, ordered the mass kidnapping of young men to fight his unpopular war against Russia, and shoots men on sight for trying to escape the country.

This past week, news of more Ukrainian war crimes became known. Frontline American journalist Patrick Lancaster posted videos that show basements full of massacred civilians found in liberated villages in Russia’s Kursk region. The bodies had signs of torture and brutal executions. All of this paid for with our taxpayer dollars. Does Trump endorse such crimes? He hasn’t condemned them.

If Trump continues support for Zelensky this will be the clearest signal that he has made some sort of deal with the Deep State that he claims to be fighting. And as I write these words, reports are coming in that Trump will support Zelensky.

To add insult to injury, during his inaugural address Trump made the audacious claim that he is God’s chosen one to make America great again. I won’t speak for God, but His ‘chosen one’ should be able to discern the evil nature of the Ukrainian regime, and should be willing to mete out divine judgment upon it.

The Russian people will have to continue to fight to defend their country and people from Western aggression. Either Russia continues to fight, or it will cease to exist.

Instead, yesterday, Trump lashed out at President Vladimir Putin, falsely claiming that he “is destroying Russia”. In fact, Putin is doing what any responsible leader must do — protect his people from incessant Ukrainian/NATO terrorist attacks and attempts at ethnic cleansing.

Trump isn’t an expert on Russia; he knows little about the country. He has no right to express an opinion. His information about Russia comes from dishonest, incompetent sources such as the CIA and major media. Trump’s comment about Putin was disrespectful and counterproductive. The Russian president will only become more recalcitrant and ardent in defending his country.

Trump said he wants to go down in history as a peacemaker, yet he lacks a basic understanding of the issues in the Ukraine-Russia war since he is fed false information. Unable to formulate intelligent and accurate opinions, Trump won’t be able to conclude peace with Russia.

While many Russians would like for “life to return to normal”, they need to abandon such hopes. The West crossed the proverbial Rubicon in spring 2022 when it ordered Zelensky to fight Russia to the bitter end. The goal of the West remains — to accomplish what the Nazis couldn’t, the destruction of Russia and the conquest and pillage of its lands.

International law is clear — Russia has a legal right to protect the people of Donbas and the other regions that voted to secede from Ukraine and join Russia. Centuries of international relations are clear — there should be buffer zones between great powers. Ukraine must be neutral. This is in the interests of European and global security.

The Russian people will have to continue to fight to defend their country and people from Western aggression. Either Russia continues to fight, or it will cease to exist.

And we Americans should also shed any illusions about Trump and Vance. No matter who is in power, the spirit of American supremacy and empire remains firmly entrenched in the mindset of our ruling class, both liberal and conservative.

Donald Trump is a pathological liar and narcissist. He has no plans to become a peacemaker. Like Joe Biden, Donald Trump is also leading us down the path to World War 3. He must come to his senses, or he must be stopped.

When an Immoral Nation Votes, Don't Expect Change
Across the globe, the U.S. Govt proves itself the main source of strife, war, repression and genocide. No election can change this. The system is predatory; citizens indifferent and immoral.

Recently, Donald Trump said he’ll issue an ultimatum to Moscow to remove its troops from ethnic Russian regions that were arbitrarily given to the Ukraine Soviet Republic by the Bolsheviks over a century ago. How ironic that Donald Trump, in effect, sanctions the actions of communist revolutionaries.

A person’s attitude towards Russia and Zelensky’s brutal regime are a litmus test — Do you stand for human rights, justice and civilization; or do you stand for ethnic cleansing, totalitarian rule, and the suppression of basic human rights?

I was hoping to see leadership and backbone from Trump on this matter. But he has shown none. He has caved to the ‘Deep State’ that he claims to fight against. The usually outspoken Trump suddenly goes timid on the topic of Russia, afraid to say anything to upset the status quo promoted by the U.S. foreign policy elite.

A man who is fighting the ‘Deep State’ does not shake hands with one of its protégés, the brutal butcher and dictator Vladimir Zelensky. A genuine leader speaks the truth, even when it’s not easy and potentially costly. Russia is not our enemy. Period. Russia is the enemy of globalist oligarchs who Trump claims to be fighting against. So why is it so difficult for him to call for peace with Russia?

Trump deferential to Zelensky. Does not look good for humanity.

Do you recall that nauseous feeling whenever you hear about a school shooting in America? Small and teenage children picked off and murdered in cold blood by a crazed shooter — nothing could be more sickening. Right?

That moral anguish, however, disappears when it comes to bombing and massacring children in the Middle East and Russia; when young men dodging the draft are hunted down and shot by Zelensky’s regime; when Orthodox Christian churches are closed, burned and bombed, and the priests beaten and jailed, also in Ukraine. All these crimes committed in the past year, paid for by American taxpayers, yet few among us care.

Wherever there is war, mass slaughter and repression, you’ll often find the U.S. government fueling the fires. Meanwhile, our corporate media justify the bloodshed as a necessary price to “defend democracy.” Sadly, none of this is new; it’s consistently been the case for 125 years, ever since we conquered the Philippines, massacring about 400,000 civilians who resisted our invasion.

I just returned from three weeks in Japan, and visited the Tokyo Raid Memorial, which commemorates the day in March 1945 when in the course of an hour the U.S. incinerated over 100,000 civilians as part of a deliberate terror bombing campaign. That raid is history’s single worst case of mass murder in a single day.

Whoever wins the presidential race, the loser will be the human race. Neither candidate stands for a moral U.S. foreign policy based on mutual respect of national interests and human rights.

I also visited Hiroshima. One can’t fully understand the horror of the nuclear bomb until you visit. No amount of reading or viewing of video/photos can fully convey the evil of dropping the nuclear bomb on innocent civilians. Remember, Japan never attacked the U.S.; it attacked a naval base that was on territory (Hawaii) illegally occupied by the U.S. since 1898. So what right did the U.S. have to justify massacring millions of Japanese in revenge?

Nothing is more “American” than bombings and mass murder. Don’t deny it. It’s in our DNA. “Wipe Iran off the face of the earth”. “Nuke ‘em”. “Bomb them back to the Stone Age”. No other nation speaks like that in regard to others; but these phrases are common American parlance when discussing foreign affairs, revealing what an immoral nation we are: One Nation Certainly Not Under God.

How can any sane and moral person utter such militaristic phrases unaware of the amount of suffering and misery to which others are condemned for the ‘crime’ of not submitting to the U.S. imperial steamroller. We seem to have no moral qualms when our government commits mass murder abroad, as long as it’s in the name of promoting ‘democracy’ and ‘freedom’.

Conclusion — dress up war and mass murder in beautiful words and noble intentions, and Americans will find it acceptable.

As the world’s leading global power, foreign policy should be the issue that determines presidential elections. But it is not. Most Americans are more worried about the price of gasoline, which for the past two months has suspiciously hovered at record lows in order to boost the fortunes of the incumbent Democrats.

Understanding U.S. foreign policy is very simple. We only need to ask the question: Is the U.S. fostering peace and order, or is it destabilizing the globe? Events of the past 35 years (or past 200 years) are very clear — the U.S. government, and the oligarchs who control it, have repeatedly proven themselves to be the greatest threat to the global order.

I’ll never forget that day in summer 1990 when the U.S. began beating the drums of war against Iraq. It was the end of an era. From 1975 to 1990, the post-Vietnam era, the U.S. was a relatively peaceful nation that avoided major conflicts, even negotiating an end to the nuclear arms race with the USSR. It was a time when one was proud to be an American.

Evil never sleeps, however. Having lost the USSR as the bugbear to justify their war-mongering, U.S. militarists set their sights on the Middle East. And so began 35 years of war that has led to millions of deaths and tens of millions more left homeless.

The predator class that controls the U.S. can’t be restrained. No legislation nor institution exists that can bring them to justice for their many crimes. Has a single state official or oligarch ever been prosecuted for the brutal, illegal wars and genocides of the past 35 years? Not one.

Fast forward to today — another grueling presidential election campaign is set to conclude, and the American people must choose between two candidates that justify empire and all its heinous consequences — brutal proxy wars, genocide of unruly populations, and even nuclear war.

Kamala Harris openly promises more war against Russia and mass murder in the Middle East. As I said above, Trump will also pursue a similar foreign policy. In effect, there’s little difference between the two candidates. Trump even admitted to the Wall Street Journal that he is “crazy” and this is apparently good because it means that other nations fear him.

Trump won’t scale back the empire. He is obsessed with American “greatness”, which means that the U.S. will continue to destabilize the international order, enhancing our status as a pariah nation. (Yes, most of the world hates us).

Whoever wins the presidential race, the loser will be the human race. Neither candidate stands for a moral U.S. foreign policy based on mutual respect of national interests and human rights. Both candidates want a world where the U.S. is the apex predator, taking what it wants, when it wants and brutally punishing those who resist.

Is this really the country we want to live in? Is this a country to be proud of? Certainly no moral, sane and decent person would ever answer “Yes”.

In 1821, veteran diplomat and future U.S. president John Quincy Adams warned not to get involved in foreign conflicts “in search of monsters to destroy”, by which he meant to avoid getting involved in wars abroad where we imagine ourselves to be the “good guys” on a noble crusade to save the world.

In searching for monsters to destroy, the U.S. has itself become the monster and greatest threat to the global order. Unless the U.S. returns to the original principles of its Founding Fathers, then this nation is doomed to face the wrath of God for its wickedness. Just don’t be surprised if and when that day comes.

Beyond War Profiteering -- the U.S. is Now an Official Sponsor of Terrorism

Even though well aware of Kiev's glorification of Nazi butchers and its current terrorist activities, Congress still voted for $61 billion to support Zelensky's despotic regime.

Ukrainian military cemeteries proliferate. These burial grounds now accommodate the innocent, the foolish, and the fanatically misguided. And each grave has someone who mourns over their departure.

“For the wages of sin is death” — Romans 6:23

As a ten-year old growing up during the Cold War, I remember my father (a government worker) trying to justify why the U.S. welcomed thousands of Nazi war criminals after 1945. The Machiavellian rationale was that the USSR was now the main threat and we had to embrace the Nazis in order to defeat Moscow.

I trusted my father, and anyway, cynical self-interest is not difficult to grasp when you’re 10 years old. As I grew up and acquired a sense of morality, I realized that nothing can justify cooperation with the minions of the Nazi Reich.

Unfortunately, many today in the U.S. government have not grown beyond the mentality of a ten-year old. More than two years into the Russian-Ukrainian War, the truth about the regime in Kiev is well known to the U.S. Government and Pentagon. Yet, they remain staunch supporters of Zelensky.

They’re well aware that Kiev openly glorifies Nazi collaborators, such as Ukrainian national ‘heroes’ Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevych, whose Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army butchered tens of thousands of Jews, Poles and Russians during World War 2.

The U.S. Government knows very well that Ukraine has no freedom of speech, no free press, no right to assembly, no freedom of religion, no freedom of travel, and that the regime is hellbent on ethnically cleansing Donbass and Crimea of its native Russian population. They also know that over the past 15 years Moscow has done everything possible to strike a deal to avoid war over Ukraine.

Finally, American officials are well aware that Ukraine is a leading terrorist state — often targeting civilians in Russian cities with artillery and missile fire; as well as assassinating journalists; and masterminding the attack on the Crocus City concert venue in Moscow in late March.

More than two years into the Russian-Ukrainian War, the truth about the regime in Kiev is well known to the U.S. Government and Pentagon. Yet, they remain staunch supporters of Zelensky.

Sure, the U.S. intel community disseminates disinformation to justify Biden’s war against Russia, falsely claiming that the Kremlin plans to attack Europe and threatens American national security. That’s the distraction to mislead the general public.

We live in a very different America than the one we grew up in. Biden’s White House has led our country down a dark and sinister path. Today, the U.S. is the main sponsor of Ukrainian terrorism. I do not say this lightly and I say it with much regret. These are not mere policy mistakes by a demented president. Our ruling class willingly embraces all that is hideous, heinous and unholy.

And so, I never had any doubt that Congress would approve Biden’s $61 billion for Zelensky’s regime. While 112 Republican Congressmen heroically resisted and voted against the aid, some 101 Republicans voted in favor. I wonder — were those 101 blackmailed or bribed, or might they be true believers in the globalist cause?

Ukrainian Nazis celebrate their ‘hero’ — Hitler’s ally Stepan Bandera (Jan 2, 2016)

As far as the Democrats, just look at the video below. Absolutely sickening. They put the interests of Ukraine’s corrupt ruling class far ahead of the American people. These are truly America’s darkest days.

Support for Zelensky’s regime is more than just insatiable greed and addiction to war, however. Many times before in the past, the U.S. has supported despotic regimes. But never have we supported an overtly Nazi-inspired regime such as Kiev. This is why Biden’s foreign policy is so shocking to those of us who dream of a day when the U.S. might possibly be a positive force in international relations.

And so, we must face a very difficult question. We need to discuss whether the spirit of Nazism reigns in Washington, as well as London and Brussels. When we welcomed thousands of zealous Nazis to our shores in 1945-46, to what extent did their spirit and ethos permeate and infect our political establishment?

SIDEBAR
Editor's Note: This is more than just disgraceful. It is criminal. But it is also par for the course at the US Congress. After all, they do not represent the wishes, priorities and needs of the American people.

House passes critical aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan along with a TikTok ban

The bills amount to a $95 billion aid package in total.

WASHINGTON — The House on Saturday passed a $95 billion package that includes two long-awaited bills with $60.8 billion of aid for Ukraine and $26 billion in aid for Israel and relief for Gaza.

The Ukraine bill, which passed 311-112 with one present, will head to the Senate alongside the Israel aid bill and two others — one with aid for Taiwan and another that would force TikTok's parent company to sell the platform.

Lawmakers waved Ukrainian flags and cheered upon the Ukraine bill's passage. Voting in favor were 101 Republicans and 210 Democrats, while Rep. Dan Meuser, R-Pa., voted present. All 112 votes against it came from Republicans.

The Israel bill passed 366-58, with 193 Republicans and 173 Democrats voting in favor.
(SOURCE: NBC News)

Will this new aid package change the situation on the battlefield? Probably not much. First, experts have pointed out that the majority of the $61 billion will line the pockets of major American corporations and Biden’s cronies.

Besides that, however, the fact is that the Russian military is now far too strong and determined. Russian soldiers understand that their country once again faces an existential threat from the West, as with Napoleon’s invasion of Russia in 1812 and Hitler’s in 1941.

The heroism of Russian soldiers is impressive. The ability of their officers to adapt and innovate has confounded U.S. generals. The dedication of Russia’s defense industries to supply the front is stunning. (Remember spring and summer 2022 when NATO officials told us that Russia would soon run out of weapons?)

Still, the new U.S. aid should not be underestimated — it will be heavy on tactical ballistic missile systems, such as HIMARS and ATACMS that have a range of up to 180 miles. The Pentagon’s strategy aims to inflict maximum destruction on key Russian military and civilian infrastructure, such as the Crimean Bridge; as well as continue terrorist attacks against civilians in marketplaces and at family events.

The liberal globalist war machine is the heir to Nazi Germany, and Ukraine is the battering ram to strike at Russia. An alliance of almost 50 countries marches on Russia. It has a collective population of over 1 billion people and about 35% of global GDP. Against this onslaught, Russia stands firm with its population of 145 million, though also with strong support from most of Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

The Russian soldiers hold the line because they are well aware that if the U.S. triumphs then millions of Russian citizens in Donbass and Crimea will be exterminated and/or forced off their land in brutal ethnic cleansing. Biden’s White House continues the work of Hitler, but the result will be the same as in 1945. Russia will be victorious. Ukraine will be liberated from the globalist Reich.

Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Why is this lesson so difficult for our ruling class to comprehend? They’ll have to learn the hard way.

Things to keep in mind...

Neo-Nazi ideology has become one of the main protagonists of political and social life in Ukraine since the 2014 coup d'état. Meanwhile, fascist ideology and blatant lies also permeate the consciousness of most people in the West. Those in the comfortable top 10%, the "PMCs" (Professional Managerial Class), are especially vulnerable. They support and disseminate such ideas. They are the executors of the actual ruling class' orders, those in the 0.001%, who remain largely invisible. The PMCs are the political class, the media whores, the top military brass, some people in academia, and the "national security/foreign policy" industry honchos. Push back against these unethical, contaminated people with the truth while you can.

AND...where the US Government is at:

Our Warped Reality: Losing Friends to Disinformation

The West's decade-long disinformation and hate campaign against Russia has poisoned the minds of many. Here's my private correspondence with a supporter of NATO policy toward Russia.

Since the start of Covid in March 2020, thousands of researchers, journalists, scholars, scientists, nurses, doctors, and human rights activists who stood for integrity, facts and honest research have faced enormous censorship, persecution, vilification and ostracism. Intellectually speaking, the Western world is now in a digital Dark Ages.

Ironically, the Information Age is marked by widespread ignorance. This is because an avalanche of information has overwhelmed people, who find it easier to outsource their thoughts and opinions to major media companies, which unfortunately are characterized by a noxious cocktail of incompetence and dishonesty.

With near total control of major media companies, the ruling class can easily fabricate any narrative and then coerce society to embrace and perpetuate those lies with a veneer of legitimacy. (“But the New York Times says…”) Intellectual integrity is dead, and dissent is punished.

Punishment comes in the form of a destroyed career and loss of social status. That threat is sufficient to make many fall into line. I’ve seen friends in the media support the official narrative because they’re afraid to lose their jobs. I understand why. After journalism, one’s career prospects are very limited; poverty is almost guaranteed.

What’s most shocking and perplexing, however, are those colleagues who don’t merely remain silent, but rather, vigorously join in the persecution of dissenters. I suspect this is because we are reminders of their own cowardice and betrayal.

And so it transpired last week that an old journalist friend reached out to me. His goal was to shame me for being skeptical of Big Brother’s narrative on Russia. Even though I have a university degree in the study of Russia and Ukraine, as well as 30 years work experience with both countries, my research and opinions make him uneasy.

I thought long and hard about doing this, and then decided to do it. Below you’ll find our correspondence. I take privacy very seriously and always protect the identity of my sources and companions. So, to protect his privacy, let’s call him “S”.

He is a British journalist, but lives in Switzerland. He is educated and has visited Russia many times in the past 20 years and was always given a warm welcome. He is a militant liberal and I suspect that’s one main reason why he hates modern Russia, which increasingly promotes conservative and religious values.

Most disturbingly, his hatred is so strong that he wishes Russia would be destroyed, which would condemn millions of people to death and misery. Indeed, such hatred and violence is the true face and essence of modern western liberalism.

Dear John

Thanks for your reply on facebook. Glad things are good with you!

I'm still in Switzerland, looking after my son and writing a book on cricket, plus doing some writing/editing for [name deleted].

Putin's War has destroyed the Russian art market. My wife's mother lives in Russia, but there are no longer flights between Moscow and Geneva, getting visas is extremely difficult, and transferring money impossible. Do you still have contact with Russia? I've given up contacting people there. Everything's surveilled and everyone's scared to death of being caught speaking the truth. I hope it will all end with Putin's death and, hopefully, the disintegration of a perpetually self-aggrandizing country that is really only a souped-up Muscovy. I haven't been back since 2019 and no prospect/intention of doing so before regime change.

Please let me know if you ever come to Switzerland. You're always welcome to stay the night with us!

Cheers

Dear S…,

Good to be back in contact. I'm pretty much done with Facebook, and only check messages once a week or so, or occasionally publish my weekly energy column that focuses on Asia. As you know, energy and climate issues are contentious, also full of much distortion and disinformation. Wading through mounds of information is tedious but exciting, because, as we are all aware (though often oblivious to), Energy is the foundation of global civilization; not Art, as many of our former colleagues might believe. 🙂

My ex-wife and our son have left Russia; now here in the USA. We only have a granny left back in Komi.

I had to double-check the date on your email -- you sound like a circa 1983 right-ring Reagan supporter. 🙂

As far as what's really happening in the world -- well, there's (more than) a few things you (and anyone) don't know about me. I grew up in a U.S. Govt family and I was raised and educated to hate Russia, and then to eventually work for a certain 'letter' agency. (In fact, a number of my relatives still work there). But then in 1991 we "won" the Cold War and I had no job, so I made my way to the country I was trained for and became a journalist. Everything truly proceeded as you knew me; I didn't have a 'secret' mission. First, I became a business correspondent, and then in 2003 I became art correspondent simply because it was an opportunity and it seemed 'fun'. During those years, no one in Washington took much interest in Russia, because, as you know, the focus was on the Middle East. When I returned to the USA in summer 2014, I noticed that things had turned sinister among those people I knew -- (some refer to them as the "Deep State"). They were now gunning for Russia. I spent 2014 to 2022 working mostly with Ukraine, and I heard, learned and saw many troubling things. Such as sitting in a pub with U.S. military 'advisors' in Kiev in May 2019, and hearing about their plans for Donbass. In short, I knew it was a recipe for a war with Russia... Yet, I believed and hoped that our leadership wouldn't do it and would give Moscow the one thing it wanted -- "don't expand NATO into Ukraine". Had we done that, there'd be no "Russian invasion". Everyone in the government community knows this is true; but they lie (once again), and tell the world that it's because "Putin hates freedom and democracy". Our guys are using the same strategies toward Russia that they used for their brutal wars against Iraq and Syria. For them, War is a Racket -- as some top American generals have said on their deathbed. I know, it's not easy to fully understand this for those of you who are outside the System. But for those of us in the System, it's all very clear what's really happening. The difference with me is that I actually have pangs of guilt and a sense of morality (thanks to my pious Italian grandmother).

Well, I hope these divergent views of the world won't interfere with our friendship. The 4 million year old human race might soon be nothing but a memory. Not much time is left, so, there's no point in feuding. I've always valued your friendship, appreciated your sharp wit, attention to detail and critical eye. I only ask that you apply that same level of criticism to what our government and media are force-feeding us today. Perhaps if enough of us take a stand, then just perhaps we can stop the march to perdition.

warm wishes

John

Dear John

Many thanks for the kind remarks and the Reagan comparison which, as a committed centrist (with anarchist leanings), rather amused me. At least Reagan had the gumption and moral compass to call out Russia’s evil empire and hasten its (temporary) demise.

Finding you an intelligent and decent-minded fellow, I’ve always been a little disconcerted by what I perceive as your indiscriminate advocacy on behalf of the Motherland. So I was being a bit provocative – to draw you out, as it were. Many thanks for your thought-provoking comments.

Unlike you, I was not brought up to hate Russia but to treat Russian culture with respect – as a teenager reading Tolstoy, Lermontov et al, listening to Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich, studying Russian to a decent level at school. We had a wonderful Russian teacher – English but married to a Russian –  who transmitted both a love of Russian culture and hatred of Soviet Russia, which few right- and certainly no centre-minded people would disagree with.

I started going to Russia in 2004 to report on art and returned over 30 times before my last trip in 2019. I was struck by the dichotomy between the open-minded, generous and erudite people I came across in far larger numbers than one would in the west, on the one hand, and the stifling lack of freedom on the other. The art world was a little freer than society at large, but it soon started getting cracked down on, initially through the agency of the Putin-grovellin’ Orthodox Church. There were two things I didn’t like about Russians: their rabid nationalism/chauvinism (very similar to Americans’), and an utter inability to accept criticism in any form, which I suspect derives from an inherent national inferiority complex. When I get criticized, I weigh up the criticism and decide whether (a) it is well-intended or malicious and (b) it contains anything I can usefully appropriate. Criticize a Russian (or Russia) and all you ever get back is the comment ‘What About You (or The West/Your Country)?’

The art market was dealt a first blow in 2008 when Putin invaded Georgia, a ‘test run’ for future aggression to see how far the West would react (mildly). There was no big change in mood in Russia that I could detect after 2008, but there certainly was after the annexation of Crimea in 2014. I was in Moscow shortly afterwards to be bombarded by gloating NASH KRIM posters on every street corner and to come across a newfangled ‘Eurasia’ concept that basically meant Putin/Russia turning their back on the West.

Russia has no more right to Crimea than the U.K. does to the Falkland Islands. Ukraine certainly does have a right to Crimea: Russia gave it to it in 1954, and signed a Treaty guaranteeing Ukraine’s borders in 1993. Having said that, if anyone has a ‘right’ to Crimea (a ‘country’ having a ‘right’ to an area of land is a ludicrous concept, but then so are countries) it is the Tartars. I’d like to see Crimea independent under Tartar rule.

Russia invaded Crimea in 1783, for no other reason than imperial greed and Potyomkin’s desire to flatter Catherine II. Just as Russia invaded (clockwise) Siberia, Central Asia, the Caucausus, Bessarabia, Poland (several times), the whole of eastern Europe, the Baltic States and Finland… and now Ukraine – an independent state with the sovereign right to apply to whatever international organization it pleases, whether or not this ‘offends’ a neighbouring state that already occupies one-sixth of the world’s land surface (with which it does fuck all to benefit its own citizens, oligarchs aside).

Politics being about reality as well as idealism – though idealism should come first wherever/to whatever degree possible – if I had been running Ukraine I would have let Russia have the Donbas and Lugansk (did you know Zarya Voroshilovgrad were Russian soccer champions in 1972?) for three reasons: the region is full of outdated heavy industry that is an economic drain on the country to which it belongs; the region is predominantly ethnic Russian; the inhabitants will always therefore be more likely vote for a Kremlin stooge than someone keen to foster ties with Europe. No Ukrainian leader could, however, ever contemplate waving goodbye to the region after Putin’s invasion of 2014, still less after his invasion of 2022.

As for your criticism of ‘our guys’ – their hypocrisy, their approach to war as ‘a Racket’ – yeah, sure, no problems with that. But (a) the point is irrelevant as regards Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and (b) you’re sounding like a Russian: ‘don’t criticize me, look at yourself.’ I am no fan whatsoever of the U.S. (or the U.K.), but they’re sure as hell better than Putin’s Russia. I am a fan of the E.U., and I hope Ukraine will shortly be part of it. I am reasonably pro-NATO, though disgusted by its pussy-footing response to the invasion of Ukraine, and I hope Ukraine will very soon be part of it, too. I hope that, once Putin has gone the way of Hitler, Russia will also be part of NATO and the E.U. Come to think of it, if Russia were part of the E.U. you probably wouldn’t need NATO any more.

As a journalist, I naturally believe NOTHING that is put out by media or governments.

Cheers

Dear S…,

All good points and I was on board with what you wrote until the moment when the right-wing Ukrainian nationalists who seized power in Kiev began bombing the ethnic Russians of Donbass and the massacre in Odessa. That's when I said, "I'm out", and I began to part ways with many Ukrainian friends who turned out to be apologists for bloodthirsty thugs and murderers. Sorry, I just don't have an appetite for mass murder. I wonder why you see that as "indiscriminate advocacy for the Motherland". I think it's basic human decency.

I find it rather odd that you are sympathetic to the far-right nationalist regime in Kiev; they are the equivalent of Trump supporters on steroids. Are you aware that they glorify World War II-era Nazi collaborators? The BBC doesn't tell you that, does it? Well, I can tell you lots about it, because I've been to the sites where the Ukrainian Nazis slaughtered thousands, and my mother's Polish family was among the victims. (Are you now going to dismiss this as "Russian propaganda"? Yes, yes, I know, every inconvenient truth and fact is "Russian propaganda".)

As far as Crimea, well, that's Geopolitics 101, and I gather that you've never been to Crimea because your comparison with the Falklands is rather empty, if not lacking in intellectual integrity (because I know you know better). Every powerful empire has the right to, and will fight to secure key regions near its borders. Just like the US will never allow any other power to meddle in Mexico, so Russia shouldn't tolerate NATO meddling in Ukraine, which is the second largest and militarily powerful country in Europe.

Or, let me put it another way -- if you want to ignite World War 3, then Yes, NATO should meddle in Ukraine.

Please look closely at your family and then ask yourself this question -- Are Crimea and Donbass worth World War 3 and possibly a nuclear war?

Well, no point in debating this further, because the matter is being decided on the battlefield, and Russia is winning; Ukraine is on its last legs. Ukrainians don't want to fight any more, especially not for Zelensky's corrupt, repressive regime. Do you know what's really happening inside Ukraine? I gather you don't; but I do, and it's a brutal, lawless, repressive regime. Again, after I left Russia, I worked with Ukraine extensively, including with the diaspora here in the USA. These are very sick and scary people. These are people who openly say that Hitler was a good guy because he fought the Russians. Are you fine with that?

The irony is that in January 2022, Russia was weak, but now we have a truly angry and increasingly powerful Bear. The Pentagon and CIA are in a panic. They never realized that Russia had all this hidden industrial might and natural resources to quickly rebuild its military capabilities. Imagine that! You see, they had been fed disinformation that "Russia is a giant with feet of clay" and "Upper Volta with rockets", etc... well, this is what happens when our intelligence agencies believe their own disinformation and propaganda, and are staffed by bumbling incompetents who only care about career advancement and tell the higher-ups what they want to hear; not what the facts are.

After Putin is done with Ukraine, there's not much stopping him from reaching the English Channel -- he can go around the Poles, as the Hungarians and Slovaks will open the door; and the Czechs, Germans, Italians and French won't want to fight and will surrender very quickly... Meanwhile, the 25 million Muslim residents of Europe will welcome the Russians with open arms and join the fight against the modern-day western crusaders...

So do think about your future. Your knowledge of Russian will prove useful; maybe you can get a position as deputy governor for culture and sport of the future Genevskaya Oblast? Please don't see this as mischievous thoughts.... In 1812, not a single Frenchman could imagine that by 1814 the Russians would occupy Paris. And in 1941, not a single German could imagine that just 4 years later the Soviets would occupy Berlin.

We certainly live in fascinating times!

best wishes

John

John,

Russia is winning ? increasingly powerful ? having planned to overrun Kiev inside 72 hours ?

You really are a bonkers Putin apologist, John.

I had hoped that I was mistaken in thinking that, alas not.

cheers,

November 22

S… ,

News flash -- the Ukrainian counteroffensive is a total failure; for nearly 6 months now, the Russians have (every day) torched the best that NATO/ Ukraine could throw at them. Hundreds of NATO vehicles destroyed, and well over 100,000 Ukrainian men forced into a meat grinder, only to be ripped to pieces by Russian artillery, tanks, aviation, mines and machine guns. All because NATO bosses want to expand eastward, and Ukrainian oligarchs are paid billions to go along with it.

I'm surprised that you treat these horrors so lightly. When did you make the shift to the far-right?

"Putin apologist" -- I didn't expect you to stoop so low. Such a silly accusation only reveals a lack of intellectual integrity, and that your false and untenable beliefs have dug you into a corner. It's fine; I understand.

My advice -- keep your focus on cricket. Geopolitics is clearly not your forte.

best wishes

John

Neo-Nazi ideology has become one of the main protagonists of political and social life in Ukraine since the 2014 coup d'état. And that's a fact.

About Us

Kitty studious philosopherTHE GREANVILLE POST (TGP) is an antidote to and refuge from the ubiquitous brainwash long afflicting most people in the United States and the rest of the collective West. TGP is an independent, (barely) reader-supported, non-dogmatic publication dedicated to seeking the truth wherever it may be found. Thus, we publish voices from any point in the political spectrum, left, right, up, down, except shitlibs, professional disinformers, media whores, and demagogues of the extreme right. TGP is already heavily shadowbanned; it could be gone tomorrow. That’s the lousy, uber-hypocritical times we inhabit, so read it while you can, and do pass its carefully selected articles to others: friends, kin and workmates. Incidentally, if you can send a donation, do so. For obvious reasons, we do not operate behind a paywall. Defeating the Big Lie is too important and urgent to subject the truth to the test of wallet power.
