Pepe Escobar (born 1954) is a Brazilian journalist works who writes a column, The Roving Eye, for Asia Times Online and is a commentator on Russia’s RT and Iran’s Press TV. He writes regularly for Russia’s Sputnik News, and previously wrote many opinion pieces for Al Jazeera.[1] Escobar has focused on Central Asia, Russia the Middle East, and Iran since the late 1990s. Escobar has reported extensively from Afghanistan.[citation needed] In August 2000, Escobar and two other journalists were arrested by the Taliban, and accused of photographing a soccer match.
