JOHNSTONE—Western media put all the blame for everything on the Serbs, evoking the inevitable Hitler analogy to describe Serbia’s besieged leader, Slobodan Milosevic, as a “dictator” and to liken his failing efforts to keep Yugoslavia together with the Third Reich’s massive invasion of the rest of Europe.
“Heroic little Serbia” was transformed into the Pariah of the Western World.

GARY OLSON—Most Americans remain unaware that President Barack Obama initiated the war in Ukraine in February, 2014 with the Euromaidan Coup in Kiev. Those with an ounce of integrity who followed subsequent events, understand that every Russian entreaty for peace was ignored and that Russia’s red line was crossed when the US opened the door for Ukraine to join NATO. Politically, Putin has no choice but to intervene. This is the critical missing context every time the official mantra “Russia invaded Ukraine” is incessantly repeated in the mainstream media.
EDITOR—Emil excoriates the “Western system” of democracy wherein only elections acceptable to Washington are allowed to stand, while the rest are declared null and void, branded as “polluted” by Russian meddling and a host of other technical judicial imperfections. This political fraud is now being seen throughout the US empire—from Europe to Asia—and it now includes the homeland of the US Hegemon itself. The latest cases involve Romania and Georgia, both highly strategic lands in Moscow’s “near Russia” periphery.
CHRIS HEDGES—Carter gave Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, although he ruled under martial law, billions in military aid. He armed the Mujahideen in Afghanistan after the Soviet intervention in 1979, a decision that cost the U.S. $3 billion, saw the deaths of 1.5 million Afghans and led to the creation of the Taliban and Al Qaeda. The blowback from this Carter policy alone is catastrophic.
He backed the South Korean military in 1980 when it laid siege to the city of Gwangju, where protestors had formed a militia, which led to the massacre of some 2,000 people.
Finally, he sold out the Palestinians when he negotiated a separate peace deal, known as the Camp David Accords, in 1979 between Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin.
