Dispatches from
STEPHEN LENDMAN
His revolutionary, man-of-the-people rhetoric is empty, his soul for sale at the right price. He’s more demagogic rabble rouser than straight talk public servant. So why is he popular among Americans? It’s not because of his deplorable voting record, supporting undemocratic Democrat policies 98% of the time.
.
They include backing imperial wars, NATO’s killing machine, Israeli apartheid, and the Wall Street-owned Federal Reserve. Support for Hillary Clinton showed what he really stands for – all of the above plus monied interests over popular ones, war-profiteering, neoliberal harshness, TPP and other regressive trade deals, assault on fundamental freedoms, along with shameless Russia and Iran bashing.
Grateful for small favors (even imaginary ones in the case of sheepdog Sanders) and largely politically clueless, masses of Americans thirsting for real change continue to believe Sanders is or could be a tribune of the people. His selling them out at the end, despite proof Hillary had conspired with DNC officials to torpedo progressive agendas in the Democratic party, and his frequently demonstrated political cowardice, should have been the wake up call, but few have walked away from this pathetic charlatan.
Did his demagogic rhetoric or agenda as voters perceive it make him popular? Likely some of both, proving you can fool many people enough of the time to gain strong support. His unprincipled hypocrisy, duplicity, dishonor and moral cowardice defines his political record – from his Burlington, VT mayoral days to the House, Senate and presidential bid. He was a stealth Hillary supporter all along, proved by endorsing her, a neocon war criminal, racketeer, perjurer – polar opposite what he claims to stand for, disgracing himself beyond redemption.
.
Backing her supports America’s dark side – a rogue state responsible for more harm to more people over a longer duration than any other country now or earlier. Sanders is unprincipled, morally and ethically tainted, a loyal servant of powerful interests running America. It’s why he was allowed to run for president, not to win, to create the illusion of Democrats supporting ordinary people – not since the neoliberal 90s began destroying New Deal, Fair Deal, Great Society programs.
.
And yet a March Fox News poll showed his popularity among registered voters at 61%, only 32% expressing disapproval. It proves most Americans are out-of-touch, uninformed, and easily deceived. Sanders warrants condemnation, not strong support. America needs revolutionary change, a true people’s champion leading it, not a phony one like Sanders.

Where’s the evidence precisely that Sanders backed or was in favor of “TPP and other regressive trade deals”?
This article comes on a bit too strong. Sanders is an idealist who backed Clinton strategically after he’d lost the primary, to prevent Trump from winning, not because he supports her views or policies (since clearly, if you listen to his speeches, he does not). He mixes idealism with pragmatism. That is far from being a sell-out. I don’t agree with all that he stands for, but he is absolutely above reproach on most issues. The one thing I wish he had not done is back down to the aggressive BLM people at one of those rallies. And stand up… Read more »
